Good morning,

This morning I did 4DS Kickbox Legs and 10 minutes of the kickbox routine. A total of about 50 minutes, which is all I can take.

Garance, I really like those burning bushes, however it will look a little strange, with them interspersed between arborvitae. Not sure what to do. I would hate to remove the healthy ones, but now we have blank spaces between them...always something.

Valerie, how is the new stove?

Joan, have fun at the game, If it was here, it would be perfect football weather, sunny, no wind, and about 60 degrees..

Lots of HouseMax today, just finished putting Keegan's dog biscuits in the oven, bagged his regular food that I made yesterday, and still have tons of laundry to fold..

Take care,

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning I did KCM's Plateau Busters both workouts (45 min.).

Deb, good for you on the workout. That's one I haven't done in ages. Hmmm--not sure what I would do about the arbor vitae. Is it a lot of work digging them up and putting them somewhere else?

Watched the Avengers last night. Cannot for the life of me figure out why it received such praise from reviewers when it came out, nor why it's sooo long. About 2 1/2 hours of constant CGI fireworks, virtually no acting.

I guess I should make a list of what I want to wear in Bloomington.

Don't I wish..... we took the current one out of the wall and parked it in the garage. I tried turning it on to make some lasagne rolls, but no, it would not heat. went to around 200 and stopped, just like before. I turned it on and off a few times, and let it try to preheat but this is a dead soldier. whatever it's intermittent problem was, now it's a consistent problem. the replacement one is not arriving at the store until Wed. I hope this is the end of my run with bad appliances. I am downgrading to a simpler oven but it really isn'ty thast much less $$ but I do not want to screw with service on this after the DW. I will probably not get it until thurs and we will connect it as soon as possible but I do have a toaster oven to fill in some gaps. unless it arrives at the dealer Tues, and then I'll go get it sooner. we're used to camping so it's not that bad, just annoying after spending a lot of $$$ and getting zip.

Did House max and Yardmax today. I did get sore from LBB but not bad and very specific small little places. nothing to even get out Advil for. we plan to hike somewhere tomorrow, snow is arriving and will be limiting options very quickly.

We are planning our trip to CA in mid Nov. MIL is going ahead with radiation and probably a single drug chemo along with regular cystoscopy to trim down the tumor when needed. at least she says so. no way to tell how difficult it will be until she does it. I would not want to be in her place, but she is on some meds now that are helping her feel better and it's a more positive thing. we've talked to urol and oncol. that's a benefit of having a person in the medical field, you get more straight talk. we are hoping MIL does OK...she is a delightful person and I don't want her to have a hard time of it.

Lynda, I'm looking forward to the Ben Affleck movie you just saw. sounds like a movie I'll like. I havent' heard of the Avengers. is it an updated version of the Emma Peale thing?

Good morning,

Today I did the upper body pre-mix from High Reps. ( no abs), 30 minutes, 137 calories.

A nice weekend, on Saturday we went to a Pet Expo where our dog club was doing obedience demos. It was held at the fairgrounds, lots of vendors etc. Yesterday we took a ride out to a farmer's market where we get a bushel of squash every fall, for Thanksgiving, and for the rest of the winter. It was a beautiful day for a ride, DH had the sunroof open on his car and it was wonderful.

Valerie, I sure hope the new stove works! What a pain.

Garance, there really isn't anywhere else to put the arborvitae. We have them all along the 3 sides of the fence that encloses our yard. There are proably 15 or more of them, they were planted side by side, almost like a wall of green to kind of tone down the fence. I guess we will pull out the dead ones, and see how many more make it through the winter. I make lists for travel too!

Hi to Joan & Josie,

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did both of KCM's Cardio Quick Fix workouts (44 min.).

Leaving tomorrow for Bloomington, Indiana, and won't be back until next Sunday, so I won't be checking in.

Deb, I looked up the weather and it's challenging. In the 70s on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, then 60s on Friday, 50s on Saturday, and 40s on Sunday. There are special dinners every night and a book signing, plus my three gigs, two for scholars, and one for the general public. Very hard to decide what to bring.

Valerie, the Avengers came out this past summer to a lot of great reviews. It has the Hulk, Iron Man, the Black Widow, Captain America, some guy who is a great archer, plus two Norse gods--Thor and Loki (the villain). It has some witty dialogue every now and then, but most of this is just over the top violence and special effects. Argo is really much more exciting and at times, very funny and satiric about Hollywood.

Farewell, ladies. Back next week.

Good morning,

We had a good class last night, got home late though. I tried to sleep in, but DH got up to take the dogs out and that was the end of that.

Garance, safe travels.

