Good morning,

Today I did 4DS Legs/and 15 minutes of the kickbox portion. I expect to have major DOMS.

well we did better than expected yesterday at the trial. We got half the points in the first run because we were over time by .91 seconds!! No faults, or any other issues. A little disappointing but I was proud of how he ran the course and did not fault or go on the wrong equipment etc.

Raining here today, and I have to catch up with HouseMax that I ignored yesterday.

Valerie, it would really bother me if I just paid for a brand new stove, or whatever appliance and it needed work and/or parts the first day it was used. It kind of sets the tone for things to come. I would demand that they bring another one and install it for free.

Garance, sounds like you had a great time with your company!

Off to start some things around here,

Take care,

Deb, if it isn't something really simple, that is the plan. all the lights and things come on, fan blows, etc but if just won't heat. I am not going to go thru replacing boards and other parts. but thanks for the pep talk. someone will be out tomorrow

just did house things yesterday, showery and mild out, but not weather to go anywhere. the huge squash will live on the garage floor until I chop into it...with an ax. no cleaver would be up for this.

Hi Deb and Valerie--

This morning I did KCM's Plateau Buster, both workouts (45 min.).

I had a fun weekend with my friends from Minnesota. One of them is a veterinarian, and we go way back to 7th grade when we were in an accelerated class. The other woman is her partner. We did Manchester, VT and the drive up there is absolutely gorgeous this time of year. Went to the Lincoln home, Hildene, and stopped at a lot of the outlet stores, but especially this terrific bookstore, where we spent a lot of time. If you buy 100 dollars worth, you can have it shipped free, so they bought books, but also maple syrup and maple cream. We stopped at a Woolrich store, and I fell in love with a red hooded cape made in VT. at a place that's been making them for over 80 years. Just plain gorgeous--with pewter buttons from Norway. My friend bought the same cape in black. (No clothing tax up in VT.) I really like it because I can wear some of my bulky sweaters under it without feeling like the Michelin man. We went to a hilarious fiction reading where they met my colleagues. We watched Vertigo and Melancholia so we could talk about a piece I want to write. We gorged on steamed lobster one night. We watched the debate, but we are all Democrats--no way any of us would vote for lyin' Ryan or his ideas about women's bodies under the control of the state. Yuk! I think he's a weasel trying to distance himself from his own votes in Congress and Romney is a chameleon who says he's a severe conservative one day and then pivots to the center the next. We went out to dinner last night and had a great time at Mezze's. It was like a mini-vacation for me. A lot of fun with old friends. I had not seen them since the wedding last September.

My friend showed me an absolutely hilarious cat video, which I will try to find and give you the link. It's titled Henri Paw de deux--the cat talks in French with subtitles, and he sounds like the epitome of ennui and angst.

Gosh, Valerie, your appliance woes should be a reality show. Every week, a new installment of "Appliance Disasters and Solutions."

Deb, it sounds like Keegan is his own dog. Some days he just doesn't want to perform, others he does.

Off to look for that video.

Good morning,

I just finished MM upper body pre-mix. I forgot how nice and basic some of the older workouts are.

Valerie, I have this scary visual of you coming down hard with an ax on the squash. What a picture LOL. Good luck with the stove repair. I hope it's something simple.

Garance, what a nice visit you had with your friends! That cape sounds great. Yes, post the link to the video, I'd like to see it.

Another week of work, it was so nice being off, even the trip was better than working.

Take care,

Yes, that will be something right out of a horror movie, me with an ax and an attitude.
hubbards get a really hard outer shell which is why they keep well. but when you chop it up pieces fly everywhere. it's not something to be done inside. need to hit hard wniough to break it, but not so hard that you go thru to concrete floor or driveway. maybe in a month...

the election business.... I don't want to turn on the TV. I made up my mind ( as I think most people have) long ago and none of the posturing, charges and countercharges mean anything. except for governor. the R is the stronger candidate than the D. the R has decent positions on social issues so still wrestling with that one. Romndy is trying hard to be all things to all people. I don't think he's as conservative as he pretends to be to tow the party line. he intentionally leads people in different directions to appeal to moderates but it just comes across as being, liek has been frequently reported, as stable as an etch-a -sketch. I would never vote for anyone who would insert government control into our personal lives or de-fund PP.

