Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 1/8

Good evening ladies!

This morning I had to try out my Jumpsport bar and I liked it. I did SB advanced bounce followed up with JS 15 minute fat blaster. Total was about 37 minutes. Total calories was 266. Not a huge calorie burner but felt great. It is just as sturdy as my fit tower but it comes into a little more of the matt space which is good for barre. However, I will need to take the top cross bar off when I do power jumps. My arms may be wacking it at times. The bar comes off easy enough so no big deal. My son put it together for me last night. Took about 10 minutes.

Judy...the Rock Bottom rotation scares me! I have reviewed it several times but just can't get myself to try it out! Would love to hear your thoughts when doing it.

Valerie...yup the price is high. We had no choice to replace Bob's screen. Would have cut some fingers if we were to try to use it. It was not a smooth crack. Must so different walking in the elevation.

Deb...we do have a car started but there was so much ice it took forever to heat up and melt! We still have our tree up and light it every night! Will be the end of January before we take it down! My friends crack up.

Carolyn..still have not done PHA or Giant Sets. My son left today but going to contune with barre, JS and jumping. Will do 2nd week of S&S next week. Congrats on the Ipad Pro! I love everything Apple! So far enjoying WW.

Diane Sue...I think Low Impact Sweat 1 is a little gem. Love this one. Wish I would have thought about doing it while my son was here. Would have been perfect. I received a shipping notice for SB's bounce dvd and it will be here tomorrow! Thrilled as I was not expecting it until next week. This will certainly be my Thursday morning workout. I have lived in this house for almost 17 years and I have been in our attic once and probably 15 years ago. Same thing...the rafters are low and nails are everywhere.. To get to it you need to go thru a tiny opening in a closet. We keep nothing up there due to the difficulty getting to it. Everything goes to the basement.

Have a great night all!

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Live Upper Body Express. We are in a nasty wind storm...its been doing this all night. Good that it was too warm to snow or it would have been a blizzard.

Valerie, so after meeting with suppliers, will you be going to the new house and stay close to there for a bit?

Judy, I hope the changes work for you. It would be interesting to find out.

Carolyn, yes the PHA workouts are great. I really like the 2 Live ones she has done. Good that your DR is willing to try to eliminate your blood pressure meds.

Diane Sue, that supplement looks good, I will keep that in mind when mine runs out. Wow, having your mailbox freeze shut sounds awful. Our attic is actually the 3rd floor of the house...it has a full bath, and a side room that is finished with a sky light. The previous owner who was a professor at the university used it as an office. That part is heated, not the rest though. The other side is the attic, all unfinished, cold and drafty, but you can stand up in it.

Lori, nice that the bar works well. Yes, some people here keep their outdoor Christmas lights on through January too. You sound like the last owner's wife....they lived in our house for 4 years and she never went into the basement....she was afraid to because it is all small rooms and kind of creepy. They actually installed water outlets in the breakfast nook in the kitchen and put the washer and dryer in there so she never had to go in the basement. That was the first thing we did we moved in....got rid of all those pipes etc. So funny how everyone looks at things differently.

A workout, then going to John's office to "train" on doing the receptionist's job for about 6 weeks. only on Wednesdays. The person that has the job is going to Florida. Her husband rented a condo down there, ( against her wishes I guess). She is going but did not want to give up her job, so my nice husband asked me to fill in for her. :).

Stay warm,

Deb we probably won't come back for months depends on how fast it gets done. Since we are so far away we have to trust the builder to do what we picked out and notify us if there are issues. He has built homes for people he's never met . We are not doing anything exotic .we are thinking about resale And will not live here year round so simple is best. The plumbing person was the only guy we didn't like. The cabinet person was GREAT! That helped get things going smoothly. We had appts with each and spent a few hours on site. Meeting builder this am at his office but it snowed so it might be a nasty drive. Not too far.

Lori the iPad works fine with no sharp edges. So will let it slide for a bit. Our basement is a daylight one and a nice area. Almost like anoyther house, workout room is there , extra bath and shower. And dh workbench planting table. It's about 1500 sq ft. We sleep down there in summer if it's hot. We partially finished it so it has drywall up in much of it. Two rooms completely finished. The attiC Is not accessible and has no floor so can't walk up there.