Valerie, I hope your MIL does ok and is able to get some quality time once the treatments are over. Why do people not listen to loved ones and take care of themselves? Especially when your son is a Dr!

No workout today, just want to get through the day. Take care!

Lynda, hope you get the wardrobe choices ironed out .. have a good trip!.

Deb, you would think people would listen better when their son is an MD, but it seems to not be much of a factor. maybe they still view him as their child and don't see him as an authority figure & more knowledgeable than they are. the whole family has a strong hx for cancer of several types.
if colon cancer and plenty of others, in early stages, totally fixable and not even a painful or expensive process. so the others have been screened except for one sister who so far has refused to go. his mothers bladder cancer would have been picked up way earlier if she'd had a routine urinalysis done but somehow her primary care guy never did one or didn't follow up if the results were abnormal. can't fix the past and will just have to go forward, hopefully this will be OK for her.

did a hike yesterday, went early but there was a lot more snow than expected. we did a few miles, up to a nice viewpoint but could see clouds rolling in so headed out just ahead of rain. only 29 when we started but 39 on the way out. 4 hours RT, probably about 4 hours but deep snow made it slow going.

Hi Ladies,

I have been going to my Yoga studio for the last 3 days and I’m feeling more flexible than ever. Last nights class was hard and left there a sweaty mess. Today I will be going
to yogasculpt. I will be taking a couple of day off to go to Vegas, we will be celebrating
my DH’s and DD’s birthdays.

Garance, I know that whatever you picked for your wardrobe will be beautiful and classy ;). Have a safe trip.

Hi to Joan, Valerie and Deb!

Josie

Good morning,

I just finished AfterBurn Express....WOW...

Lots of this....

Still raining here, Valerie, I feel like I am in Seattle, ( normal Seattle, not recent!).

Valerie, A friend of ours Mom died from colon cancer, by the time it was diagnosed, there was not much they could do. They don't call it a "silent killer" for nothing..

Josie, those yoga classes sound pretty intense. I always say that I should do more of that or stretching for flexibility, but somehow never seem to do it. Like Valerie says, a class is probably better for that type of workout.

Work, then 2 agility classes tonight.....Can't wait for the weekend,
picklewave.gif

Did my yoga class and disk 31 later. this time I'll finish meso 3 before we go on vacation.
Maybe yoga is "natural " for some people.... not me! a picuture/dvd, I still do it wrong. full length mirror to see to compare helps, but even then I don't intuitively do things right. my instructor said very flexible people have the biggest issues because they are loose and can injure themselves, for women... shoulders. I can do the planks, side planks etc without a whimper because after STS it's not hard. I'm muscular and tight, especially hips & legs. when I sit, my knees stick way up. others sit crosslegged and their knees go down flat. ??? impossible ...I will never "see" lotus or fire log.

she works us hard but I'm never "a sweaty mess" maybe because of the other strength workouts I do? the studio is not a high temp one. I go to the coolest part of the room. We work hard. there's much more muscle involvement in yoga than I first realized. I get into some poses with good form now and the others... I keep working on. every class is different and fun. I feel so lucky to have found this class and instructor.

yes, colon cancer can sneak up and grow silently for a long time. even decades. often the tumors bleed a little and this can be detected using stool cards collected at home but screening colonoscopy is still far the best. people always say they don't want to go thru the test because "they're not having any trouble" but by the time they have "trouble" it may be too late. I didn't enjoy the process at all but it's one nagging background worry that's gone.

Very tired, it was a late class last night. We brought a cake to celebrate Keegan's performance at the trial a couple of weekends ago, ( no class last week that's why so late in celebrating), so we stayed to have that.

Valerie, I can honestly say, I have never tried a full yoga workout, little bits in a cool down, and I did try the P90X one that was 90 minutes of boredom. I did about the first 10 minutes, and stopped. I keep saying I am going to try one or both of the Cathe ones that came with the Low Impact series, but haven't yet. I will one of these days. I used to be able to do the lotus position, but my knees never went down flat either. I think my hips are too wide for that. :).

When are you going on your trip?

Work, then we have a roofer coming at 7:00 tonight to give us an estimate for all roofs, and gutters. Hopefully not too shocking..

