Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 10/16/2022

This morning I did High Intensity Cardio Step. 1) I got an excellent workout. 46 minutes long, 29 cardio, 8 fat burning, 5 peak. Only 3 minutes below zone. 2) I really really wished that I liked athletic style step more. And jacks, because she really loves to put them in athletic type workouts.

Valerie sorry to hear the smoke was too bad for you to ride. I haven't had as much trouble finding products, I normally buy at the store, but I buy few of the products the majority of people buy. Every week I look to see if there's been any progress on the Trader Joe's across from Whole Foods, but it seems pretty stuck and only having the cement laid. Originally they said early 2023, but the bulk of the work still has to be done on it. On good roads, it takes me about 35 minutes to get to WF and the Meijer I shop at, but I can't get the things we want any closer. I've been doing it for years so it's just what I do. I grew up in a nearby town that's closer to Lansing, and when people would come out to our house for the first time, they'd be like it's SO FAR, and we went into Lansing for any major purchases, and my Dad worked around Lansing at the time, and then I did when I graduated, so it was just normal to us. DH and I have slept in separate places for years. Sleep apnea snoring is REALlY loud and he refuses to use anything to help him. I sleep in the basement unless Nick is visiting because it's a small house and even with the door closed, I can hear him everywhere upstairs. Great job with the spin ride, abs and PT exercises.

Carolyn I'm glad you had a good time at the Farmers Market.

Judy great job with the Peloton rides and core.

Diane Sue nice job with Step Workout and Do Anywhere Gorgeous Toned Arms. That's a great name for a workout!

Good morning. Today I did my usual yoga workout for 18 minutes.

Judy, thanks for starting us off this week. Great job with the Peloton rides and Peloton strength and core work.

Diane Sue, nice work with CDorner Step workout, Arm workout, and stretch. I’m glad that you were able to sleep better even though you were awakened early by the lawn care person.

Valerie, great job with the spin ride, XTrain abs, and therapy exercises. You are making good progress with the therapy exercises. I hope that you have a good drive.

Cathy, great job with High Intensity Cardio Step. I’m not crazy about athletic style step workouts either.

Waving hello to Lori. Have a wonderful day everyone.

Today was a rest day. We had our monthly family get together. Some could not be here though. We had my granddaughters and their husbands and my son and grandson. We had a nice visit. I got to see pictures of my granddaughter's bachelorette party. It looked like fun.

Long day yesterday but decent drive. lots of lovely fall color showing. roads were not crazy busy considering how nice it was out. still took 11 hours. with only gas/potty stops. its a simple straight east drive on freeway with only some sections of slow downs for lane resurfacing. lovely here. DH of course went down into the crawl space right after we got things up and running to see if we got the mouse problem handled. We did! last time here we found and sealed off a construction defect on underside of a pipe to the septic where it exited the crawl space. a few feet underground. it took the mice a few years to find it. they are persistent. we took pics and confirmed with the builder before we sealed it off. I cant tell you how excited DH was that we finally solved it. we had to tear off a lot of insulation to get to the area otherwise we would have found it sooner. new houses are sealed tight so we were hesitant to rip into things.

we both feel decent today so we are doing a low level mt bike to stretch out the legs and acclimate.

Cathy( Im sure you know already) he shouldn't ignore sleep apnea. all kinds of potential very serious health repercussions. he's an adult, you can't make him listen. common problem. my sister had it but it went away when she lost 30 lbs. this doesn't work for everyone but she has a short fat neck and weight loss fixed it. my DH had mild apnea but no snoring. he got an oral appliance (like a fancy nightguard) to wear at night. his frequent migraines quickly dropped to almost none. he used to have them weekly, often several in a row, and now 2 all year. I suspect warnings etc fall on deaf ears! he sounds like the kind of guy who won't see a doctor, and if he does, wont mention that problem. I have a dear friend who has severe sleep apnea. I could not believe the noise! even on another floor with door closed it reverberated! she is on cpap now and feels much better. a common health problem that is often ignored.

I could get to other stores but its a significant drive with major traffic. I dont know why our area has been overlooked. there is a TJ's about 25 miles away I used occasionally but havent in years now.

Well I did 40 minutes of Bands and Bodyweight Travel Workout, which is 59 minutes, but I just was really not liking it. But, at least I did that much.

