Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 11/15

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Physique 57--the 57 min. workout.

Joan, that radiation treatment sounds like torture of some kind. Your poor mom! That's not good news about the mono. Students frequently contract mono and they often have to drop out of school in order because they cannot keep up with the work.

Just a couple days, Deb, and then you can relax for a bit--although there's always Thanksgiving preparations. Are you hosting this year? Only our younger son will be with us this year, so it's just a day off and good food. I'm going to make Ina Garten's pumpkin roulade for dessert this year and a couple sweet potato pies for DH, who likes them for breakfast.

Sounds like winter closing in on you Valerie. Today is high 50s again--very pleasant. What are your Thanksgiving plans?

Hi to Josie and Cathy!

Hi Ladies,

It is a Kevin wo today and some kind of cardio for 30 minutes. I need to go to the market and by all of the ingredients for my pies and the mac and cheese. I also have to go to Toys R Us to buy my grand kids their birthday presents. I hate going to that store.

I'm looking forward to next week, but I have so much work to do before then.

Have a great day ladies!

Josie

Hi ladies,

No, Elliot isn't a girl's name but I don't think there have been a lot of boys named Elliot in the last 10 years so maybe they will start a trend. Ds and dil call her Ellie. I call her Elliot. If they didn't want her called that they shouldn't have named her Elliot.

I don't want to give you the wrong impression of radiation. The radiation itself is painless. It just hurt to hold her arm above her head. As soon as they get the new position recorded on the computer and the body holder made it will be a lot easier.

Today I did Low Max-premix 1. Second day of diet, only 1200 calories eaten.

Joan

TGIF!

Good Morning,

Still in the "no workout" mode. I had another terrible nights sleep. Around 1:30, DH was snoring so badly, I woke him up and he went downstairs with Keegan. Then about an hour later Kelsey woke up and had to go out so I got up and took her out....sheesh......

Valerie, wow you are sure active with outside stuff. I didn;t realize how cold it got in the Northwest, I guess I always think of Seattle area as warm...Do you get snow where you are? My SIL says if they even get a dusting of snow there everything closes down. The dog in my avatar is Keegan, he is a one year old, Kelsey is 14.

Garance, yes I am having 20 people this year for Thanksgiving, a lot less than last year, but just as much work. What is pumpkin roulade? it sounds interesting....I may google it.

Josie, are you having Thanksgiving at your house. You mentioned mac & cheese, one of my favorite foods. Is that for the birthday or for Thanksgiving? I have to get a gift for a Giving Tree thing we do at work. The girl ( 9 year old) wants something I never heard of so I will be going to Toys r Us too. Also hate that store especially this time of year.

Joan, good job on the workout and eating! I can't believe the time you post.

Have a good day, and fun weekend!

Every winter is different... sometimes no snow at all, but 08-09 we had a LOT of snow. at least 6 feet fell where I live, with periods of melting so it never piled up that high. In the mountains (varies depending where and how high) 50-100 feet will fall in a season. the temps are fairly mild here and we go thru a lot of freeze/ thaw cycles that compact and settle the snow. when we get snow (down where most people live) it's often right around freezing where it's very heavy and slippery. Lots of hills too. plus, people never get real geared up and learn how to drive in it, and we don't have lots of plows and sand/salt operations because sometimes there'll be years without any. average fall/winter conditions here are cloudy, 40 degrees and drizzling.

Yeah, I love outdoor stuff... this was the worst year I've ever had because of the surgery and I still managed to get out a bit. Managed to get in time on the stationary bike and Muscle Max yesterday. I love that workout.

More later, gotta make dh's lunch & breakfast.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Amy Bento's Cardio Kickbox Surge, the premix of the combos without the surges (62 min.).

