Good afternoon!

Today I started week 3 of the Couch to 5K workouts.

I finally had a chance to sit down and so something relaxing. I have been up since 6:00 doing stuff around here, working out, then going to the co-op, Office Depot, finishing a spreadsheet for John for the budget meeting he has to go to at the dog club today. Just made the cranberry bars with fresh cranberries, they could be good or really, really bad.

Do dogs become senile? I was carrying a load of clothes to go to the basement, and I turn around in the kitchen and there's Kelsey squatting and peeing like she was outside somewhere...did not even ask to go out!! I swear she is losing it or something. She does drink an awful lot of water.
I really should get in the yard and put the summer stuff away, sigh...I just don't feel like it.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did High Step Training (63 min.).

Deb, I'm sure dogs, too, can get senile. How old is Lady Kelsey?

Went out last night, and as usual, the chef kept sending us little tidbits of things we had not ordered, so I ended up bringing most of my ribeye steak home. My older son sent me a beautiful orchid plant for my birthday. I'm not sure how to keep it happy. It says to mist it once a day and water once a week, so I will see what happens. My younger son showed up this weekend too, but seemed irate because of no washing machine. We will have to wait for the Appliance Doctor's diagnosis on Tuesday.

Beautiful weather here for a change in November. Too bad I have to stay in and grade papers. Soooo looking forward to retirement.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Good morning all,

no workout, a bad dog night again. DH and I have decided that we need to walk them before going to bed. I think they sleep too much in the evening, then are restless and decide they need to go out.

Garance, Kelsey is 15. I have 2 orchid plants that did really well, bloomed when they should etc, until we got air conditioning. Neither has had a bloom since.

Have a good day!

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Jazzercise Dancin' Abs (60 min.). I still really like this one. No dread factor, great music, and a solid intermediate workout for me.

Deb, sounds like a good plan. When Max goes out in the evening, he does his business, runs wildly around for awhile, wants to play frisbee until he's panting, goes in, asks for a treat and a pet, and gets in his crate and flops for the night. Wear them out. Reminds me of my youngest when he was a baby. He would go to sleep at 7 but wake up at 4, so DH started getting him up for about an hour before we went to bed. Seemed to work, because he started sleeping until 6:30, a more civilized wake-up time.

I was really good yesterday and finished grading all but two of my papers, so I will be able to finish this set today. I just had my teeth cleaned. I swear she's a sadist. She uses some kind of machine that removes plaque faster than the old-fashioned scraper, but it uses tons of water so that I constantly feel like I'm gagging. She does an excellent job, so I don't complain, but the other thing she does is to lean me back so far that when it's time to stand up, I really have to slow down because I'm dizzy.

Have a good one!

Hi Ladies,

I had a great long weekend with the grandkids. They were my work out for the weekend.
My DD and I are going out to dinner and a movie tonight so no wo.

Garance, for your orchid, just put 3 to 4 ice cubes once per week and that will take care of it. They like ice water.

I have to get my shopping done for Thanksgiving. The whole family is coming over. I can't believe the year is almost over.

Well, back to work. Hi to Joan, Cathy and Valerie.

Josie

Tuesday

Good morning ladies,

Today I did MM upper body pre-mix. Just enough to get a good workout, but not grueling. Sometimes I forget the oldie but goodies.

DH and I walked the dogs last night around 8:30, and had a peaceful night without having to get up for one or the other. I did wake up almost every hour though, for no reason.. At 4:20, I just gave up and got up to work out.

Garance, are these the last papers for this semester? I like when the hygenist does a thorough job, he knows he better cause he has to listen to it all the rest of the day if he doesn't!;)

Josie, I never knew that about orchids, I should try reviving mine with ice water. Maybe they need repotting? the roots are coming out of the sides of the containers..

Cathy, did GK #4 arrive yet?

Joan, how is your mom and MIL doing? any more remodeling going on?

Valerie, are you out on a hiking trip?

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Ultimate Cardio Barre (55 min.).

Josie, thanks for the advice on the orchid. I thought they liked heat and humidity, and now it turns out they like ice! Who knew?

Deb, I still have 4 more sets of papers--two sets for each class.

