Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 11/13

Hi Ladies,

I will be spinning tonight. I just made my shopping list for Thanksgiving and will probably go to the market tomorrow after work. I will be going to Fresno to pick up my peanuts and will not have the energy to do it after a long ride.

I will be having a little birthday party for both of them on Sunday and am hopping that it does not rain, Alex turned 4 on Monday and Michael will be 7 on the 29th.

Garance, I was looking at the clip for the Cathe's Turbo Barr and liked it. I might get it later.

Deb, I have been waking up at 5 for the past 3 days and can not get back to sleep. I usually get up a 6:15 ;( If you do not like salmon, use the marinade for the spinach.

Hi to Joan and Cathy!

Josie

bought my turkey today before all the mid size ones are gone. I don't want a 24 lb monster! got a 15.5 that should be plenty for 5 people with leftovers. more guests on friday so that is a fall back meal as they will probably eat turkey sandwiches. they always bring their wonder bread and mayo and iceberg lettuce because I never have those basic staples of life. Whatever. we get along and laugh at each others' food choices.

Did KPC today. I got out Bootcamp and started previewing. wow. a lot of jumping that I don't remember. maybe later, not today. KPC went well. I always like that one, and I already had an hour of exercise early this morning.

Lynda, was it a serious thing or just someone trying to provoke a response? I have gotten the idea a lot of folks just like to yank the chain to see what happens. and it's pretty easy to do.

Deb, I actually like knee rollins. I like ball exchanges too. I can do a few pikes but not as many or as high. I get tired of crunches but do them 'cause they make the others easier.

I have an excuse for Monday and Tuesday for not posting but I don't know where the rest of the time went.

I am still only walking but did get in 5.3 miles on Wednesday. Most other days were 3 miles. I have told myself that if I'm not doing anything else I have to walk. I haven't really cut down food and seminar food was very fattening. I decided I needed to at least not gain over the holidays.

I had cancelled Thanksgiving because my oven was broken. I figured I would have to special order a wall oven. I also didn't want all the food around. My brother came over yesterday and fixed it. I think he really wants me to cook instead of his wife.

I told dil to have her parents babysit today and Friday so I can have some time off. Today's time off was leaving at 10:30 in the morning to take my mother to a 11am hair appointment to get her hair cut and colored. It was 5 minutes away but it takes that long to get her down the stairs and in the car. I bought all Thanksgiving food and took it home then sat and waited until she was done. We went out for lunch and got back about 3pm.

Joan

Good morning,

Up since 3:00 am, exhausted. Can't blame dogs this time. I have next week off, but with work issues, I actually feel guilty being off. I know that is dumb, but it is just the way I am I guess. I'm supposed to go to a fund raiser for the domestic violence haven house tonight. I think I will skip. I will give the money, but sure don't feel like sitting though a 3 hour auction/dinner

Garance, we ( actually John) has done most of the shopping for Thanksgiving. We bought one turkey, and need to get another smaller one. We get most of the things now, and closer to the day, get things like milk, rolls etc.

Josie, a double Peanut birthday party!! sounds like fun. will they then stay for Thanksgiving?

Valerie, we get a 24 pound monster, then another 12-14 pound one for "extra". I cook one on Wednesday, and the big one on Thursday. I never did like Bootcamp, but liked the other one it came with, can't remember the name right now. Muscle..something. Wonder bread? ewwwwww....

Garance, lucky you for not having to get involved with all that stuff going on. I wish I was retired. Next year at this time. At least, that's the plan.

Joan, walking 3 miles is a great workout! Don't sell yourself short. LOL about your brother fixing the oven so you can cook. I think you need to break it again, this time make sure you do it so he can't fix it.

Off to get more coffee and get ready for another fun day..joy.

