Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 11/17

Yesterday I had my granddaughter here and just did Jane Adams Morning energy yoga and You Tube Jessica Smith dynamic stretch along with some PT and rolling. This was 45 minutes and 75 calories. Both the yoga and stretch were more active.
Today I did Jessica Smith Build Balance and Inner Strength: Balance and Agility with the band, 30 minutes, heart rate average 111 max 144, met 5.0, 166 calories, 1039 steps. I then did Jane Adams 7 day yoga desk work, met 2.0, 19 minutes, 32 calories. Total time was 64 minutes, 198 calories.

This morning I did X Train Burn Sets, Chest, Back, and Shoulders. My time was 61 minutes with 268 calories burned. Average heart rate was 111 and maximum heart rate was 156. The November rotation had Pure Strength scheduled, but I don’t have that one. I really enjoyed Burn Sets, which I hadn’t done in over 3 years.

Valerie, great job with Cardio Supersets. I like that one. Burn Sets might be a good upper body workout for you to try for variety.

Diane Sue, Jessica’s workouts are great for adding balance to your movements. I haven’t done that Jane Adams’ Relief from Desk and Computer Work practice. I have thought that it would be good for neck and shoulders.

Deb, I hope that you are managing to get in a little activity during your jury duty time. Sitting all day is hard on the lower body.

Hello to Judy and Lori.

Hi Everyone,

It was so cold this weekend! A little warmer today. Hopefully no snow this week.

Today I did Basic Step, 4 DS Lower Body and Walk Strong Deep Stretch.

Deb-I hope jury duty is going well for you.

Carolyn-Great job with Burn Sets! That is a good one.

Valerie-Nice job with Cardio Supersets! That's another one that I really like. Awesome that you added on the push ups.

Diane Sue-Great job with Balance and Agility! I need to do that one soon. I love Jessica's balance work.

Hi to Lori!

Judy

I like Burn Sets too. I am pleased that even with all the plank and push up moves in cardio supersets, I could easily get in the knee push ups at the end, and of course the Ab section. I don't get as full a range of motion as I would like on toe push ups, I used to go down further, but I still worry about the unknown cause of shoulder pain. knee push ups I get bigger range of motion at less risk.

toe push ups are much harder I wonder is there an "equivalence" between work effort for the two moves. is 1 toe push up worth 10 knee push ups?
once again I forgot about the sit/rise test. it was hard to do the workout yesterday. I should not take two days off in a row, its hard to get motivated.

did a 40 min spin, then 25 knee push ups, and the Abs from Flex train.

I get a great workout spinning but cant increase speed standing. surges, sprints, standing I have one speed..... a cadence of 60 to 67 but averaging 63. sitting, I get up to cadence of 95 to 100. Judy and diane sue? doesn't matter much how much resistance, that is the speed. just wondering...

This morning I did ICE Rock’m Sock’m Kickboxing plus Icy Core 1. That was 58 minutes and 404 calories burned. My average heart rate was 132 and maximum heart rate was 170.

I just came back from purchasing a new washer and dryer and a new wall oven. All of our appliances are going out at the same time. I didn’t want to take a chance on the oven completely dying in the middle of holiday cooking.

Valerie, great job with spinning, abs, and those push ups. I usually start a set of push ups on my toes, then go to my knees. Of course, some days they are all knee push ups.

Diane Sue, I hope that you are doing well.

Hello to Deb, Judy and Lori.

I am behind with check ins. Yesterday I did Low Max and Lite stretch #1. Today I am resting because I am not feeling well. I was supposed to go to ladies game day, but did not want to make someone else sick.

Valerie, I never like doing push ups, but I usually have no problem doing them. I keep trying the standing up from the floor. I can't find a way to get fully up without something touching the floor besides just my feet. That is good your sister's dog got better. I think it is hard to tell exactly what is wrong with the dogs unless there is a definitive test. My other dog had something going on once. I attributed it to a urinary tract infection. The vet told me it was old age and she had some incontinence. He gave me some pills and said she would probably have to stay on them. I gave her lots of water and did the pills for a couple of weeks. The problem stopped completely. It usually happened when she was sleeping in her crate. I would end up hosing it out and cleaning the bedding.