According to the Appliance Doctor, we could still use the washing machine with the broken bearing until it dies. Even the noise might go away now that the broken piece is out. Gives us time to look around for a good deal. He recommends a Whirlpool large size front loader. We had a Gibson at his rec and it's lasted for 22 years, but apparently Gibson has been taken over by someone and they are no longer so good. I adore the Appliance Doctor. He does house calls for everything and does not charge an arm and a leg.

How is everyone out there? Joan? Cathy? Valerie?

Hump Day

Good Morning all!

Today I did the C25K treadmill workout, second workout of week 3. It sure gets tough, this is the longest I have stuck with this though.

<< I love this little guy! This is how I feel sometimes in the morning...

Garance, I have heard some bad reviews on the front loader washers, I don't remember what they said, because I was not really looking into them. I would check it out first. It's great when you have a repair person you can call on that you trust. There is a plumbing place here that we use for any type plumbing issue, they even came on a Sunday once when my kitchen sink was plugged, and I had about 10 people coming to dinner.

Rainy and cold here, **sighs** I guess fall/winter has arrived, as much as I am in denial, it's happening.

What is everyone doing for Thanksgiving?

Take care,

MACYN JOY STEWART arrived at 4:24 am, Nov. 15, 2010.

9lb. 3oz. 22" long.

so, have been very busy. hope to be back soon to check-in.

Hi Ladies,

I did not workout last night, I got lazy. Tonight I will be going out with my girl friends for dinner and drinks.

Cathy, Congratulations! She is a big baby, so you need to work on your back muscles.

Deb, I will be having about 25-30 people over for Thanksgiving. The good thing is that it's mostly my family and everyone brings something.

Hi to Joan, Valerie& Garance.

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Zumba Live (55 min.).

Hey Cathy, your new granddaughter shares my birthday, Nov. 15. She's definitely a big one!

Deb, we loved our front loader Gibson and never had any trouble with it. What we have read, heard is that the large Whirlpool front loader is okay, but the smaller one has problems with mold.

We will just be three for Thanksgiving. DH, younger son, and me. In-laws are in Florida, Idaho, and Vermont and older son is in California.

Cold and rainy here as well. I am off this afternoon to get some highlights, much-needed since it's been 3 months.

I'm back! Had an interesting few days. Did disk 9 on saturday. went to an obligatory party sat night. loads of people, didn't know anyone and they all seemed to know each other so we didn't stay long.
went to eastern WA to mt bike on sunday. was raining monday so didn't plan to stay all day but probably the last trip this year. the pass closes when the snow builds up and won't open til april. interestingly we were the only people in the campground and when we headed for the hwy in the morning, a tree had fallen across the road. Luckily it was the top 20 feet of the tree and we were able to push/pull and roll it off the road enough to escape. No cell service there, so if it had been a big tree we could have had trouble getting out. Monday night we had one heck of a storm, and power, phone and internet service just came back on an hour ago. somehow I wasn't ready for winter weather yet. I went to yoga anyway but the wind blew out a big window scattering glass everywhere so classes were cancelled for the day.

cathy congrats on being a grandma again. that is a big baby.

Lynda, I haven't found the CR article but it was in Feb 10 issue. the only bad thing I've heard about front loaders is the presumed stinky door seal issue. otherwise they are more energy efficient, use less soap and water and are easier on clothes.... I'm trying to talk myself into getting a front loader next time.

for turkey day, this is the first time I won't be hosting in some form or other. cousins are hosting because of driving issues for an elderly aunt. she can't make the trip here anymore so we will go there. so I just need to make pie, easiest I've ever had it.

Also found out FIL will (probably) not have surgery for his kidney cancer. He's not a great risk and the surgeons aren't hot on doing the procedure. he may have to live with it for as long as it takes. he has a lot else wrong and it doesn't take a doctor to see he's not a good risk for surgery.

well, happy b/day, lynda!
yes, she was big, her daddy, my son, was 9lbs. and 23". and he was my first child, and only after his birth,:). and , i am way smaller than my dil. but, she did have a pretty hard delivery this time. the first 3 just kinda fell out, but this one was hard.
i'm glad she is here.
i did finally get a w/out in today. 30m of lower body/30m of cardio (the firm calorie killer 2)

Good morning,

Another restless night, and no workout this morning. Oh well, tomorrow is another day. I hope they start shipping the new DVD's out today, I could really use something new to maybe get me motivated again.