Valerie glad you made it there safely and your mouse problem is solved. I'm totally aware that he shouldn't ignore the sleep apnea, and his is obstructive sleep apnea, but the sleep study he did was at least a dozen years ago if not more and his sleep is a total mess. On weekends, he'll literally fall asleep on the couch, or bed at least a dozen times during the day for 5-30 minutes and that just creates an even bigger issue at night. But then this is a man who has known he's had prostrate cancer for three years and not done a single thing about it. Not a darn thing I can do about it, as he's extremely determined to ignore it.

Carolyn nice job with the yoga.

Diane Sue glad you enjoyed your family gathering.

Today I did LiTE Stacked Sets Lower Body for 41 minutes and 219 calories burned. My average heart rate was 125 and maximum heart rate was 153.

Diane Sue, family time is so special. I’m glad that you had a good day.

Valerie, I’m glad that you had a nice drive. Long drives are tedious, but it’s good when you have no problems. Good news about solving the mouse problem.

Cathy, good job with Bands and Body Weight Travel workout. I must admit that I’m shocked to read about your husband’s attitude about his health. To ignore something like prostate cancer is unbelievable! You are right, there is nothing that you can do to make him take action. Your approach seems like the best course of action at this point.

Hello to Judy and Lori.

we did a 2 and 3/4 hour ride this morning. it was lovely out. sunny and cold to start but warming up nicely. this is a technically easy ride on a rough road that recently reopened with some flood damage. hardly anyone uses it. we did 10 miles total. lots of stops to look at gorgeous fall colors . and a ruffed grouse. uphill one way, downhill all the way back. starting elevation is 5680 feet. goes up about 1000 feet from there. gradual but good to get adapted to the altitude. this week is nice but deteriorating over the weekend so getting riding in now.

oh my cathy.... I'm reminded of those photos showing men in ridiculously dangerous situations saying "why women live longer than men". there are different types of sleep apnea and different treatments depending. same with prostate cancer. some are very slow growing, so he'd probably die of something else. others are fast and aggressive. not knowing what he has is not stacking the odds in his favor. until each condition is evaluated he has no facts. a difficult man to live with. no wonder he doesn't want to do anything. he's exhausted all the time from no restful sleep.

Today I did Coffey Fit Raw Cardio Core Fusion, 36 minutes, heart rate 120/158, 167 calories, 1,702 steps. I then did Raw Boxing and Legs 2, 34 minutes, heart rate 141/160, 203 calories, 1,812 steps.
This was 70 minutes, 370 calories, 3,514 steps. I also did my own mix of stretching and using the foam roller to loosen up. I liked the Cardio Core Fusion. It is low impact, but they use a step with 4 risers. To take it down she suggest less risers and to increase use a weighted vest or weights.
I am trying to get all of my appointments done that have been put on hold. I hope the new glasses come soon. I have a dentist appointment for cleaning etc. tomorrow. I think it has been a year since I went. I had to cancel during the shoulder stuff and just had not got it done. I tried to get it for last tuesday when I was at game day since it is close, but nothing was available. I doubt I work out tomorrow as the appointment is in the morning and it is about a 50 minute drive. The next week I go to the arthritis doctor. That is the one I dread driving to as it usually takes and hour and 10 minutes.

Coffey Fit Raw Cardio Core Fusion 33:36 minutes
Step with 4 risers used and easy to follow. Suggestion to lower step height to take it down a bit or add weighted vest or weights to give even more of a challenge.

Valerie, I am glad you made it there and got out for a ride today. I bet the fall colors are beautiful there.
That is good you fixed the mouse problem. I have been spoiled with having plenty of grocery stores close to me till we moved to this house. Walmart is not that far, but I really do not like going there. I just order groceries.

Cathy, I know how it feels to not really love a workout after starting it. At least you did most of it anyway. I have found you just cannot make someone go to the doctor if they do not want to. I think men do that way more than women do.

Carolyn, nice work with Stacked Sets lower body. I love family time. We have always tried to arrange time to get together. Next month I am doing Thanksgiving dinner a bit early to be able to get everyone here since there are second family things and some like my husband will have to work. I need to get out and get a Turkey. I won't just order one from Walmart as I would not be able to pick the largest size. I checked and it just says one price which I am guessing is max and 16-23 lbs. I do have a Turkey breast that I had already purchased.

Yesterday I did 80 minutes of Peloton rides. Today was a rest day. I did Yin Yoga this evening.

Cathy-Great job with High Intensity Cardio Step and part of the Bands and Bodyweight Travel Workout. I'm sorry about your husband. Like Carolyn, I'm shocked that he is ignoring prostrate cancer. You can't force someone to get medical care and I'm sure it must be extremely frustrating for you.