Carolyn, I always felt like Burn Sets should have a higher calorie burn than it does. I always put so much work into it. The desk work is a good one for neck and even back. Most of it is sitting in a chair, but she does stand too. The only part I don't care for is massaging the cheeks, temples, and forehead. I like the sets by the water and the woods. I thought it was funny on the energy one when the camera hits her foot and there is an ant or something crawling on her. She didn't seem to react though

Judy, I hope the snow passes you by. I am not a fan of the cold. It has warmed up nicely today. It won't last long though. I really like balance work.

Deb, thinking of you and Jury duty.

I did ice chiseled upper body I’m doing the sit to rise using a step topper. Much easier if you are two inches off the ground and not crossing your legs. Think I can do it without the step topper now that I “get”the motion.
hiking tomorrow.

Good morning,

Very busy with jury duty and other stuff going on. Not to mention trying to shop and organize for Thanksgiving. Only 3 more days of jury duty, including today. :). I have to say though, that I am enjoying the content, and learning what actually happens before a person is indicted for a crime.

Diane Sue, nice workouts. They are great to complement the PT that you are doing. Hope you are feeling better today.

Carolyn, good job on the workouts.. Smart move getting the oven replaced before the holidays.

Valerie, kudos for doing those push ups when you really did not want to . Great idea to use the step topper to start the "sit-to-stand" move initially.

Hi to Judy & Lori,

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did a 30 minute Peloton ride after work. I'm off work today and have hair and chiropractic appointments this afternoon. I did something to my upper back, on my right side and it's really bothering me
:( I think it's the start of a repetitive strain injury from all the lifting of boxes and pulling forward of products on shelves at HD. If that is what this is, I won't be able to keep working there, as I'm not going to be in constant pain and unable to do the things I enjoy. Christmas season is worse than garden season for lifting and stocking shelves.

Deb- That's great that you only have 3 days of jury duty left. I bet it is interesting.

Valerie-I can't get my cadence over 60-70 when standing or using very heavy resistance. I can get it up to 100+ sitting and using lower to moderate resistance. On the climb ride yesterday my average cadence was 66. There was a lot of standing and high resistance. Other rides, my average cadence is usually around 70-80.

Diane Sue-Great workouts! I hope you feel better. There are a lot of things going around. Chris and I have had scratchy throats this week.

Carolyn-Nice workout! Good that you are replacing your oven before the holidays.

Hi to Lori!

Judy

This morning I did JS Steady, Ready, Go. That was 31 minutes and 235 calories burned. My average heart rate was 133 and maximum heart rate was 156.

Deb, three more days of jury duty is great. I’m sure that the process is very interesting.

Judy, the back pain is an unfortunate side effect of your part time job. I hope that it’s nothing serious. You certainly don’t want continuing issues that might limit your normal activities.

Diane Sue, I hope that you are feeling better today. That’s funny that you mention the ant in that Jane Adams practice. I always notice it and I want her to do something about it!

Valerie, great job with Chiseled Upper Body. Good for you for continuing to work on the sit and rise.

Hello to Lori. Have a wonderful day everyone.

Today I did Kelly Coffey Strong and Lean Dvd no shoulders premix and added the bonus extension, 30 minutes, heart rate 108 average, 142 max, met 5.0, 132 calories, 906 steps. I then did Kelly's Your Healthy back using the Raw channel since she has the 30 min to fitness workouts there. This was 32 minutes(not sure why it was labeled 42) met 3.5, 93 calories, 337 steps, heart rate average 100, max 141. I have been wanting to do this and kept thinking of purchasing. It is exercises for strengthening mainly lower back and hips. There is ab work in it as well. Total time was 62 minutes, calories burned 225, 1,245 steps.

Strong and Lean uses one set barbell, one set dumbbells, and one set tubing. I used a 25# barbells, 12 and 10# dumbbells, and med (15# b-lines tubing) high reps
biceps-curls barbell, hammer curls/alternating hammer curls dumbbells, alternating tubing curls
back- overhand rows barbell, plie position rows dumbbells, standing reverse flies tubing
lower body- squats barbell, side to side lunge dumbbells, side to side steps tubing
triceps-barbell dips off of step, skull crusher dumbbells, seated triceps extensions tubing,
chest- bench press barbell, single arm fly alternating dumbbell, seated fly/peck dec tubing
extended moves were barbell bridges off of step, knee pulls, 1 dumbbell sit ups reaching overhead, lying feet tap on floor to reverse curl up with feet

I will be back to respond to posts. I am running late and have to go out for a bit.