Yep this will be a no workout trip. It takes a long time to adjust to altitude. We are pretty good now but space is not good and we have been worn out from travel and now will head home tomorrow Roads won't be as good as the trip here.

Today I did KCM's Cardio Quick Fix, both workouts for 44 minutes. I usually do workout one so this was a nice change.

Our Christmas decorations are not put away yet. They are boxed up but neither of us wants to venture up to the attic. As others have described, it is a difficult space to maneuver. I think we might work on storing them in the garage.

Lori, I feel the same way about the Rock Bottoms rotation--it's scary! I have never been tempted to do it.

Judy, one of the things I like about the rotations is that I don't have to think about what to do each day. If I get bored I can easily make substitutions.

Have a great afternoon.

Today I did Strong and Sweaty Cycle Sweat Premix 2, 5 missing. 39 minutes, 273 calories, 8.67 mles. These must have been the longer segments because the last premix I did was the shortest and it had 4 missing. I have sort of a dread of this workout. There are an awful lot of climbs in it to me and they seem to go on forever lie some sort of torture. Then my Fit Bit was giving me a way low heart rate. 91 when I was huffing and puffing and figured it hadn't got to its 15 minutes of recognizing what I am doing or something. I really do not have a clue. I used MMF, Cathe's workout manager and my Calories burned calculator and took the low end from those because I am sure Fit Bit was wrong. That being said, my resting heart rate was 59 before I started. That is not abnormal though. I then did SS PHA mish mosh lower body split original order done 3 times, 27 minutes (took me a bit to decide what I could use so a couple of minutes longer) I did not do the dead lifts. I wore 5# ankle weights while doing the other exercises and instead of deadlifts I did leg curls 12 reps on each leg standing, 164 calories. Total time 69 minutes, 437 calories I swear every time I think that we have finally fixed things something breaks. Now my drier is squealing. Even with no clothes in it. I imagine it is the belt and/or the pulleys. I don't know if I should continue to use it or wait till we can get the parts and fix it. I will be hanging laundry around the bathroom I guess. Making a new salad from Whole 30 today for family Wednesday dinner. It has roasted beets, avocado, and oranges in it. I roasted the beets last night. I am going to try to come up with at least one pan of healthier enchiladas. My husband has lost 70 lbs now and wants to keep up till his goal. Hopefully sometime around next month.

Lorie, is the bar not easy to take off and on?? Mine just goes into two metal spaces that can fold in under the rebounder or fold out to snap the bar into. I just keep the bar leaned up against the wall for if I want to use it. I think it come apart at the top but I would probably spear myself on one of the poles left sticking up. We have those tiny holes in the closet upstairs and bedroom closet downstairs. We have never tried to get through them. I always figured they were for attic insulation access or something. The small space over the garage does actually have a ladder that folds down. I have been up there a couple of times to help my husband but it is unpleasant. We would like to have one of the grandsons come and help pull the stuff all down so we can go through it and get rid of more stuff and label the containers. I am still missing Christmas stuff. We have a rope light cross somewhere and some things like a wreath that my granddaughters and I made out of ribbon, a nativity set that was hand painted, and a fourth of July Santa figure just to name a few things that I keep looking for.

Deb, it is windy here today but the weather says it is supposed to be 75 today :O Friday it is supposed to be freezing rain. I went outside to try to sweep some leaves off the doorstep so the wouldn't keep coming in the house. It was pretty useless. They kept blowing out of the dust pan and back on the doorstep. We have friends that have an upstairs office and bath with a door that goes into the attic from that floor. That would be so much more convenient. That is nice that your husband is making sure his receptionist gets to keep her job. Was it for a vacation? 6 weeks seems like a long vacation to me. Do you have to handle the insurance an billing too? Going into basements never bothered me. My dad had treacherously steep concrete steps into his that always worried me for his sake. The only ones I don't like are unfinished ones and dirt cellars full of rodents that my mom kept canned goods in.

Valerie, I hope things go smoothly and get done on your vacation home so that you can enjoy it. Your basement space sounds nice.

Carolyn, I wish that I had KCM cardio quick fix. I am getting quite the list of workouts that I want. It is much nicer to have the Christmas stuff some where convenient. My husband and I were talking about how most of the stuff in the attics of our homes has been stuff we never look at till the next time we move. Wondering why we keep it. We had to clear out a lot of stuff from the attic when we moved here because the family of the man that passed away that lived here left his stuff. He had lights and Christmas stuff up there. Bar ware. Just a bunch of junk for the most part.

