Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 11/14

I think I have High Step Training too, but somehow never used it much. I bought a high step. use it a lot... never bought a "regular" step. dislike reg step workouts.

Did disk #10 yesterday, and my pushup performance is improving. still plenty of room for progress.

We are home for most of the weekend. DH is on call. usually not too bad, but I sleep in the guest room so if we get too many calls it's easier to go back to sleep for both of us.

Lynda, found the CR washing machine reviews. there are 2 pages of them, one for front loaders, the other for top loaders with and without a center agitator. the #3 rated is a whirlpool Duet steam. several other whirlpool duet steam and sport models listed . samsung and electrolux are #1 and 2. the kenmore shows up in #39. If you have a model in mind I can tell you how it rated.

Getting cold here this weekend. we haven't had a freeze yet but that's about to end. actually might get some snow down low. we may be able to xc ski on monday, or snowshoe. several of the big downhill areas are opening this weekend. wow. all of a sudden it's winter.

anyone hear from Joan? Hope all is OK there.

Hi Ladies,

Woke up with a stomach ache and have gone to the restroom 4 times, 3 before I left the house for work. I think that it was what I ate at lunch yesterday. I half of a quesadilla with chicken and I think that the cheese made me sick. I did my weight training yesterday and 30 minutes of cardio. No workout for me today.

I will be run/walking with a friend tomorrow morning and maybe going to a hard core class at the gym. I also have to do all my Thanksgiving shopping tomorrow.

Valerie, I also hope that everything is ok with Joan.

I will be back later.

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Barefoot Cardio (48 min.).

Valerie, I think it's 9250X and not the Scout. It's the biggest front loader by Whirlpool, so I can put queen-sized quilts in it, which I am really excited about. (Maybe "excited" is too strong a word, or I'm just getting old and easily excited.) Sounds like you are very sensible about all of your trekking. I only hear about the dummies who appear after harrowing adventures that should not have happened on the Today show. People are now being asked to pay for costly rescue missions. I also read about some family that kept calling for helicopter rescue and then telling the helicopter pilot that they had solved the problems they were having. The third time, the helicopter crew insisted on bringing them back.

This weekend we are going out to dinner again at Mezze's. DH loves the chef, and I must say, we end up having a very long, relaxing evening there. I am also going to see The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest.

I think Joan has another thread for over 50 and may have deserted us.

Have a great weekend everyone! I'm whipping out my Ina Garten for pumpkin roulade and her version of dressing with figs and cranberries.

I do NOT want to see my face on the 6 o'clock news, being dragged /carried out of the backcountry by SAR for doing something stupid. How totally embarrassing. we are careful but things can go wrong, and have gone wrong in the past when we weren't as careful.... young and stupid, actually. we tend toward over-prepared now. we get pretty ticked when people call for unnecessary rescues. I think fines are appropriate and overdue.

The 9250 is #20 in the ranks. rates "good" on washing ability and noise. middle of the ratings. the highest, the Duet 9700 steam was #3 with a 'very good" for both categories. It's also listed at $1300.
the spread is not very wide from top ranked 84 and the lowest 71. Prices go all over, without being consistently linked to better performance. there were also a duet 9150 and A Duet Steam 9550 in between.
most of the time the model numbers in the ratings are not available or are very slight differences between models that account for different #'s. there are some LG, GE, Maytags in there too. I check their ratings but don't always follow them. the $1300 Asko is right up there on price but ranks the lowest of 43 tested.

Saturday

Morning all,

Just getting ready to go to class with the "class clown", in a bit. John wants to come and watch today, this could be really good, or a real disaster. Went to a fund raiser for the YWCA branch here that helps women against domestic violence. It was a wine tasting, live and silent auction, and dinner. Good time with my cousin and some friends. Although most of them were political types, I tried to ignore the politics talk.

Josie, hope you are feeling better.

Valerie, you and your DH seem to be very smart and level headed when it comes to your hiking, riding etc. I get really ticked off when people do something stupid, have to be rescued and the tax payers foot the bill. They should charge the people.

Garance, have a nice dinner! I heard that those steam washer & dryers are not all that they are cracked up to be. Like I mentioned, I have had a whirlpool for 15 years, and it is still chugging along nicely. Not a front loader though.

Off to get ready for class...

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning was Housemax, and very much needed extra time in the kitchen. Also took Maxie for a long walk because DH is at a local farmer's market selling his meat, and Maxie likes to romp vigorously before his afternoon nap.

So Keegan is the class clown, Deb? Sounds like a worthy cause, since I read domestic violence is on the rise because of the economy. Frustrations of not being able to get a job and support one's family.

Watching Bound this afternoon for my class next week. I like easy Saturday afternoons after cleaning all morning. Gosh it's cold here, too. Going down to the 20s tonight and very windy today.

Thanks, Valerie, for the info on the Whirlpool. We are buying it, including shipping, for 700 dollars from United Appliance. DH bought several freezers from them and likes their prices. Part of the reason we are getting this one is that our Appliance Doctor recommended it, and he's been right about our appliance purchases in the past.

Hope you are feeling better, Josie!

Sorry I've been missing in action.

I had tax seminars in Il last week. I just drive over each day but it's quite a distance and went to bed early each night. REALLY early for me - 9pm.
It's a good thing I went because there is so much new info. They will also pass a tax bill before the end of the year. If congress would ask me:p I would ban all tax bills after Sept. 1. Amazingly enough they never ask me.

I had dh babysit.

No Thanksgiving this year YEA!!!!! My son and dil will take family to her grandparents in MN this year. I told brother and his family I was skipping Thanksgiving this year. I will only cook a little for us. I really want to get below 160 before Christmas.

I have not missed a day of Walk it Out on Wii. Today was 4.5 miles. I have also pretty much kept up on STS meso 3. This is the 3rd first week. I keep doing it over with a little heavier weight each time. Monday I may go to week 2.

I have good luck with orchids. I have heard you use ice cubes but I just water a little every other week. They really don't need that much water.
Joan
