Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 10/17

Did disk 1 of STS yesterday. geez, I forgot how many pushups there were. wow.. I did as many as I could. backed off on the weights a little, like 12's instead of 15's, but did it all. also did coremax 1. wrist is OK this morning. just some minor soreness that I expect will be around for a while yet.

No sign of the car mouse, he is happily dreaming of potato chips, doritos, and cheese curls somewhere in the woods.

Joan, hope things go well for MIL and that it doesn't drag out too long. would be great if she is alert enough to enjoy guests.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Barefoot Cardio (48 min.).

Deb, I seem to be doing okay with my new computer, but it will take awhile to get used to the Office 2007 for sure. Gee, we just go to Tractor Supply for Max's dogfood--at the recommendation of the breeder. He gets a lot of Pupperoni and Beggin' Strips, though. DH calls me Mother Treatsa.

Valerie, that is the reason I have not started STS yet. Not sure my elbow could take all those pushups. Loved The Grifters when it came out. I like film noir a lot. Have you ever seen Blood Simple? It's so good I think I may have to watch it again. Frances McDormand and enough twists and turns to satisfy my dark comic mind.

Joan, I bet you are happy to be done with the remodelling. What kinds of tricks and treats are you serving for Halloween?

Hi to Cathy and Josie!

Apparently I'm a film noir fan and didn't know it. I loved Blood Simple. Can still smell those fish on Marty's desk.

Mother Treatsa! what a hoot!

Yeah, the sheer number of pushups is overwhelming. I'd forgotten all the positions... how many ways ARE there to do pushups??? I did all right considering I haven't done hardly any in about 2 months. I never was able to do them all on my toes but more than yesterday. gotta work my way back up. I never intended to take this long off upper body.

DH is already stewing about how we can maintain cardio fitness as the weather turns cold and wet. It's hard to find fall/winter activities that go 3-7 hours like hiking and biking. the intensity level is less but the long duration builds endurance. in winter we xc ski but it's not possible as often. last winter there was almost no skiing here. road biking ( or mt biking) when it's 38 and raining doesn't have a big fan club. he's talking about outdoor trail running but my enthusiasm is not great. the treadmill and elliptical are fine for an hour but that's about all I can stand.

Saturday

Good morning,

Today I have the agility class, and a manicure at 12:30. Then I want to shop for a new suit to wear to a meeting in DC next week. We also have the Member appreciation dinner, and the dog Halloween party. Fun...

Of course there is the usual weekend,

Valerie, I am tempted to start STS again, but not sure if I would do Meso 1. It's not even the push ups as much as how fast she goes. I liked Meso 2 the best for the number of reps and the rest time between sets. I am looking forward to the new STS total body DVD.

Garance, what type of food do you get at Tractor supply? we have one of those here too. I think it's too late to put Kelsey on any other food except something with low fat. We think we will try the Blue brand of senior and add our own chicken to it to up the protein content.

Hi to Joan, Cathy and Josie,

Have a good weekend!

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning was major Housemax. We are having a new furnace installed--a very complicated wood/oil burning thing (25,000 dollars) to replace our last one which we have had for about 25 years and is now falling apart. Anyway, the workmen/installers made a total mess of my downstairs floors, so it took several buckets to really get the tile clean.

Deb, just wanted to let you know that the essential-c was in my mailbox today, so will send a check tomorrow. I'll check with DH about the dogfood. You will have to give us a review of the new STS total body. I am into these very light weight workouts for the upper body (Squeeze actually makes my arms sting) and barre stuff for the lower body like P-57, which is kind of ironic. I now have 25s, 30s, and 35s for dumbbells, purchased shortly before I broke my elbow.

Valerie, there are some really good old films noir--Out of the Past with Robert Mitchum and Jane Greer is really good. It's not in color, but the lighting in film noir is perfect for black and white cinematography.

Have a great weekend everyone! I have Drill Max up for my Sunday circuit.

I don't worry about the speed of meso 1. I'm used to pausing because I can't change up my barbells fast enough, and also get a mat, a step, ( or get them out of the way) and not break my neck tripping over things. I keep the pace as quick as possible, but the "screw on" plates take longer and you do NOT want to drop a 10 pounder on your foot. I don't "like" pushups but I think they have big benefits so I'll do them as best as possible. don't know if I'll ever reach 30 in-a-row toe pushups. Lynda, I'll take a look at that movie if DH doesn't throw a fit, as long as netflix has it. Drillmax is fun!!

We're doing the laundry room floor today, putting down an extension of the tile we put in our family room and hallway. wanted to be sure it worked for us before doing the complicated floor pattern in this room. It will take a couple days to do it ...glue needs to dry and it being a narrow room we can do one only section at a time. this is like housemax but worse. makes a REAL mess. but once it's done, it's DONE and will be much nicer and easy to keep clean.
