Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 10/20

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did X38--the 38 min. premix on X10 which combines the low impact and step workouts. Pretty good.

What I have to say about the beginnings of Women's Studies at Williams is only about 5 min. long (one of five on a panel) and really only of interest, I think, locally. The problem was that this was an all-male institution until 1972 (I was the first woman hired in the English dept.), when they brought in the first freshman class of women on a quota system--1/3 women to 2/3 men. It was a real struggle to create a curricular space for learning about women's history, place in society, and their achievements. If you really want to read something by me with a Women's Studies slant, there's a piece I wrote on Thelma and Louise that is fairly easy to find online.

Josie, I'm mostly knitting these days. I'm wearing a very pretty red wool double-breasted cardigan that took me ages to finish because of the lower half--lots of complicated stitches. I do have some knits that I plan to sew up quickly into turtleneck dresses, probably my favorite thing to wear in the winter.

Yay, Red Sox!!!

Hi Everyone,

Tiger is doing about the same, he is eating a little bit more. We had to make a change to his routine. We are giving him subq. fluids twice a day now, as the vet wanted us to go up to 150 mls from 100 and that was too much at one time for him.

Tuesday DH went to the Dearborn Animal Shelter on his lunch break. He found a kitten that reminded him of Misty and he insisted on taking me back there after work to meet her. I did not feel ready and hadn't even thought of getting another cat so soon. I went and she did look exactly like Misty. She was so sweet and I couldn't say no to giving her a home. The shelter was just over run with cats and kittens. They were in a trailer with cages stacked on top of each other.

We are keeping her separated from Tiger for 2 weeks, as per shelter suggestion. We introduced them and they did head butts so I think they will be ok.

Last night I did a 45 minute core workout. First I did Core Max workout 1, then Ab Circuits-Medicine Ball Abs and Yoga Abs. I really enjoyed the Yoga one. I might have to get Cathe's Yoga DVD. This morning I did a Spinerval.

Sounds like you are all getting good workouts in! I've been trying to keep up with everyone's posts even though I've not been posting as much.

Have a good night,

Judy

Finally Friday!

This day could not come soon enough! I am finding it harder and harder to work 5 days in a row. A part time job sounds great right now.

Josie, Happy BD to your DH & DD! Have fun on the trip!

Lynda, did you finish that jacket that you had started? It was a particular type ( I forgot the style at the moment!). It was something timeless, you were having problems with the buttons I think?

Judy, glad to hear Tiger is coming along, and Happy New Kitten! Post a pic if/when you can.

Work, then home to relax. What is everyone doing this weekend? Haircut/color tomorrow, then Member appreciation BBQ dinner and Halloween dog parade on Sunday at the dog club, Otherwise normal weekend stuff.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Flex Train (56 min.). I really love this workout. Total body, no dread, flies by.

I sold my STS on Amazon for more than I originally paid for it. I just knew after my shoulder agony that I would never do it again, so I'm glad it's off the shelves and not staring back at me. I had not even opened up the squat rack dvd.

Judy, that's great news about Tiger. Will the new kitty be another Misty?

Deb, I finished my Chanel jacket last year. I will probably wear it some time this weekend with all the Women's Studies events.

Enjoy Vegas, Josie!

Good afternoon ladies!

Shelter went well last night. It is always bittersweet when we go here. So many people down on their luck. Glad I was able to help with a hot meal.

Today I did flex train followed up with great glutes then walked chester 3.5 miles! Needed to get the walking in immediatly otherwise I knew I would start to feel how tired I was from those two workouts. Like you Lynda I really like flex train. This was the first time I did great glutes and I liked this one too. I used 2lb ankle weights for the hydrants and pizza press. I was dying towards the end!!!!!

Deb....take pictures of the pet parade. How cute this must be!!!!!

Judy...they say you should not get a pet right away but I always do and I find it helps tremendously! Congrats on the new kitty!!!

Going to the cape for the weekend. I am off today an will be leaving shortly.

Hi to Valerie and Josie! Hope you are both enjoying your getaways!

Hi Everyone,

This morning I did Muscle Max, again. I can honestly say that I now have this workout memorized. I tend to get in a rut of sticking to one workout that I like, but I need to challenge myself and do something different. Maybe I will go old school and do Pure Strength this weekend.

Tiger is still eating well today.

Deb-the dog parade sounds like fun! Hope you get some photos.

Lynda-yes, I think this kitten is very similar to Misty. DH and I decided, after a very emotional weekend, that we will always have a black cat (Misty) and an orange cat (Tiger). I just didn't expect that it would be so soon and I still have mixed feelings about that. Like Lori said, it does seem to help to have a new kitten around. She is a cutie.

Flex Train sounds good, I might have to look at that one too.

Lori-Good of you to work at the shelter. I used to do that regularly when I was in college, so long ago.
I really need to check out Flex Train.

We decided to name our kitten "Misty's Echo", and will call her Echo. We want our adoption of her to be a living tribute to Misty. We will never forget our sweet girl..

Hi to Valerie & Josie,

Judy

Good morning and Happy Saturday!

Nothing much going on here, very windy almost blizzard type winds without the snow..(yet!).

Garance, yes, isn't Flex Train one of Cathe's most refreshing workouts? I don't know why I describe it that way, but it just fits for me. "Chanel"! that was the description I could not remember. It sounds perfect for your events this weekend.

Lori, it is great that you do the shelter dinner! "pizza press"? LOL...never heard of that exercise, now you have me thinking about doing that one.

Judy, Pure Strength is a classic! Love those types of workouts. Thanks for posting the pics. Echo is so dark, I can't even see her in the first pic, but the second one where she is peeking out from the books is so cute! Do not feel bad about getting Echo so soon. I think our hearts grow, with every animal we have, Misty left an opening in your heart, and I am sure she would be happy that you filled it with another kitten that needed a good home. She will never be replaced in your heart will always have her space there.

I have a hair cut/color, then agility class, then later tonight we are going to see Hugh Laurie in concert at a local theater. That doesn't start until 8:30...almost my bedtime LOL.