Good evening ladies!

This morning it was all about SB. Started out with Arm Target with No Planks, then Bis and Tris, then Upper Back Thigh than last Lower Body Band Target. 40 minutes (I cut out some of the warm ups and stretches, didn't need to do them on every section) calories 205. My new Bounce dvd came in. Wanted to do it tomorrow but it will have to wait till Friday. Will be reviewing it tonight. I have a Board meeting tomorrow so will be going in early. Forgot that when I mentioned doing this dvd the other day.

Deb...that is a great upper body workout. It was so windy here yesterday too! And in the 50's today. Crazy weather. Haha funny she never went into the basement.

Valerie...your basement sounds nice. Ours is finished with windows but small window and yes it is naturally cool in the summer! We have baseboard heat and a fireplace for the winter which is nice too. So exciting building a summer home. The way you two workout a week off may be nice.

Diane Sue...after reading your post about the Sweat Cycle I am really glad now I passed on this one. So fustrating when we depend on our technology and it fails us. Makes my blood boil at times. Yes the Jumpsport barre is not easily removed. It actually replaces 2 of the legs. The top portion comes off easily enough. I thought about that too losing my balance. It hasn't happened yet so hoping it never does!!

Carolyn...great doing both workouts. Love when I so more that the usual. Glad I am not the only one feeling that way about Rock Bottom!

Have a great night all!

Lori, that is interesting that the bar takes the place of legs. I am sure that makes it more sturdy. The legs on my rebounder have springs in them and they can turn and be folded in so the rebounder is flat. I can also fold the whole thing in half for storage. So it is a big flat half circle. I have only done that once. It is suggested that two people do it because you are stretching springs and could get hurt. It is not easy to fold. I just did the legs and put it up against the wall or took it in the back of my car on trips. Two of the legs have the turning deals to put the bar into. Your bar is set back a little more, right? That probably is a bit better. It wouldn't work for me with the URX-MT workouts where you are bouncing off and on the rebounder to the floor.
I keep hoping that one of those Cycle Sweat premixes had more of the endurance rides and less of the long hill climbs. I have done premix one and two so far. There are not many of the short ones. The Extreme ones would be way to long for my liking.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday. Probably none today. I was invited to the dog club's board of directors meeting, and it went on until almost 10:30. By the time we got home, it was 11:00 and I couldn't sleep. Then up at 4:30...I am exhausted. It's 57 degrees here right now...unbelievable for January.

Valerie, I can see why you wouldn't be going back and forth to check on the house progress...that ride is a killer! Any reason you picked that area to build? There must be some things there that are attractive to want to spend a lot of time there.

Carolyn, KCM's workouts are just a refreshing change aren't they?

Diane Sue, will your husband be the one to fix the dryer? That salad sounds great. I have never had roasted beets. The receptionist requested this as her husband and she bought this condo ( I guess)...and he really wanted to be in Florida for the winter. Not really a vacation, she is not being paid, but John likes her and wants her back when they return. Since it is only 1 day a week, I don't mind. The other days are being covered by the other receptionist and other staff.

Judy, missed your post about Sweat Cycle...is there something wrong with it? My blood work results were posted on the DR's web site, (private access of course!) and my overall cholesterol went down by 56 points! HDL and LDL improved as well. I guess it is all because of losing 17 pounds and eliminating sugar and recently all gluten. Makes for boring meals though. :)

Lori, great workouts!

Not sure what is up for today, a nap later I am positive.

Take care,

Today I did Cardio Slam with Modifications, 50 minutes, 338 calories. I also did the Barre Amped bonus stretch, 7 minutes, 16 calories. I got up early and went to the store to get my husband some medicine. He was sick again all night with the GI bug again. I am wondering if it was something he ate at work yesterday. I didn't get much sleep but have pushed through the workout and getting Gertie's bath done and baths scrubbed down. I have let so many things go since the surgery.