Cathy, Congratulations!! Are you getting those new Tracey Long DVD's? Someone posted clips here the other day and I thought of you. They look tough.

Josie, same here on the family, everyone brings something, it's setting up the house that is the work.

Garance, Happy Belated Birthday! sorry for being late. With a front loader, once it starts you can't open it to add stuff or anything right? what are the pros to the front loader vs the top loader?

Valerie, you were pretty lucky with that tree in the road. Sorry to hear about your FiL.. My MIL had breast cancer diagnosed when she was 85, and they did not do anything, said other things would be what she died from and they were right.

Joan, let us know how you are.

Take care,

yeah, i lookeda t them yesterday, they look really tough!! i probably will get them. i love tracie:)

Morning all.

Deb, that's my main reason for not having a top loader. I use the machine like a giant wash tub. I do down jackets/bags by agitating without running a cycle. I'm famous for finding a couple things to add after the cycle has started. can't do that with a front loader.
Yes, lucky with the tree. DH and I are good at moving trees, but big ones, well, no way without a chain saw. this is the land of big trees! we have a tow rope but don't carry a chain saw all the time. they are stinky and dirty. If we couldn't move the tree we would have had to ride our bikes to the hwy, and flagged down someone or ridden to a resort near there with a phone. cell service is not available for probably another 5-10 miles, depending. and then we'd have to wait while someone got recruited for the job. so glad we could move it!. and it's snowing like crazy so unless the weather changes, that was the last trip there for the season.

FIL is like that, lots of things wrong and the surgeons aren't thrilled with his chances.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Squeeze (57 min.).

Deb, front loaders don't use as much water or detergent. I also think our Gibson did a lot better job than our top-loading Kenmore. I always do my down parka in the machine and it turns out great. No, you shouldn't open the door if there is water in there for a wash or rinse cycle, but you can do it if you just press the button in and stop the machine. I have managed to sneak in some extra stuff from time to time without a lot of water coming out.

Wow, Valerie, you were lucky on that tree! Do you ever tell anyone where you have gone and for how long? I mean--just in case, so someone might know if something goes wrong?

Cathy, I will have to take a look at the Tracie Long clips and see if there is anything there for me. I'm trying to systematically pull out some of my old dvds instead of buying more new ones--like the High Step Training, which, it turns out, is pretty good with modifications for me. Felt like a new dvd because I had not done it in so long. I really like Cathe's appearance and attitude in that one, too.

Back to work here.

We didn't tell anyone since it was a last minute decision to go, and isn't isolated. it's a public campground right off the north cascades hwy in the center of the park, and the road to the campground is only 1.5 miles from the hwy. we could have gotten help if it came to that, just a matter of getting someone to stop. much less traffic since it's after tourist season. we carry a tow rope and if we couldn't roll the tree we could have maybe pulled it with the truck. worked out well, considering.
When we go places in the winter we take a chainsaw and tools. they stink and are a reason for someone to break in.... lost one chain saw that way. I leave contact info with several people when we do anything isolated or far from home. we always carry extra clothes, water etc.

Actually, FIL may die from the kidney cancer but he has a pretty good chance of not making it thru the surgery to remove the kidney too, so no "right" answer here. he has a raft of other unfixable things wrong.

I did 20 on the bike and 30 on the treadmill yesterday. today, disk 10 and maybe some light cardio along with it.

Friday!

Good morning,

Another night of interupted sleep, at least I am on vacation next week and hopefully can catch up on sleep.

Cathy, those workouts are really different, I always like Tracie too.

Garance, High Step Training...an oldie for sure. Our Whirlpool washer is one of those extra large capacity ones, I put a lot of throws, dog pillows, blankets etc in it. We have had it for about 15 years and nothing has gone wrong with it yet....*** crosses fingers***

Valerie, I still think you and your DH are amazing with the stuff you do.

any exciting plans for the weekend?
