Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 1/30/11

Got it Lynda! thank you. wowee, does that sound rich!. I guess you don't NEED frosting! Maybe for valentines day. I won't be eating much if I intend to stay on the diet. more later

Had a physical today, and all OK. Haven't lost any weight according to their scale, last weighed november or so. same. I have however lost an inch in height over the last 5 or so years. used to be 5' 2"1/2, now 5' 1" 1/2. bummer. guess the yoga isn't stretching out my spine like I hoped. my bone scans have been good so must be soft tissue in vertebrae losing thickness.
Did disk 35, plyo legs, after some wood chopping for an hour this morning. I've been hungry all night every night but nothing is changing. Geez, I hate waking up with my stomach growling. I drink some water.

Hope you are all coping with the snow, ice, and the aftermath.

Good morning,

I am so glad this week is almost over. One more day. Tomorrow is our awards banquet for the dog club. Keegan will be getting 2 awards, for getting 2 titles in obedience this past year, The little smartie.

Valerie, glad that alarm was a false one. Once, we went to the store for ice cream, it's just a few blocks away, and when we got back there were fire trucks, emt's, police, and my brother going into our house! Apparntly our alarm system had sent a medical emergency alarm out, and when that happens, the alarm company just sends out emt's etc. They called my brother since he is first on the list to be called, so that he could open the door, or they were prepared to break it down.. it was kind of funny...here we walk up with ice cream .."hey, what' going on?"....
Glad your physical went well. I am shrinking too. I used to be 5'41/2, now am 5"3,

Garance, LOL at Max and his antics. He is herding you and your car up the hill! Did you ever read the Jon Katz books I had mentioned? Not novels, his true stories. I think you and your DH would get into these, especially now that you have Max.

Hi to Joan, Josie & Cathy!

Take care,

Deb, did you feel stupid or what?! At least all we got was a sheriff take a look and leave us a warning about the fine if it happens again. Did you get a fine or the threat of one?

DH ( has)made fun of me for turning on the phone when we leave. he used to think I should turn the phone only when I'm expecting a call. seemed idiotic to me, so I'd leave it on anyway. Why pay for cell service if the phone is off all the time ? I've been saying that the most likely time for us to be contacted is right after we leave after setting the alarm. so I turned out to be right, but our neighbors were inconvenienced. It was only 5-10 minutes before I realized I hadn't turned the phone on, and then managed to turn it on in the one "dead" spot right outside town. If it was beeping, I never heard it. the volume button can get pushed very easily and get inaudible.

I keep phone, keys, ID,credit card, cash in a tiny zip top bag in the glove box that goes in my backpack or bikepack. never leave in the car at trailheads. too easy to get ripped off. where we parked was WAY out of cell phone service area so I didn't turn it back on until lunch when we were high enough to be back in a service area. I think my "system" is good except for the strange series of small unlikely errors.

Trailhead car break ins are a big problem here. It's happened to us, and we've come across the aftermath of when it's happened to others. Anyway, I reset the phone so a voicemail will beep every 2 min as long as we're in cell service range.

You guys are making me think about getting a dog again! but I will resist..... Love the little guys but we go to "no dog" areas too much of the time.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Squeeze (56 min.).

We don't even lock our doors here. Of course, DH is pretty much around a lot of the time. We lock up when we take off to the shore, but our neighbor is here every day to feed animals. For a couple years, when Jane Swift was governor and living next door, the state police were parked at the fork of our two driveways at all times. She is still there, but, obviously, not governor anymore. Her husband has a big riding stable next to us. Max gets very riled up if the horses get loose and starts trying to herd them back into their pasture and get out of his. He really is funny. The other thing that seems to defy his sense of order is when one of the heifers is in heat and there's a lot of efforts by the young steers to reclaim their lost bullhood, to put it delicately. It seems to infuriate his sense of rectitude and he starts barking and tries to break it up.

Everyone ready for Superbowl Sunday? I'm making my chili tomorrow and getting the deep fryer out for wings. Made my cake this morning.

I'm shrinking too, darn it.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Hi Ladies,

The workout is going great! I will post the workout in more detail later or on the weekend. I will be spinning tomorrow and riding 40 miles on Sunday. I feel stronger
and have lost 3 pounds so far, but my clothes feel a lot looser than 4 pounds.

Today is the last day of our 4th week. The nutritionist gave us a web-site where we need to track our food for 3 week days and 1 weekend day. Here it is in case you want to try it out. WWW.NAT.UIUC.EDU.

I also feel shorter. I guess all tose years pounding the pavement when I was a marathon runner made me shorter. I used to be 5'6" and not I feel like I'm 5'5". I feel very short when I stand next to my husband who is 6'1".

Josie

DH reminded me that peoples measured height changes a lot depending on who's doing the measuring and how hard they push down on the top of your head/hair. I made the med ass't repeat it when she said what it was. I always thought I was 5'3" but that's a long time ago and maybe THAT was incorrect. I definitely used to have a taller hair style! and I know people lose a little vertebral cushion and their height drops a bit. at least it's not compression fractures. glad I'm not the only one.

Josie, I want to look at your diet plan. I'm considering weight watchers if I don't see something soon. I think my pants are looser but the scale isn't showing changes. I've definitely been doing the physical work.
I was on weight watchers long ago but ( at that time) they didn't accomodate people who did a lot of exercise. I was (in theory) supposed to eat the same as the people who walked around the block once a day while I was running daily and hiking a lot. I was so hungry I couldn't stand it and didn't last long. Plus they wanted us to eat liver weekly. gaack. I think that's not required anymore.

we used to be relaxed about locking doors etc. all it takes is a few punk meth heads to change your mind. mostly not professional burglars, but crimes of opportunity, will take anything to sell. Our houses are set back from the street and far apart ( 5 acres) so we decided on an alarm system a couple years ago. especially when we're gone for a week or two it's great for peace of mind.

Valerie,

As soon as I get more information regarding nutrition I will share it with all of you.

Josie

Good evening all,

We only got 1/2 inch ice, 4 inches of sleet and then 2-3 inches of snow. The client that just left was a little more west and got 18 inches.

I have had a headache for the last week and it finally dawned on me I need new glasses. I seldom get headaches. It shouldn't have taken that long to figure it out. But these pains make it hard to think. It also means I'm not getting much work done. I can get in on Monday but it takes 2-3 weeks to make my glasses since I am blind:). It is tough picking out glasses since I can't see what I look like. I'm not sure I like the new shapes. I tried them on today because I won't have time Monday.

I'm holding strong and not asking for the cake recipe because it sounds too good. I ate way too much for my birthday. I also found that each time we have a snow storm I eat too much. I can't eat enough to not feel hungry. As soon as the storm was over I went back to normal.

Hi,

Nothing but agility class this moring, and the dog club awards dinner tonight. I was really looking forward to it this morning, but now just wish I could stay home and sleep. Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Stay warm,

Split wood and moved ti most of the morning, nothing too bad. but uit used to get me really sore, but since STS, no soreness to speak of. not that splitting wood has any great value to most people! it's kinda fun and definitely a different workout.