I did Cyclemax yesterday. I am not great at spinning. I have 2 leg speeds, one standing and one sitting and not much change no matter what the resistance. the people in the video do a great variety of speeds but once I stand up I lose ability to move my legs faster. it's something I'll focus on more now that the weather is less hospitable.

Deb, I always liked MM haven't used it in a long time. I like it and the GS series a lot. when I finish STS this time, I'll probably rerun the simpler series

Lynda what a fun mini-vacation. I haven't gotten together with old friends like that in years. I'm the one who lives way off on the west coast making get togethers inconvenient.

Getting ready for the appliance guy between 10-12. Hope this is simple.

Hi Ladies,

It will be a peaceful day at my office today; neither of my co-workers are in. I plan to listen to my favorite music and get a lot of work done without being interrupted all day. On Friday I had to leave early because my co-worker Stacey would not shut up and I just could not take it anymore. She saw that I was working on something, but she would still
keep talking. Ugh!!

Garance, I love to spend time with old friends and it sounds like you had a wonderful time. The cape sounds beautiful.

Valerie, I’m sorry to hear about your troubles with the appliances. You can use the squash to workout before you cut it ;)

Deb, I think Keegan should have been a cat; he has a mind of his own ;)

On Saturday I went to a Vinyasa yoga class and on Sunday I took the Yogaworks class.
I’m a bit sore today and it feels like it will be worst by this evening. Today I will be taking a cardio flow yoga class.

Hi to Joan!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, and Valerie--

This morning I did KCM's Cardio Quick Fix, both workouts (45 min.).

Henri 2 Paw de Deux is easy to find, but this is a link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oh2Tjb7sxOs

Deb, I've been doing the gym styles for upper body for awhile--very simple, very effective. They are like MM.

Josie, I know nothing about yoga. What's Vinyasa yoga? I cannot imagine getting sore from doing yoga. I have always found it kind of boring, but that's probably because I don't know proper form.

DH has a cold and I really hope I don't get it and feel lousy for my big conference.

Good luck on that squash, Valerie! I don't think I would do anything with it--or maybe take a picture.

Horrible night's sleep, I was tossing and turning, until around 1:15, then maybe got a couple of hours sleep, up at 5:00. ugh. Not sure how I will get through today, and we have a wake to go to tonight.

Valerie, so what was the final ending on yesterday's episode of the "Applicances Take Revenge" movie? LOL Yes! Before you massacre the squash post a pic of it here!

Garance, love the video, especially the part about the scale.

Josie, your co-workers have to be pretty dense if they don't "get the message" yet. Who are their managers? don't they ever notice this constant chatter? Do those two ever get any work done?

Off for more caffine, I think I will need to drink a pot before I leave today, **yawns loudly**

Take care,

So, what is the worst possible thing for the oven to do? It's been turned off at the breaker for days now. I turned it back on just before the repair person got here. yes, you can see it coming.......it worked perfectly! heated right up. it does take longer to heat than my old stove but heated fine. did not get stuck at 150 or 180 like it did multiple times last week. it's the same guy from DW issues and he knows I'm not a lunatic. he will see about replacing one of the boards but needed to talk to someone else at the service center whose opinion he trusts about this particular oven. so I made a couple things yesterday.

I'm not sure there's anything worse than an intermittent problem. now I don't trust it even though it seems OK! I did not expect this because DH and I both tried turning it on last week at least (!!)8 times and it never heated past 150-180 after the first and only time it worked when first installed. so I will try cutting power to it a few times over the next day or two, to see if the part that is working part time will fail again.

Deb i have no idea how to post a pic but I'll see if I can do it. I need to think of something to pose next to the squash so you can see scale of the monster.

Yoga can get you sore! I usually don't feel it but if you do Cathe, it's less likely. styles and intensity varies all over the mapy. some yoga is quite passive but the class I do requires strength. when you get into a pose you should be working muscle groups actively in kind of a push-pull fashion. like in down dog, you should be lifting your arms while keeping your shoulders down. we do quite a few planks and side plank position and push up movements. we have the option to go to knees but I usually go straight up and down without sagging... a real pushup. and this is in a very "pushed forward" position. not easy. it all depends on the class and instructor. a good instructor will tailor the moves to fit the abilities of the people in the class. this is by far the best instructor I've found. believe me, she is in shape and strong.