Deb, the pumpkin roulade is a cake that you roll up with a creamy filling. It's in her Back to Basics cookbook, which I absolutely love. I'm glad I don't have such a big crowd to cook for on Thanksgiving. It does not sound restful for you, but maybe the company brings enough side dishes to ease the workload? We are not even going to have turkey for the three of us. Standing rib roast, mashed potatoes and I have to decide what to do for side dishes.

Valerie, what are your plans for Thanksgiving? Hosting or guesting?

Joan, I am always fascinated by the popularity of certain women's names with certain classes. One year it was a bumper crop of Madisons. Awhile ago, I had just about every other woman in class named Heather. For awhile now it's been Kaitlin this and Caitlin that and Kaytlin every now and then in between. Had one Brooklin a year ago. Lots of Amys. Sara or Sarah is a perennial favorite, as is Ruth. The men's names seem more classic and unchanging--Christopher, Jacob, Nicholas, Kevin, Michael, Mark, Luke. I think I will be retired before a crop of Elliots.

Hi to Josie and Cathy!

Have a great weekend!

to finish what I was saying, I've driven in lots of places and IMO when it snows here we have some of the worst driving conditions. partly because few are prepared, road maintenance is spotty, and temps hovering right around freezing tend to be more slippery than , say, at 15 degrees. think freezing rain and you'll know what I mean. and it's not flat! steep hills here are closed with barricades when it snows. plus many businesses & schools too because buses can't manage the hills.

Joan, one of my best friend has a grandson named elliot. he had some health issues as a newborn ( doing fine) , but I heard a lot about him for a while, sort of reinforced my idea that was a boy's name. I'm fond of names that don't have real heavy masculine or feminine overttones. elliot/ellie is nice.

Deb, wow, 20 for dinner and you're not stressed/worried? I've only done maybe 8 max and that was plenty. I don't have supplies to handle many at once. DH and I have small, spread out families so we've never had the experience of that many people at once. sometimes we're luck to get anyone.
also DH and I have had sleep problems. I keep the guest room ready to go and sleep in there if we are waking each other up. DH is a doc, gets calls at night so he needs to have a phone and once I get awakened a couple times, my night is done for. we just bought a king bed to minimize territory wars. It's hard to feel like doing anything if you don't get a decent nights sleep, and after several nights of interrupted sleep you're a zombie! also after my surgery I found it hard to sleep on my left side (which I favored) and we started bashing into each other. so hopefully a king bed will help. there is a LOT more room. don't know if that's an option for you.

Hi ladies,

I was so exhausted today I went to bed at 7:00pm and just woke up. I'm still tired but not sleepy. But do I feel like working out?

I can't get into the nutrition site so I don't know how many calories I have eaten but I know it's higher than the 1200 of the last two days.

Thanksgiving and Christmas always is at my house. I don't know why. We have 12 at Thanksgiving and 18 at Christmas. At Christmas there are 5 extra staying at my house for a week usually.

Garance Since dil is a teacher she didn't want a name that a dozen other kids had for her child. I think Claire and Lily were on the original list with Elliot.

Deb Wishing you a good nights sleep.

Joan

Saturday

Good Morning,

DH and I went out for breakfast, then I have Keegan's agility class in about an hour.

Lots of HouseMax today and before Thursday, getting things ready for company. I don't know about the rest of you but my house is not "company ready" like some people.

Valerie, it's funny how people are so different. If I never did outdoor stuff I would not miss it at all. I like sitting outside in the summer, but that's about it. I don't think a bigger bed would help, its his snoring that keeps me awake some nights.

Garance, everyone that comes to dinner on Thanksgiving brings something. It has become a tradition, everyone brings the same things, and we all expect it now. My cousin who makes the stuffing went to Florida for Thanksgiving last year, but still made the stuffing for me and got it to me before she left. We would have been really upset had she gone and not done that first....that's what I mean about tradition.

Cathy, good job on the workouts, and yes, there is a GrandkidsMax workout.

Josie, what are you up to? bike riding?

Joan, does your dil help out for the holidays?

Have a good weekend!