Take care,

Walking is great exercise Joan, I agree with Deb, don't discount it. It's a good calorie burner and hard to get injured doing it. you can do it every day and not get sore, and you can keep it up a lot longer than more intense exercise, so the calorie burn is decent. wow, wish I had a brother who could fix an oven!
Too funny, my DH said we should host turkey day this year because he thinks I'm a better cook that the people whose home we would have gone to. I don't mind, and with more guests the next day I'd have to clean and cook anyway so might as well get as much bang for the buck as possible.
second guests are DH's sister & BIL. they eat awful food. Spam out of a can, cold, sliced on goo bread with mayo. mayo on everything. won't eat any decent lettuce, iceberg only. not even romaine. lots of times they bring their own food. I usually make something like lasagne or other tomato based pasta dish. they are not people to test new cutting edge recipes on... sometimes I'm surprised at basic ( to me) things they won't eat. fortunately we can joke about it

Deb, hope you get some sleep. I worry and agitate at night and miss sleep too. things that don't bother me during the day come back at night to haunt me and make me restless. yeah, donate but skip the 3 hr ordeal. better unwind and get a good nights rest.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Cardio SuperSets (41 min.). Blessedly short to end the week. I will do all LIS again next week.

Valerie, that sounds like a terrific move in yoga. You must have a very flexible spine. The graffiti read "All n------ must die!" Who knows why anyone would write something so offensive, although it certainly did lead to classes being cancelled for a day and a lot of crazy meetings and counseling sessions and "sharing" stories of being discriminated against. Compared to Penn State, this was a tempest in a teapot with a lot of self-congratulatory outrage IMO. Something like this seems to happen every couple years--swastikas, homophobic chalkings, female blowup dolls being dragged around while singing filthy football songs. I guess I am too old to get myself all in a fury again. Or too cynical.

Deb, so sorry you are stressed out. One more year, and then you can retire and relax. I'll be doing the shopping this Sunday for Turkey day, but it will only be three of us--DH, I and our younger son. So we are eating one of DH's bigger birds and skipping the turkey. I will do sweet potato and pecan pie and "Nanna's Dressing" (old family recipe), but DH will do the roasting and gravy-making.

Joan, it sounds like you were snookered into cooking again. Hope it is not too large a gathering, since I know you have Christmas parties to prepare as well. Nothing wrong with walking--whatever works.

Have fun with the grandkids, Josie!

Hi Ladies,

I want to wish all of you a happy Thanksgiving! I will probably not have time to post next week. My workout goal for next week is to run with the kids and hopefully be able to take a few bar classes.

My new Peanut #3 is due November 21st. I hope that he does not come until December; there are too many birthdays in November.

Deb, the kids will be going home next Wednesday. I wanted to keep them the whole week, but their mom wants them for Thanksgiving. They will be spending Christmas with me for 2 weeks, so I'm happy about that.

Hi to Valerie, Garance Joan and Cathy!

Josie

Lynda, if I were bending over backwards from standing , then yes. this is pushing up from the ground and not as hard as you'd think. you need to get your arms positioned right. some of the difficulty is being upside down and figuring out what to push in which direction. a little upper body strength doesn't hurt. they demonstrated on the lady next to me by giving her an assist with 2 straps to help her up and she did fine. I don't think either of us is especially flexible, probably average. It was just fun and surprising.

Too bad there are always jerks making life more difficult for others. My brother uses the "n" word all the time and I hate it. but there always will be provocateurs. never know if they're really serious or just trying to create a dust up for attention, or just because they can. Never truly goes away. when most of one generation gets old enough to know better, there's a new generation coming up that needs to re-learn all the same lessons. seems like truly dangerous people don't put their intentions on a chalk board.

Congrats on finishing all ( or most) of the LIS workouts this week. I am afraid to go back to Afterburn. that one about killed me. haven't decided what to do today. had to do some shopping and errands this morning and can't decide.

Heey there,

I guess I never posted today, nor did anyone else. I took Keegan to his agility class, and John took Kylee to the puppy playgroup. Fun doggie activity day. Nothing much else at that point, have to do some HouseMax stuff, and see about dinner.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.