Hi Deb, Josie, and Valerie--

This morning I did High Reps upper body premix (39 min.).

Deb, isn't Henri droll? I like his scorn for the white moron cat. I also love the music.

Made a butternut squash soup this morning from Ina's Back to Basics. It has a little bit of curry and you serve it with roasted coconut flakes and cashews, scallions. It is not loaded with fat (unlike a lot of Ina's dishes). It smelled heavenly, so I'm looking forward to some of it for dinner tonight.

Valerie, I know what you mean. There is absolutely nothing worse than an intermittent problem on a machine. Or an intermittent sound on a car--"What was that? Where is it coming from?? Why won't it do it again?" Figuring out where a sound is coming from is always my job because DH is deaf in one ear.

Josie, I think I would go crazy if I had co-workers like that. I mean, really, you have spoken with her and made yourself clear. Next time just shout, I AM NOT INTERESTED IN YOUR PERSONAL LIFE! GO AWAY!

coincidence ... I just picked out a squash soup to make.... with curry... from the newspaper. I like Ina, watched her on the food network yesterday while exercising. sort of a contradiction in terms, but there's so little on TV that's watchable during the day. she is pretty relaxed about the fat levels, no doubt. most of the things I've tried from her have been good. I have no problem lightening the amount if I think it will be "work" with less.... except for baked goods. I don't mess with those.

so I'm making some brownies ... the oven is not working right again. I keep resetting the temp to 375 but it won't go past 355, and I don't believe the temp is even at 355 , more like 320. and after more than an hour it's still 'preheating". I already called service back .... so my brownies are in the toaster oven. I understand that the company (Kitchen Aid) will not approve replacing expensive boards unless they are sure that's the problem but I'm ready to push this thing off the deck.
Josie, I'm in a mood to help you deal with coworkers!!! Off with their heads!!! ( watched Alice in wonderland last night)

Yep, intermittent problems... you just KNOW they won't act up when you take the car in, or have the appliance guy at your house, but the next day things fail left and right with no audience.

Good morning,

No workout today, hopefully back on track tomorrow. We don;t have class tonight so it should be an early one.

Valerie, that is the perfect reason to insist that they give you a new one. To post a picture here you need to have an account in one of the free websites like picturetrail.com or photobucket.com. I use picture trail and it's really easy to do. Have you uploaded pictures from a digital camera to your hard drive?

Garance, I didn't realize that your DH was deaf in one ear, so is mine. Check out the update by SNM here
http://cathe.com/forum/f115/xtrain-cardio-290868/

Weather is typical fall like, in the 50's and no rain so far this week.

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, and Valerie--

This morning I did the lesser impact premix on Crossfire (56 min.).

Thanks, Deb, for the link. That's good news on the new series, although if you look at some of the pics Cathe has posted, there are some really scary ones. I was never cheerleader material, and in one pic, they are airborne like cheerleaders. Yes, DH is deaf in his left ear, so I always walk on his right side, and it's so habitual that I have difficulty walking on anyone's left side.

Valerie, I would demand a new stove. That's ridiculous. I would think that they would offer this right away rather than making serial service calls and irritating the hell out of a customer who will probably say at some point, "I will never buy a Kitchen Aid stove again."

Very feisty debate last night. I thought Obama definitely won, but I'm partisan. At least the moderator, Candy Crowley, did a good job reining them in.

Good morning,

Still tired, and no energy to get up for a workout. Maybe it's the weather change. ( although it's 55 outside right now).

Garance, I LOL'd when you said about walking on your DH's right side...I do the same thing, only I am on his left side! It is hard when riding in the car, as I am on the "bad ear" side then.

Regarding tha pic where they are jumping in the air...From SNM last night:

"There are two leg workout videos in XTrain. The low impact leg routine is called "XTrain Legs" . The picture you're referring to is from "Cardio Leg Blast"."

I am really looking foward to the new workouts, maybe something to inspire me to get back in a routine. I found out that you can see the FB updates, even without signing in with an account ( which I don't have) so that was interesting. There are only a few pics there that are not posted here, and just about the same comments.