Back from our hike, 4 and a half hours plus drive time. it was nice but some form of ice most of the way. not real slippery but not like walking on dry ground either. a pretty day, clear and cold. we started with quite a bit of snow a month ago, and it has diminished to patchy until above treeline. sounds like this weekend it will get replaced so might be the last few "mountain" terrain hikes.

Deb, I thought the process was interesting too but I was glad I was released after two days. bet you will be glad to be done.
I will get the sit to rise thing. it was easier with a small step, not crossing my ankles, and on a yoga mat barefoot. shoes get in the way. there is a technique, use momentum to go forward to get "over" your feet.
Judy that is reassuring... I was thinking there was something wrong with me because when cathe does a surge, I am already at max speed. if I'm at 63 I can maybe briefly get to 67, but mostly that is as fast as my legs go standing. resistance doesn't matter much. I have one speed standing, even with almost no resistance that's as fast as my legs go. a wide range of speeds sitting. Hope your shoulder settles down

Lori hope you are reading the thread even if you can't post.

Valerie, good idea using the step topper for sit and stand. I will have to try that. That was a nice long hike.

Deb, the JS workouts really are a compliment to PT. Having grand jury during the start of holidays sure makes it rough. I am sure you will be happy when it is over.

Judy, I hope the chiropractic treatment helps. I know I never really thought about stocking shelves and boxes till I was looking at Sprouts job qualifications when they first opened. It had requirements for being able to lift so many pounds. If I remember right it was up to 50. I had the scratchy throat, but started feeling much worse with watery eyes and sneezing. I started running a fever, but it broke last night. I felt much better this morning. I took extra C, astragalus, and some Mediterranean oregano oil. It seemed to help.

Carolyn, I really like all 3 of those have fun Jessica Smith workouts. Nice work. I keep thinking that I would be shaking the bug off of my foot despite filming a workout. It is kind of funny though. I guess the ant or whatever it was did a photo bomb:)

This morning I did X Train Legs for 51 minutes and 232 calories burned. My average heart rate was 112 and maximum heart rate was 145. The floor work gets me every time!

I’m trying to decide on a Thanksgiving menu for a very small group. It was just going to be the two of us and I knew what I wanted to cook. Now my nephew is joining us, so I need to rethink a couple of dishes. My children will not be here this year and most of my siblings are doing a family destination gathering. I do not enjoy that type of holiday.

Hello to everyone and have a great day.

This morning I did Cathe Lite Cardio Party mix that is the main workout + the Calorie Crush, 55 minutes, heart rate average 148, max 180, 5,369 steps, 389 calories, met 8.0. I then did Lite Bonus Abs #1, 10 minutes, 35 calories, 66 steps, heart rate 101 average, 128 max, met 4.0. Total time was 65 minutes, 424 calories, 5,435 steps. I also did Sarah Beth Yoga Beginner Neck stretches 10 minutes, foam rolling and PT work. I tried to get another Neck stretch and it kept taking me to something else. I am going to get on my laptop and put the ones I want in my watch list. I am going to leave soon for my granddaughter's play at school.

Carolyn, I would not enjoy that type of holiday either. We are having our Christmas family celebration on a different day than Christmas. As the family grows and the grandchildren (one married with other family) and have jobs we have had to set another day for all to be able to be here. It will be an after work family Christmas. Thanksgiving we managed to get it set for everyone here.

We are running out of family to celebrate with. cousin and wife are here this year for the last time, they are moving to Phx. not sure what we'll do in the future. I don't think I'd enjoy a destination holiday. I don't care for big group get togethers, and they would not pick a place I'd like to go to.
I did a load of shopping today, most of the supplies for next week. so taking the day off exercise today. will mt bike tomorrow. will go to a state park we like to ride at, if traffic isn't too bad.

Today I did Low Max, a timesaver premix, for 46 minutes and 339 calories burned. My average heart rate was 133 and maximum heart rate was 153. I did intervals 1-4.

Diane Sue, great job with Cardio Party + Calorie Crush and Bonus Abs. I’ve looked at Sarah Beth yoga, but never really clicked with her. You are right about celebrations changing as families grow. It’s usually a big family gathering, but the family members change depending on other obligations.

Valerie, I’ve been doing some holiday shopping a little at a time, but today I bought a turkey and other pantry staples. I will get fresh vegetables next week.

Hello to Deb, Judy, and Lori.