Take care,

my first instructors were nice but kind of run-of-the-mill. this lady, Shelly, is very good and does something new every day. it would be boring doing the same old sun salutations every session. she almost always has a "peak pose" she's working toward and does a lot of related lead up things over the hour to prime us for it. so a lot is driven by her personality. her descriptions and demonstrations are accurate but hilarious. plus she is very strong and able to demo right way, and wrong way.
most of the people attending know each other somewhat, and there's a lot of joking and teasing back and forth. It's as much social as it is physical, and most everyone is 40-ish or older. shelley was trying to get me into some position and everyone else was trying to "hold' while I wrestled with it, and soon everyone was going, "hurry up valerie, please hurry up!! soI can't guarantee anyone else would find anything this good but it's totally different from trying to follow a boring DVD. Deb, you probably have enough on your plate with working and the doggies but it's just a pleasant alternative to plain old weight training if you get the right class.

yesterday was a stressful one. the night before I had to get up in the middle of the night, the toilet plugged when flushed, so had to turn off the water supply at 2 am. when I restarted the water I got a plumbing "air hammer", if you know what that is, that was so loud and vibrated so much it set off the smoke alarm which would then not turn off. the bathroom is right above the monitor set near the furnace in the basement and it vibrated a battery loose but it was hard to figure out at 2 am. all settled out OK but we thought the alarm people would call but they didn't. anyway, slept a little later and did not do a hike since it was raining like crazy anyway.

Did get the stove exchanged and whoopee, I have a working oven. not as glamorous as the other one but just fine. Had to do some bargain negotiation with the sales mgr but I was ready for him and got what I wanted. went to bed early to try to catch up on sleep and feel better this morning after 10 hours.

Good morning,

I just finished 40 minutes of CC #4. Love Coach Sean. RIP.

Well we almost fell out of our chairs with the amount of the estimate to do the whole roof, gutters and the roof on the garage. We decided to only do the roof of the garage, since that is the one that is leaking. The guy said our main roof and gutters looked ok and we should get a few more years out of them. Now I know why the first guy never came back. The job was too big for him. I wish he would have just said so.

Valerie, Now your toilet is rebelling? and then the smoke alarm with a mind of it's own? Are you sure you don't have some type of poltergeist in your house? :)

Work, then a quick dinner and off to agility class.

Hi to Josie and Joan. What's everyone doing this weekend?

yeah, expensive !! we did a roof a couple years ago and didn't do gutters at the same time, which we should have done. the contractor we picked was a jerk. seemed a nice guy .... reasonable, but once we signed up he disappeared and sent in his crew who were mostly from brazil. no english... two guys spoke english but most portuguese only. they did an OK job but I wish we'd picked the slightly more expensive guy. of course, that could have had surprises too. tearing off old ( if you need to) and putting on a new roof is quite a big deal. very disruptive and need good dry weather for the whole job.

did my yoga class in the morning, and LBB later. like that one and it goes pretty quickly without too much whining.

the toilets are 20+ yrs old & need replacing. we've had the water hammer before but this was a heck of a vibration and it happened to be directly above a part of the alarm system near the furnace. all ok though after we reset the battery. Hopefully all else is settled down.

Deb what do you plan? Josie, you must be off in Vegas. Joan, are you around?

today need to get my car oil change and whatever else is involved in a 3000 mile check. then my hair and costco. not sure about the weekend. our weather will be showery so we'll see what we can fit in between the raindrops.

Deb, hope the weather problems are not too bad and all blown out of proportion. sometimes the biggest, most hyped storms here turn out to be nothing special. hope that's the case for you. we probably don't get the details here that you do locally. Check in when you can... Hope Lynda's travel plans are not messed up too badly.

Good morning,

Had fun at class last night, there was only one other dog there besides our 2 so I worked on the floor a lot for an hour and a half. We kind of go out there one on one with the trainer in a round robin fashion.

Valerie, it started to rain some time last night, but not anything abnormal at this point. They are really making it sound like we are in for some horrible weather, with the worst getting here Wednesday. Just in time for the kids to go out "Trick or Treating". We have a class that night, and we are supposed to bring the dogs in costume if we want to, and we each are getting a jump assigned to us to decorate. This trainer likes to put things in to mix it up a bit. The Dog Olympics class we had was really fun. Not sure when Lynda is travelling back, I hope she is not stuck there because of the storm that may be here.

HouseMax today and tomorrow, normal weekend stuff.

Take care,

I can appreciate the NWS trying to get people prepared and warned. out here at least, the hype gets out of control pretty easily. and each report feeds on the one before. all the weather people are photographed standing "out in the teeth of the storm" in their parkas looking uncomfortable but not exactly at high risk. and then all the "isn't it awful" photos of the one tree that blew down. anyway, hope its over hyped and not worse than unpleasant.

I did some routine car service and got my hair done yesterday. shopMax too. got home too late to work out. think we will rip out our old carpeting upstairs one room at a time and replace with oak laminate. got some samples. we will keep carpet on the stairs but not much else.