Deb, I understand being exhausted. It was beautiful here yesterday but cold this morning. The ice storms are supposed to hit around midnight. This time I wrapped the beets in foil after rubbing with oil and pierced them when roasting. I had to be careful when opening the foil so beet juice didn't run out all over. They say not to cut off all of the stems because the beets will lose more of their moisture. The skin comes off easily after roasting. The salad was good. I ordered a drier repair kit last night that has the belt, pulleys, and rollers. My son is going to come over tomorrow evening and him and my husband will fix the drier. Or at least try to. I am pretty sure that is what is wrong with it because it is still heating. I guess your husband's receptionist's husband does not work? I can understand if you have a vacation spot where it is warm, wanting to use it. He probably should have discussed this more with his wife though.

Hi Everyone,
Today I did Total Body Giant Sets again. I followed that with a short lower body stretch. This might be my last workout this week. Tomorrow we will be in the car all day driving to North Carolina. We are going to stay with the grandchildren while my daughter is out of town. I should be able to work out when they are in school but will have to see how the weekend goes.

Diane Sue, that's an amazing weight loss for your husband. Has he been trying or just following your lead? My husband follows my eating habits at home but not so much when he is away. We did WW together when we could attend the same meeting. He still needs to lose about 15 pounds.

Deb, I hope you are able to get that nap. I am not good for much when I don't get enough sleep.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Carolyn, my husband is the one who decided to lose the weight. I offer help with food choices that I know he can stick with. He does well at work and uses the Tread Climber every morning. He added some weight work as well. He started with light dumbbells using my 10's doing hundred reps then increased to 15's and now 20's. He is not really wanting to bulk just add some strength and lean muscle to help with the weight loss. He is much better than I am because he can set his mind to something and stick with it. He is not tempted. He has taken an occasional cheat day. Thanksgiving was a cheat day but he still kept it to one piece of pie and light on filling the plate skipping the bread.

Good evening ladies,

No workout today was out the door at 6:10am and home at 6pm. I am tired! Tomorrow going to try to do the new SB dvd. I may need to sleep in though so the dvd may have to wait. Today was a lot of running around in addition to being a long day. Right now I am at 12,750 steps. So my thinking is today I may not have done a workout but I was very active!

Diane Sue...I bought the foldable jumpsport thinking I could easily take to the Cape when we go in August but after having it a while it really is not that portable. We'll see. Congrats on Cardio Slam!!! Hope your husband has a better night.

Deb...wow have you really lost 17 lbs? All do to the heartburn issue? Did not realize it was that much. Very nice you are helping your husband out while his receptionist is away. Been meaning to tell you GiGi loves the dog toy you made for her. We play tug of war with it and the one you made for Chester pretty much every night.

Carolyn...enjoy your grandchildren! How long is the drive? So far still enjoying WW.

Have a good night all..heading off to bed soon and happy to do so!

Good morning,

No workout yesterday. We went again to the reservation to get John's fishing license renewed, (the place where we got caught in the lake effect storm last week) but yesterday it was all fog. At lease we got a nice breakfast out of it.

Diane, how do you like Cardio Slam with the modifications? Good that you have people that can fix things. Yes, the receptionist's husband is retired.

Carolyn, bring a band and Travel Fit. I wish I could get John interested in losing weight, or at least doing some sort of exercise. He is tired all the time and I think it is tied to his diet.

Lori, I think you did enough with those steps and the long day so you deserve a couple of rest days! Glad Gigi likes the toys. I find them pretty useful, too, and almost indestructible. Yes, the weight loss is due to the food restrictions I have been trying.

A workout, call with the nutritionist, and meeting my friend for lunch...

Take care,

Lori, that is plenty of steps I would think that a workout is not required. Hopefully it is not too hard to fold and transport your jump Sport in August. Mine is doable , but I wouldn't try again on my own. Even opening it from the folded position took care doing.

Deb, it looks like getting that license is not that easy. I guess they don't do it online? At least you can look at it as an outing and a meal which is probably enjoyable. I think cardio slam with the modifications is okay. Some places I add a bit more to the movement pattern or I wouldn't raise my heart rate much. Also I have to do something else over the plank jacks and burpees which seem to have crept into a lot of the low impact workouts. Those are a good heart rate elevator though. The just stepping side to side does not do much.

