Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B : 10/25

Hi everyone--

This morning I did AB (54:00).

Deb, I don't really understand why, but the first season of Fargo was on HBO and commercial-free, but this new season is on FX and absolutely loaded with commercials. I wonder why HBO gave it up?? Anyway, I will simply record it and skip over the commercials when I watch.

Yesterday was very stormy with wind and rain. Today it's Indian Summer. And, glory be, it sounds like next week will be a gift in November--more Indian Summer.

Lori, I too can understand why you passed on that appointment. It's one thing if you can meet at somewhere within a few miles driving, but that would have been a lot of travel, even with the Skype and conference calls.

DH loaded his final group of chickens last night and set off this morning at 4:30 with Max. I think he's happy to have this trip done for another year. Of course, he will have to pick them up on Saturday, but that will be it.

Hi Ladies,

I went for a run yesterday and that is all I've done since last Friday. My back has been bothering me due to the uncomfortable car seat in my DH's car. He has a sports car and I hate traveling in it. I took him in to the hospital for his colonoscopy today. They found a few polyps and will get the results next week.

Lori, congratulations on your nomination, but I understand why you turned it down. I was never willing to give up my weekends.

Grance, I'm loving Fargo too! I love the picture of Max, my dog Astro used to think he was a lap dog too :)

Deb, glad that you had a good facial. I don't care for them either and I have 4 gift certificates that I have received from friends on birthdays and Christmas that will never use.

Valerie, the house that you rented sound wonderful.

Judy, glad that you are almost finished with STS. What results have your noticed?

Josie

Good evening ladies!

This morning I did Live Boxing with Leg Blasts. At lunch was Upper Extreme. I used Bands since we do not have enough weights. Even though I have brought some in I let the ladies use them. I know how to use bands to work the same muscles being worked. An inexperienced exerciser would not know what to do. I actually like using bands at work. I feel it works muscles differently and challenges me.

Deb...glad the car looks great. Oh so cute that Keegan gets so happy to visit. I bet they love having her!

Lynda...agree it was so nice here today! I had not heard about next week. Good to know! Where does your DH bring the chickens?

Josie...best to lay of working out if your back is bothering you. Hope you are feeling better soon. What kind of car does your DH have? Let us know your DH's results when you get them. I am sure they are fine. I know several people having polups and they go in and take them out and all is food.

Hi to Judy and Valerie!

just one day left...we really enjoyed this trip.

I want to join in on some topics but going back and forth on the connection here is iffy. all seems fine and then things lock up..so I will put in a link with pics after I get home.

lori you can judge best how much time that would take. I would not give up that many weekends if I was still working.

we finished Fargo maybe 2 weeks ago. really enjoyed it, and for the second time. I am a mid westerner and I confess I never heard accents like those, but DH and I keep imitating them!. I have a friends in MSP and never heard anyone sound like that either. still liked it. it was free on hulu but I think there were limited commercials. we are watching Homeland now and I am ready to be done. I cannot stand the character Carrie, never liked here, but this is totally obnoxious, and finding the story corny unrealistic TV type material.

Did anyone watch the R debate last night?

I always have my windshield cracked. don't bother replacing anymore . never seems in the sight line, but I get a rock chip and the chip runs before I can get anyplace to be fixed. last car had maybe 200 miles on it and bang, windshield cracked by a rock. our truck as been Ok so far. not lucky that way.

usually polyps are of two types, one is pre cancerous the other not. this decides how often he will need to be screened, every 1,2, 5 years that kind of thing. depending on family hx, age, type of polyp. my poor dh is on a yearly timetable while I am on 10 yr one.

Hi Everyone,

Tonight I did STS Disc 33, Shoulders, Biceps, & Triceps. I'm finished with week 3 and only have next week to go. I can't wait!

Deb-I think I will start the November Spinerval plan and wait for ICE to arrive. A few of the STS challenge group is planning on doing a Body Beast rotation. I am thinking of doing that, if the workouts are shorter than STS. I need a break from hour long weight training sessions.

Josie-I hope your DH's test results come back good.
As far as STS goes, I haven't noticed any big differences. I think my arms and shoulders might look a little more defined, and my chest & back feel stronger. I didn't work my legs as hard since I had some injury issues so I didn't really gain any strength there.

Lori- I like using bands and resistance tubes too.
I think you made the right decision not to take the appointment. I hadn't even thought of it, but like Josie said, you would have been giving up much of your weekend.

Lynda-I think our Indian Summer is over. It was only in the 40's today and with the windchill, it felt like winter. Sounds like more of the same tonight and tomorrow.

Valerie-I'm glad you enjoyed your trip. I'm on the 10 year colon screening timetable too. I can't believe it's been almost a year since I had my first one. Time flies.

Good morning & Happy Friday!

We had a nice day yesterday, even though John had to drive to the Galleria Mall to get under an overhang in the parking lot so the glass guy could do his windshield. We do not have enough room in our garage for that work to be done and he couldn't do it outside in the rain. Very creative of the guy I though.