Carolyn-Great job with Yoga and LiTE Stacked Sets Lower Body.

Diane Sue-Great job with Raw Cardio Core Fusion. Thanks for the breakdown. It looks like a good workout.

Valerie-Great job getting a long bike ride in.

Hi to Lori

women see doctors for gyn issues. we get the habit early for menstrual cycles, birth control, pregnancy etc. men may not see a doctor except maybe for sports physicals that aren't very detailed. then it gets hard to teach an old dog new tricks. my DH suspected he had apneic spells but I never saw any, and he never snored. he had frequent migraines for no particular reason. there are options other than a CPAP device but it depends on cause. many things can be involved. Cathy, difficult situation, but you seem to have made peace with yourself about DH's bizarre behavior. my DH was in practice for 25 years. I have heard about a lot of extreme behavior.

we are doing another ride today. it looks like a big weather change coming, and general deer hunting season start this weekend. wish we could be in the park but not looking likely. I need to allow about 45 min a day to do my therapy exercises now. I started with fewer sets and reps so I didnt get too sore, but I'm up to 3 sets of 10 on everything now. I plan on revisiting PT when we get back and reassessing what I'm doing.

Judy 80 min on an indoor bike amazes me.
I
Diane sue many of my medical people are about an hour drive away. it's not that many miles but traffic can make it a long trip. for groceries I wont go that far. good fruit and vegies are my priority.

This morning I did a Crossfire timesaver. I did the Fitness Blast +Firewalker Tabata for 29 minutes and 191 calories burned. My average heart rate was 134 and maximum heart rate was 185. We just got back from early voting. I’m glad to have that completed.

Diane Sue, great job with Raw Cardio Core Fusion Boxing and Legs. I have a few appointment coming up in the next few weeks. I didn’t plan it that way, but some things had to be rescheduled and now they are clustered together.

Judy, great job with 80 minutes of Peloton rides and Yin Yoga. That’s quite a ride!

Valerie, I hope that you get that ride in today. Great job with the therapy exercises.

Hello to Cathy and Lori.

This morning I did Warrior Kickboxing 2. That one is about 40 minutes kickboxing and finishes with ab work. Have you all seen the new equipment etc. that Cathe is selling? I want STS 2.0, but I'm passing on all that. I'm still using my padded FIRM barbell I got around '92! Works just fine. Plus next month is the trip to Fort Worth, and that's going to cost me quite a bit. You all aren't saying anything about DH that I haven't thought, but I've had years to come to terms with him and his behavior, so while at times I do still get frustrated, I've pretty much accepted that there's not a darn thing I can do. Nothing anyone has said has made any difference.

Carolyn nice job with LiTE Stacked Sets Lower Body.

Valerie sounds like a great ride that you had yesterday! It must be very pretty there this time of year.

Diane Sue nice job with Cardio Core Fusion. Did you see that among the 8 stretch, yoga, mobility type workouts in STS 2.0 she's doing 2 foam roller ones? From a couple comments, I get the impression these will be sold seperately. That would be good as I know not everyone wants the whole set.

Judy great job with the Peloton and yoga.

we are back from another ride. only 33 degrees when we started but didn't feel that cold. it was close to 70 by the time we finished. about 1 hr 45. about 8 miles. around a reservoir in the mountains above bozeman. lots of up and down but trail is mostly wide, not single track. it felt good and was fun. we do it every year. again at 6800 feet so a good lung workout. we finished when a lot of people were just arriving. a little chill in the air slows down the young people. :p

therapy work later today. ETA therapy work done.

no cathy, I didnt think for even a second you could do anything. many people are weird, illogical about medical issues. they will spend an appt with their doctor, wait until the last 10 seconds to mention the real reason they are there..."I have this intermittent chest pain", or "I keep blacking out " etc. like if the doctor didn't somehow intuit these things, that it meant they weren't happening. so many stories we could tell.

fall colors are lovely here but different from the midwest. we have a lot of conifers that stay green. except for larches, that turn a gorgeous yellow and then drop their needles. the midwest has wonderful color with reds and yellows, but it sounds like it all turned to white quickly this year.

carolyn the Georgia election is one everyone will be watching. I hope it ends in a reasonable way. could say that about a lot of other places.

This morning I did Jessica Smith’s Cardio Step Jam which was 33 minutes and 215 calories burned. My average heart rate was 127 and maximum heart rate was 142.