Hi Everyone,

Tuesday I did PHA Training and added the leg drills from Lower Body Blast; Wednesday I did a Cycle Sweat Timesaver Premix and the S & S Bonus Abs; Yesterday I did Total Body Giant Sets, Lower Body Premix, with the floor work and abs from Pure Strength Legs. I think I will be taking a few days off of weights. I strained something in my upper back/neck. I'm not sure how I did it. I'm going to the chiropractor today and hoping that an adjustment will help.

Deb-that's great about your cholesterol! I bet your doctor was happy with that result! Cycle Sweat has a lot of standing and very little rest. I couldn't do all of the standing that they did. I've been spoiled by Spinervals, which for the most part, do not have extended periods of standing. I would agree with Diane Sue, there is a dread factor and it almost seems like torture. My favorite Cathe cycle workout is Ride from XTrain.

Lori-That is a long day! With that many steps, I would say you got a workout in.

Carolyn-KCM workouts are a nice change of pace. I have Cardio Quick Fix, but I've only done it once. Maybe I'll try it again this weekend.

Valerie-I hope you are having a good trip home.

We are back after an almost 12 hr drive. Snowy, icy parts but overall just long. And at about the 9 hour mark the passenger air bag seatbelt chimes started going off for no reason. Just driving and....Ding ding ding ding etc about 100 times!!!

Of course when you get the manual there is no listing for "Airbag ". It is listed under "srs". airbag. So once again it takes forever to find a basic entry. Decided must have been something in the seat behind, bumping against back of the front seat. moving things stopped the noise. Cross eyed tired when we got home and first thing I see is a puddle of water in front of the refer. Yep it died and I got to throw out most of the freezer contents. Or move them to the garage appliances that luckily keep on working. Really did not need that!!..... so already had 2000 things to do tomorrow and now need to buy a refrigerator and try to get delivered SOON. Now it's 3 am and I can't sleep

Deb that is an amazing weight loss. But are you getting any closer to an explanation for what is going?

I'm reading the thread but have no energy to commment on everyone else's issues ( I got enough of my own!) ...no workouts done either. Sorry but I am. exhausted! Hopefully. We can get to dull normal in a few days.
-----------------------
7 am and feeling better. just hope it doesn't take too long to get a new frig delivered. old one is DOA, 15 yrs old. my garage frig is a lot older and keeps on going.

This is odd, I thought cycle sweat workout was less intense than the other rides. Judy I think the xtrain one is my favorite too, although for me, they kind of run together. on the cycle sweat, I miss the countdown timer.
Deb, I was thinking you bought an exercise bike for John to use at home. maybe I'm remembering wrong, I know you have outdoor bikes but this is not the season for them. congrats too on dropping the cholesterol. I will try to do a spin later today, even a premix. the place we stayed was a little tight on space, and we were both exhausted by the drive and the decisions, and had sleep issues. altitude change is bothersome in a lot of ways.
We picked the Yellowstone area because we like to hike, mt bike, and wildlife watch around there. we always go back. it is much less crowded than where we live now, climate is different. we are still going to live here and there part time. will see how it works out. we are building a house we think would resell easily if this doesn't work for us. there are a lot of people who "winter" somewhere else.

we bought a new fridge this morning, it should come tomorrow. a whirlpool side by side. would love a French door but my island is too close to where the fridge opens and the bottom freezer drawer would be trouble. It is really inconvenient now with an old fridge in the garage, but that's better than none at all. it figures it would die when no one was here. luckily we'd turned off the water so the ice maker leaked only the ice cubes and no more water was pulled in.

I have tried to like roasted beets and think they are so-so. DH thinks they are awful. I l;ike small pieces of beet on a green salad and I think I might like it with oranges and avocados but never tried it. beet juice is a huge stain waiting to happen. DH didn't like the turnips I made either and I tried several ways. I'm working on Brussels sprouts now. found a couple ways I like. root vegies are a challenge for me and things I liked, DH didn't like.
Carolyn have a good trip! sitting and driving all day is harder than working out.