Lynda, Thanks to you and Valerie, I requested the first disk of Fargo Season 1 from the library. "). I am not sure how Netflix or other streaming does it, but the library's seasons are broken down into 4 disks...they cost $1 if you have to request them to be brought to your library location, but it's still a bargain. I am now into the Robert B Parker "Jesse Stone" series of movies that were on TV that go along with the books he wrote. I like Tom Selleck a lot. How far is the trip with the chickens?

Josie, I hope your back feels better, nothing worse than back pain. I would call the places that you have the gift certificates for facials from and ask if you can get something else of comparable value. I am pretty sure they would do that for you. I am sure your DH's results will be fine...it's good that he goes regularly and has the procedure done, one of the best preventative procedures there is.

Lori, that is a great idea to use bands for some of the workouts....did the Ladies buy any of their own weights to leave at work for your workouts? Speaking of bands, I wish Cathe would do another all band workout, similar to Travel Fit. That one is very deceiving...it seems easy, but gets you good the next day.

Valerie, nice trip! I remember the heavy accents in the movie Fargo and was wondering if they did the same for the TV show...I guess they did. Did not watch the debate, heard enough about it on Talk Radio that I sometimes listen to.

Judy, STS Countdown! :). did you get Body Beast? I was interested in it a while back, but got distracted and didn't get it for some reason. I don't think we have had our Indian summer yet, here...maybe we won't be getting one. That would not be good since I still have some yard clean up to do and was waiting for it to get a little nicer for at least one day.

Anyone doing anything exciting this weekend? Sunday we have our annual worker appreciation dinner at the dog club, and the dog Halloween costume parade. We usually don't bring the dogs, but maybe we will this time.

Take care,

Hi everyone--

This morning I did KCM's Cardio Quick Fix (44:39).

DH has to take his chickens to NY because there is really only one facility for USDA inspection in MA and it's also far away and not as good or reliable. His drive is over 3 hours away with a truck and a trailer loaded with his chickens in crates. Then when he goes back, it's a refrigerated truck. Our state legislature in MA really ignores the upsurge in farming and the farm to table movement, so all of the many appeals to support more facilities basically are ignored in Boston. I'm not sure he will put so much effort into chickens next year. He may just raise some for us because it's been a real pain this year.

It's funny--my DH does notice an accent when we go to Minnesota, but definitely not as broad as they make it in Fargo. I think I have lost whatever accent I had because I have been east for so long, but every now and then when I say "yah" instead of yes, I am asked about where I'm from.

Deb, that sounds like a great idea for getting Fargo. I know one of my friends has been taking out the library dvds for an Australian show titled "A Place to Call Home." She loves it, so I may try it either on Netflix or from the library. Be warned: Fargo is very violent. We don't get any trick-or-treaters because we are set so far back from the road, so I haven't bought any candy or done any of the crazy decoration I see around town. I may go see the Spielberg film, "The Bridge of Spies," which had good reviews in both EW and the New Yorker. I just like Tom Hanks. He was compared to Jimmy Stewart and Henry Fonda in the NY review for being able to deliver big lines in a credible way. That seemed right to me.

Valerie, I watched an hour of the debate, and it was a total waste of time. Half the time, they don't even answer the questions, but go on to say something about whatever is on their minds. The next day I watched "Morning Joe," and both of the economics people (Steve Ratner was one of them, and Olivia something-or-other) couldn't believe the craziness of the flat tax proposals, which favor the wealthy and add trillions to the national debt. Ratner said all of the plans "were the height of fiscal irresponsibility." I don't know--a lot it was pretty loopy. Ted Cruz wants to get rid of the IRS--when pigs fly, I guess. Ben Carson believes in tithing (he's a Seventh Day Adventist and it works for his church I suppose.). I thought Republicans were supposed to be the ones who were fiscally more prudent. Maybe a debate would work if there weren't so many candidates on the stage and the commentators weren't asking "gotcha" questions that the candidates refuse to answer.

Lori, I love the band work as finishers on the RWH upper body workouts.

Judy, one more week of STS!

Josie, did your husband drive across the country in a little sports car? I know what you mean about uncomfortable little cars. I like my CRV and sitting higher with good back support.

Have a great weekend everyone and enjoy the extra hour of sleep!!!

Good evening ladies!

I had an early morning Doctors appt so no workout this morning. At lunch it was only 2 of us and we did Barre Legs.

Deb...yes I agree her Travel Fit is a great workout. Some of the arm work is intense! Using the workout blender I made an all upper body workout from Travel Fit that we do at lunch. The ladies love it. I have brought in weights and some of the ladies have too. But a few have graduated to heavier weights so I let them use mine. I do not mind, I like the change of pace with bands plus they would not know what to do with them. Would love a new travel fit! I have suggested she do a Cathe Live with all bands but nothing yet. Someone made up an all band workout on her online workout blender which is pretty decent. Excellent that your DH had the windshield changed.