Off to get more coffee...2 more days before the weekend!

I'm returning the oven . haven't talked to the dealer yet. I'm not dealing with umpty- dozen service calls to prove it doesn't work. they left me a message saying KA wants the service rep to come again & work with them over the phone. in a word, no. I want to exchange this for a simpler oven. I had no idea that the fan would run continuously while the oven was on. thought only in convection mode, which I would seldom use. it runs from the second it goes on until way after it's off. there's a simpler whirlpool oven that is cheaper anyway, without all the fancy features. If I hadn't just done the marathon repair thing with the Dw maybe I'd be more congenial but I did, and I'm not.

No Lynda, you're not partisan.... Obama kicked butt. in a presidential, commanding way. I thought romney acted like a frustrated 7 yr old. I am WAY tired of how he is going to "fix" everything just because he organized the Olympics.

Did a big hike yesterday, 7 miles several thousand feet gain, into the first snow of the season. 2-3 feet in some places where it drifted. absolutely gorgeous. lovely. still with lots of fall colors. the day before I did the next STS disk and raised my weights again.

Hi Deb and Valerie--

This morning I did Gym Style back, bis, sh (50 min.).

Deb, maybe you should do some of the premixes from To the Max and Crossfire, or even from the LIS--lots of shorter workouts you probably haven't tried yet. DH is also left-handed, so another reason to always be on the right. That would be difficult in the car, since he usually does all the driving.

Off to Indiana next week for my conference. I am trying to figure out what to wear which also depends on the weather. It looks like 60s most days, which is good.

Valerie, you should definitely just ask for a new stove. I have a Bernina sewing machine, which is computerized and I love, but I'm not sure I would want a stove to be computerized. Love my Thermidor and I do like the convection oven, which I use occasionally for roasts because the heat is so even.

I made the call and told them I needed to swap out this oven for one that works. said I was not going to go thru a bunch of service calls, I've done enough already and there's no reason to expect the next service call would prove any more than the first one since the problem is intermittent. I didn't "ask". no sucking up here. so we will see what they will do. I do not want this oven. they may not have the one I want...less features and somewhat less expensive, until next Wed so I still may be in for some negotiations.

I'm starting to think everything is computerized and when things work well, all is good. but if something starts malfunctioning, forget it.

I'm dealing with another aggravation, the seat belt dinger in my car. I always wear my belt. always.
however there are times to disconnect.... every day to reach the mailbox. I am IN my driveway and the blasted thing dings and dings until I'm ready to shoot it. while parallel parking. dropping mail at the PO. getting something from the back seat as a passenger. it immediately and constantly dings until I am so enraged I will do something violent someday. none of our other cars are like this. I don't want to block the function of the thing but the dinging is absolutely infuriating. the dealer has already said he cannot disconnect it. I will find a way.

Hi Ladies,

I will not be working out today, I’m having stomach problems. I usually go spinning at noon and I’m supposed to go out with the girls tonight, but right now I wish I was at home.

Valerie, I’m glad that you are returning the stove. My DH would have goten us a new one and because of the inconvenience we would have gotten a fridge and a dishwasher too. That is he rolls ;)

Garance, I agree with Valerie, you are not partisan and Obama did kick butt ;)

I have 3 brothers that are republicans and before my family and I go to our voting
pole I send them an e-mail reminding them that I will be canceling their votes. Yes,
I’m evil!!

Hi to Deb and Joan.

Josie

Good morning,

TGIF!!!

Valerie, I agree with you 100%. Enough is enough with the repair appointments, back and forth on the phone etc. It doesn't seem like you are happy with this model anyway, so maybe a good thing that it had problems so you can change to something that you like. Good job on the STS weights etc! My seatbelt does the same thing, if you detach it, the bell rings untl you put it back on. I have to detach to use the drive through ATM...can't reach the screen. But I thought that if you put it in Park, it stops dinging...? only dings if you unhook it and still have your foot on the brake? mmmm...have to try this out again. This is your Subaru right?

Garance , is this a conference where you will be speaking? What is is called?

Josie, hope you are feeling better today, nothing worse than stomach issues when you ae away from home! ugh...

What is everyone doing this weekend?

Take care,