I really wasn't feeling a workout this morning, but pushed myself to do Ice Low Impact Sweat workout 2, 28 minutes, 207 calories. I still have to modify those things like the dumbbell swings etc.. I hold a dumbbell for some added lower body intensity but there is no way I am swinging weights up in the air. I spent most of the morning perusing bras on the internet. I went to Wacoal's website and got their measurement sizing. I have been measuring routinely and things have not changed in the last couple of weeks so I think I am good. I am tired of this miserable surgery bra that makes me itchy. It is also getting loose and moves around on me since it is long line. Amazon had some excellent prices on them so I ordered two different Wacoal bras. One is like the one I purchased before at the store for 60 dollars. It does not fit now. So when I saw it was on sale at Amazon for 26 dollars I ordered but it is on back order till the 24th. So, I found another style that is wireless that I got for 16.51. I don't know why they have marked them down so much. Maybe they are last seasons bras or something. Dillards used to do that and I had the sales person tell me the only difference in the two bras was one was from last season and they mark them down. Anyway I had looked at a bra website and they had a big sale on Wacoal with some up to 70% off. and others 50% off. So, it just may have to do with the company. Their are differences in sizing because some companies use European sizing and UK sizing. Wacoal is US sizing. I need to find some new sports bras. Anyway between that and dealing with my Pay Pal account that would not let me update without calling them, which meant dealing with their computerized system first took time. I think I am coming down with a cold :(

Judy, I like Pedal Power first and Ride is my second choice. I hardly ever get out Cycle Max. I think Cycle Sweat will only be used with the premix unless I feel like a real torture session. The first time I did it and did the whole thing I came out with low back and hip pain the next day. I didn't feel like I tightened the resistance too much, but I did not realize how long and many times they were going to up the resistance or maybe I would have done less tension on the flywheel. I hope that you get some relief with the chiropractor.

Valerie, I am glad to hear you made it back safely. That is crazy with the airbag chimes. My car has codes for every warning and I have to get the book out and see what the numbers mean. I think it is 87 means that I need to change the oil. It is a bit annoying to say the least. What a miserable thing to come home to after a long trip. Hopefully your refrigerator is delivered soon. I like the countdown timer on the cycle workouts too. It helps to push through knowing how much longer you have for that combo.
I have spiralized parsnips and fried them into crisps to top burgers and other dishes and like them that way. I keep finding more recipes for them. I am trying to get back into eating more veggies. For some reason I have allowed my eating to become more fat and protein which needs to be adjusted. I used to eat huge dishes of mixed veggie combos with a little chicken or something added for some protein.

Good evening ladies!

No workout today. I really needed to sleep in. I walked up and down the stairs yesterday one too many times.

Diane Sue...I agree about low impact and plank jacks. I see them a lot. That's a great price on those bras. Sometimes things are marked down also just because a new color came out. Works for me at times. How many weeks now since your surgery?

Deb...glad you were able to get the license renewed. Oh well, some fog but not too much is better than ice and snow. Glad you had a nice lunch. Bob goes up and down with his weight. Right now he is in diet mode.

Judy...you did some great workouts. You just made me feel really lazy!! Lol! Hope the adjustment works and you are feeling better.

Valerie...your ride home sounded stressfull. With both the elements and then the airbag. Then coming home to the dead fridge! What a mess to come home too. Your 2nd home sounds like it is in such a lovely area. Cycle Max is my least favorite of her cycle workouts. I have all except the most recent. I do seem to enjoy all of her live ones.

No plans for the weekend. My office is open Monday but my husband is off. :(

Good morning,

No workout yesterday. Not a good day, I did meet my friend for an early lunch, I needed to get out of the house.

Diane Sue, no online access for the license. This is a license to fish on the Indian reservation out that way...you have to go to one of their stores to get it. When is your Dr follow up again? Maybe good time to take a rest day. Nice that you found those bras and at a nice discount!

Judy, hope your neck/upper back is just a muscle pull. Did the chiropractor help? I see the DR on Monday for my physical, I am sure he will be pleased about the blood work numbers, but not pleased when I speak to him about the other situation that he has not helped me with. I can see why you would have a dread factor with Cycle Sweat.

Valerie, oh that is awful that you had to come home to that! :(. Good that you were able to purchase one right away. I would never think to turn off the water to the ice maker when away...very good thinking when you have an older frig. You must have emptied the ice container in the frig as well Smart. No better explanation for my issue.

Lori, yesterday seemed to be a good rest day for a lot of us. :). Too bad about having to work on Monday. That was not a holiday for us either when I was working.

Agility class this morning, and HouseMax later....

Take care,
