Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 10/24

Why is it kids all like the same junk? My mother cooked and baked, way more than most these days. but even then, none of us needed the rich desserts, cookies and brownies that were always always there. they were very much meat-and -potatoes people, very German/midwest cooking. Ketchup was considered spicy. As soon as I tasted more interesting food, I never looked at any of that again. My diet is quite good, apparently I just eat more than I should. bummer.

Next time I make curry I'll try a bowl of vinegar. I scrub the pans, the cooktop, even the overhead fan parts that are cleanable but it still hangs with me for a week. I like it even if I have to add the cayenne later to my portion.

still need to work out today, and not sure what to do. maybe disk 4, maybe cardio.

Finally Friday!

Good morning!

Well the week is almost over, I can't wait. No real plans for the weekend, except for Keegan's agility class and lots of HouseMax. Of course there is Halloween Sunday, where we answer the door 20-30 times. We are doing the usual toothbrush give a way. I probably said this before, I think that this is where the neighbors come to get their kid's replacement toothbrushes each year.

Valerie, have not seen Jane Fonda in a very long time. What does she do now? Is she living off of Ted Turner alimony?

Garance, the scientists were telling us all of the ideas that were not accepted, like burying it someplace in Nevada, since the government owns 80% of the state anyway...things like that.

Joan, good to hear your MIL is getting better, and that she did get to see so many family members. Mac & Cheese is still my all time favorite food! I don't eat it much anymore because I can sit and eat a whole box. Yes, my Mom always made the box one, no homemade for her..:)

Josie, I looked up the primer you mentioned, there is a lot of different ones with that name, which one do you have?

What is everyone up to this weekend?

Take care,

well, did a short time on the exercise bike, 20 on the treadmill and coremax. Not a killer routine but enough. I foolishly turned on the TV and after 15 out of 20 min being political ads, I bailed. Yipes, this can't be over soon enough.

I'm guessing Jane was on the entire hour. I watched a few scattered sections. she either works in or founded a program for sexually abused children and has a book coming in the works. There were shots of her with her new man dancing, (I don't know if he's a husband) her home, and pics of her horseback riding and fly fishing. She talked about what she's learned, how she wants to keep on learning. she seemed remarkably engaged, articulate, and energetic for a 75 yr old who looks more like 45. she's had work done but looks amazingly good, not tight or distorted, just like she's always looked. she's very thin and has incredibly long slim arms, fingers, and legs. Oprah is pretty large these days and maybe it was the contrast that made her thinness so noticeable.... trying not to be catty, here. she mentioned a new knee and a new hip. She was talking about her mother's suicide when she was a child and other difficulties. there were pics from a couple movies and her children and previous husbands, brother, father ,and mother.
I was cooking dinner and only saw bits and pieces. I've always found her a fascinating person who made her share of very public mistakes but always managed to hold her head up and keep on moving in new directions.

I need to do weights today, disk 4. we are going to take the camper and head east this weekend looking for better weather. taking mt bikes, snow shoes, hiking boots. we'll see what we can find!

Had lunch yesterday with a friend who just had a hysterectomy via a robotic procedure. she is 2 weeks out and doing well. just a few tiny holes rather than a huge abdominal incision. My neighbor is having a similar procedure in a week. I've dodged that process so far.

I still love mac & cheese too.... just make it differently, no box. lots of versions and most lighter than what I remember as a kid.

Everyone, have a great weekend.

I think my first weight lifting vhs was by Jane Fonda. It was actually pretty good. New videos arriving for Christmas in Collage video- Jane Fonda Fit & Strong and Walk Out.

I still love boxed mac & cheese.

I downloaded workout blender but don't know that I will use it.

Still doing the WIO and getting 1-4 miles in per day but no lifting yet. I'm determined to figure something out and start Monday.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did 4 Fast Miles with Leslie (50 min.).

This has just been a frenetic week. I am so glad that I can sleep in tomorrow and then do Housemax. Next week is even crazier. Registration and advising, the last of my tutorials, and then I have to go to NYC for the induction of Plath into the Poet's Corner at the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine. I will go to that and the reception on Thursday, and maybe stay over until Sunday for another reception.

Josie, I have never been to Las Vegas so it would definitely be an experience for me. I am not much of a gambler either, so that might be problematic. Do they have any spas?

Deb, so the government owns most of Nevada?

Joan, I don't know about those new Jane Fondas. I will wait for reviews over at Videofitness. I used to do that video with the two men over and over again. It was pretty tough.

Valerie, I made the chicken with cashews curry from epicurious.com. It was EXCELLENT! I could imagine doing it with veggies, though, too. The yoghurt and ground up cashews at the end just made the sauce creamy and thick. I made some plum chutney this summer from all the plums we had.

Have a great weekend!

Saturday

Good morning,

DH and I went out to an early breakfast, then did food shopping for the week. I will be off to agility class in a bit.

Valerie, that new hysterectomy procedure sounds interesting. Have a fun, safe trip this weekend.

Joan, don't you have to have an MP4 player or your computer in your work out area to use the downloads? I am still liking DVD's.

Garance, NY trip sounds interesting and could be fun. Yep, according to the scientist group the government owns 80% of Nevada. I guess the mobowns the rest? LOL.

Hi to Josie, & Cathy,

Take care,

I do have computer in my wo area but I'm still not sure I would make my own wo. I would probably leave out a muscle group.

Joan