Cathy, great job with Warrior Kickboxing 2. I did see the new equipment that Cathe is offering. I don’t plan to buy anything since I already have so much workout equipment. Of course, I might change my mind about something small.

Valerie, great job with the ride and therapy work. Yes, the election here in Georgia is definitely high profile this year.

Hello to Judy, Diane Sue, and Lori.

Yesterday was no workout as the dentist took a long time doing lots of mouth images. It took me an hour to get there as there was some road work and when I left it took a little less time coming home even though I took a bit longer route to skip the road work.

Today I got up and went to take some shirts my husband for UPS pickup and then went to Walmart to pick up a turkey for Thanksgiving and a few things I needed and did not want to order on delivery. Then I came home and did CDorner Cardio Step Aerobics Int/Adv 31 minutes, 135 calories, heart rate 116/144, 2,118 steps. I had a hard time getting my heart rate up with this one. It kept telling me I was in my easy zone on my Garmin. I was sweating and it is cold today. It will warm back up, but in the 30's last night.
I then did her Mindful Mobility Practice, 31 minutes, 51 calories, heart rate 79/100. This one was larger motion mobility and she spent quite a bit of time on the neck and shoulders. There were a few different moves. I liked it even though some of the moves were a bit difficult for me. I am so stiff most of the time. No down dogs in this one. She starts outstanding. Total time was 62 minutes, 186 calories, 2,131 steps.

did a real hike today. started out cold and got very warm, sunny. started at 6500 and went up to 8200 feet some big blow downs needing a climb over. I wasn't fast but I got it done!. wore a leg brace that slows things a little because its a bit awkward, especaially going over big tree trunks. was 5 hrs 40min at elevation my knee did fine and its not sore, just overall tired. .

Yesterday I did an upper body circuit at the gym. Today I did 4 DS Lower Body weights, 25 minutes of Peloton rides and LiTe Extended stretch #1. Tomorrow I work 6 hours then I'll be off Friday and all weekend.
It's supposed to get into the 70's over the weekend so I'm planning on an outdoor run. I'm sure it will be the last good weather weekend for this year.

Valerie-Great job with your ride and hike. I usually keep my indoor rides under an hour but I had a little extra time on Sunday.

Carolyn-Great job with Crossfire Fitness Blast +Firewalker Tabata timesaver and Cardio Step Jam. We did our early voting this week too.

Cathy-Great job with Warrior Kickboxing 2. We don't have much more room for gym equipment so I'll have to pass on the new weight set. I have a Troy Lite barbell set that should be fine for STS 2. I'm really looking forward to it!

Diane Sue-Great job with CDorner Cardio Step Aerobics and Mindful Mobility Practice. I have a dental appointment next week that I'm not looking forward to.

Hi to Lori

Carolyn, nice work with Jessica Smith's Cardio Step Jam and yesterday's Crossfire timesaver. My dentist appointment just sort of happened. I kept procrastinating and they called and left a message. The receptionist is a good friend and had to call back. We always have a catch-up chat when I go in.

Valerie, I am glad that you are getting your rides in. It was frosty outside this morning. I think my husband said it was 33 degrees outside last night when he was working. It is weird because later this week our high will be back up in the 80's.

Cathy, nice work on Warrior Kickboxing today. I did see a lot of the equipment she has. I have the foam roller that she put up on her store not too long ago. I like it. I recently purchased lifting gloves from Amazon so have no need for those. I got rid of one of my barbells when we moved and kept the shorter one that I got with Les Mills Pump. I still have extra plates that work if I want to lift more than 45# on the barbell. The bar only weighs 5#. I doubt I will be putting a heavy bar over my head to get it on my shoulders though. I used to could get up to 85# up and on my shoulders. I just would not take a chance trying it again.

Judy nice work on the upper body circuit at the gym, and today's 4 Day Split Lower Body weights, 25 minute Peloton ride, and the stretch.

Today I did LiTE Stacked Sets Upper Body for 40 minutes and 252 calories burned. My average heart rate was 131 and maximum heart rate was 160.

Diane Sue, good job with CDorner Step Aerobics and Mindful Mobility. There seems to be road work and delays everywhere that I go these days. It makes everything take longer than it should.

Valerie, that was quite a hike yesterday. Great job.

Judy, nice work with the upper body circuit at the gym, 4 Day Split Lower Body, Peloton ride, and LiTE Extended Stretch.

Hello to Cathy and Lori. Have a wonderful day everyone.