Judy...yeah congrats! Almost done!!! I have Body Beast and have never tried it out. I think my brother gave it to me last year. I hear it is a great program. There is a newer one with the girl from 21 day fix and the guy from body beast. I think it is called The Hammer and the Chisel or something similar.

Lynda...ok I get it now with the chickens. To bad our State has that attitude. Funny with accents. When you hear me talk there is no doubt where I am from! I am so thankful my son does not speak like me. I try really hard to be aware of my a's, r's and er's but when I am on a roll all goes out the door. My DH cracks up when I am on a rant!

Valerie...your trip went by quick! Can't wait to hear all about it. We did not watch the debates. Sounds like the moderators were terrible from what I have heard on the news.

Yeah! Love that we change the clocks back. I have no plans for the weekend and very thankfull! After being in Mexico then immediatley at the Cape I need a relaxing weekend. Next weekend I am heading to DC.

Hi to Josie!

We are packing up after a last day. I should have been a wildlife biologist, but probably no way to make a living at it.
Lynda thanks for that... No way to get the debate here. The tv is the usual confusion of several remotes and channels that don't work. No one pays for premium channels and we could not even find a news channel. Is the Republican Party trying to self destruct? These guys aren't proposing anything in reason. I support Hillary but balance requires opposition and these people are crazy. I can't get morning Joe
Anymore. Not sure but it was dropped. I didn't.t always agree, but I enjoy the talk.
What is the buzz on the Steve jobs movie.....

I'm complaining about the seat in the Subaru. Feel like my butt is in an Adirondack chair when I prefer sitting level.

The laptop wouldn't work today for no reason so I'm using the teather and the iPad. We listened to several podcasts on the way and liked them. A new diversion. Listened to the discussion about the TX textbooks describe as sLaves as "workers" who "were brought here". Like it was a vacation or something. Like a cruise! Good grief....

I notice different speech patterns but notas extreme like in Fargo. Yes violent but they don't dwell on it I liked both the movie and the series.

Hi Everyone,

I did a spinerval this afternoon and am going to do a short core workout tonight.

Deb & Lori-I broke down and ordered Body Beast. It was only $39. I got it from Total Fitness DVDs, not Beach Body. Someone in the Facebook group mentioned a rotation that uses Body Beast and Cathe workouts so maybe I'll look at that one next.

Lynda-I didn't watch the debate but I've been listening to some commentaries about it on P.O.T.U.S. It does sound like it was a waste of time.

Valerie-The podcasts sound interesting. I'll have to check them out. I read about that textbook fiasco in Texas. Unbelievable!
Yes, it looks like the Republicans are trying to self-destruct.

Hi to Josie!

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Judy

Good morning & Happy Halloween.

Did you notice that Halloween is getting so popular, it almost overshadows Christmas. It's really cold here today, I was hoping for a warmer day to work outside.

Lynda, does Max get to go on the return trip as well? I remember the accent when I saw Fargo (the movie). I had never heard anyone speak from that area before, but thought it might have been a little exaggerated, but didn't know for sure. We will wait for your movie review.

Lori, with your workouts with the Ladies, this is where those weights you can change would come in handy...I forget what they are called at the moment. They have a dial on them? Probably a good idea to turn down the trustee position. How long will you be in DC? Where are you staying?

Valerie, you would be a great wildlife biologist! Did you get the Bluetooth to work in the car?

Judy, $39 is a great price for Body Beast...how many DVD's are included? Sounds like an interesting rotation. I can't justify buying anything new right now. I hardly use what I have. I have the new KCM coming and really looking forward to the ICE workouts.

Hi to Josie,

Agility class this morning, and our dog club member appreciation dinner/dog Halloween party tomorrow. We have not decided whether we will take the dogs or not. If we do, I will post some pics of them in "costumes"...LOL...

Have a great weekend!

Finally found a local channel that worked... We just didn't look hard enough at first.
On our way home. Really great trip, and the weather pooped out right as we got ready to leave. Could not have worked better. I think we are going to build and live here part of the year.

Deb , holidays where business can find ways for lots of people to spend money get most attention. Think that's why thanksgiving is becoming only a minor blip before the annual massive shopping frenzy. Guess turkey and cranberries don,t generate enough spending. Too bad because turkey day always was a favorite for me but now it's a minor speed bump on the road to the REAL spending.

Our problem with the iPod was we had titles. Think Lori said that. .... But no content. Works fine in the car and likely the truck too. Feel like dumb and dumber.

I thought I'd do some upper body stuff but didn't. We did enough hiking although only one long one. Lots of short fast things and with altitude it felt like enough. More later.

ETA yes we own 20 acres north of Yellowstone. We have a parking site there but didn't build. Dh was still working and it's too far away to just send a builder money and not be able to check on things. Plus we don't know much about leaving a house unoccupied for long periods time especially winter. So I think we will learn now. We are less happy about where we live currently. It is getting over crowded and traffic is a nightmare, real estate prices are insane. I like the climate and the gardening but the region is getting too urbanized.
