Good morning,

Getting us started. The plan is to do one of the Flex Train premixes in a bit.

I went shopping with my cousin yesterday, then took her out to a belated birthday lunch. we were running late and it was terrible weather for driving so we ran into the Applebee's right at the mall. It was not worth the calories :(

It is only 5 degrees here I plan on staying in and doing HouseMax today.

What is everyone else up to?

Good morning ladies!

Yesterday I did Athletic Training. Been a while for this one and it is one I really enjoy.

Took chester to Vet yesterday and needed to leave him for a few hours. He is such a large energitic dog they need to sedate him for xrays. They were amazed that I have no problem walking him. Xrays shows extensive arthitis in his ankle. Dr. has sent xray to radiologist for a 2nd opinion. He has never injured this ankle and odd that there is so much and it has not bothered him till now. So to be sure that is all it is she sent the xray for a 2nd read. Once we know then the appropriate meds will be prescribed. If arthitic then she wants me to keep our walks up and get him swimming as much as possible. Poor Chester..he was in so much pain when we got home from all the poking and stretching. Never seen him that bad off. Broke my heart.

Deb...I am not a fan of Applebees. Years ago we enjoyed it but have not had a great experience there the last couple of times we went so we never go now.

We have no plans today. 12 degrees here! Have a great day all.

I'm back but not time for details now. we are continuing to have spring like weather and are going mt biking in the mountains! this morning. there is no snow . we will be hurting this summer if this doesn't turn around soon.

Good Morning!

Lori-I'm sorry about Chester :( Poor guy, I hope the vet can give him some medicine and that he will be feeling better soon.
I am not an Applebee's fan either. We have had a few family dinners there, since there is one close to FIL's, and SIL likes it but personally it's not my first choice.

It's 10 degrees with -3 wind chill and snowing. I am planning on an extended Muscle Endurance today.

Hi to Deb, Lynda, Valerie & Josie!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did RK (55:16).

I received my DVD from Collagevideo yesterday. That is really quick service. I will have to preview it and maybe do tomorrow.

Deb, the KCM workouts don't interest me because I don't have a treadmill or bike, and I have so many of Cathe's weight workouts including S&H that I really don't want anymore. I was feeling guilty looking at my dvd library the other day. I don't have any virgins, but I certainly have ones that I have barely used--like gym style legs. On August: Osage County, at the end of the film, all of the daughters leave on bad terms. The middle one is told that she has been having sex with her half-brother when she thought he was just a cousin (as if that isn't bad enough!) and this may well prevent her from leaving with him to start a new life in NYC; the youngest leaves with her new fiancé, who has been married 3 times already and their sudden departure is provoked by his sexual advances to the oldest daughter's (Barbara played by Julia Roberts) 14-year-old daughter. The mother has more or less admitted that she could have prevented her husband/their father from committing suicide if she had not gone to the bank and greedily taken the money out of a safe deposit box and instead gone to the motel where she knew he was staying to stop him. Barbara's husband and daughter leave separately on bad terms with her--probably a divorce--and Barbara and her mother Violet have one last fight before Barbara drives off as well. This leaves the mother with a Native American housekeeper/caretaker (someone Violet has repeatedly insulted with ethnic slurs) as she suffers from mouth cancer and drug addiction. I can't think of a messier, less resolved ending, but maybe they changed the play?

Well, I am totally tired of winter. I just want it to go away, but it looks like we are in for another bout of polar vortex.

I haven't been to an Applebee's for years--maybe when we were doing the college tour for our sons. I thought it was not too bad, but the choices were always so calorie rich. We are going out to dinner tonight at Mezze's again. No news on the comfort Sunday meal, but this is always good.

Lori, ahh, that's too bad about Chester. Maybe some good meds will help.

Lori so sorry chester is having problems. too bad dogs get arthritis just like people! Hope meds help him. so unfair that they get old so quickly.

we did our planned mt bike today and it was cold but very nice. sunny, a30-32 degrees but warmer in the sun. it's a road in process of being reopened after washing out a couple places close to 10 years ago. then a bunch of legal wrangling that is finally resolved. meantime the road has been open to foot, bike or horse traffic. we did about 22 miles in 4 hours, to the end of it. the last few miles look more like a trail while the beginning is more well trodden. it was uphill one way and downhill on the return but wow, the windchill on the return. we've ridden it before, but never in Jan. I wasn't really warm enough but not too bad. my hands froze after eating lunch and then rolling downhill on the way back.

we ate at applebees a few months ago. it was OK. needed a reasonably priced dinner after flying to south lake Tahoe and it was convenient and sort of what we wanted. no challenges, just basic food in a not too loud atmosphere. fine dining it is not..... but better than fast food.

I didn't read last weeks thread yet so I'm not up to date.

Welcome to Arctic Snow country!

It's coming down steadily, driving to work will be fun.

Lori. I hope they find something to ease Chester's pain. I think they have given Rimadyl (sp?) or something like that? I am resending the spreadsheet with Flex Train to you...when I printed mine to do it yesterday I found that the second page didn't print, or something else was wrong...so you should get it an e-mail from me with a new attachment. I have other Cathe sheets as well if you want more...

Valerie, mountain biking should be done in the mountains! LOL...no snow? so you will have a dry summer?

Garance, yes, now I remember the end of the play...it was pretty much like you described. I guess I am addicted to KCM's because of the 30 minute factor. I sold a lot of unused DVD's on Ebay, so right now I don't feel too guilty about buying a couple more..:).

Hi to Josie & Judy,

Stay warm and safe driving for those that have to go out in this!

mt biking can be done just about anywhere but usually there is snow, and lots of it, on much of the length of this road, so ordinarily it would be a spring or fall ride.
It's a 22 mile road and drivable to 11.5 or so where it's gated for repair. we are having a close to zero ski season. the highest areas have a little snow and they creatively move it around to stay open. the melting snow in spring and summer provides water for summer. the weather may change to more normal this week with rain returning. the whole west is in a drought some parts worse than others. we are ' moderate" here. California is in a severe drought that will really affect lives this year if it doesn't turn around. already there are water restrictions.... I expect their downhill ski areas are not doing well either.

anyway, if we can't xc ski , we will ride! It was a heck of a workout somewhat because of freezing temps. hard to judge the right layers as you don't want to sweat if possible, but still stay warm.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Ballet Physique (66 min.). A very good lower body workout, but not much on upper body, so I will just rotate this in with GG and LLA on Mondays.

Deb, my problem with KCM's 30 min. workouts is that they are really only about 20 min. so I usually do her premix that combines both, and that ends up being about 45 min. I know what you mean, though, about length. Ballet Physique was a bit too long and I might skip the upper body section, which doesn't challenge me. It is snowing here again, but just these light clippers, followed by an Artic blast again tomorrow. I am not looking forward to 0 temps again.

Dinner was really yummy last night. Pierogi for the first course on a bed of greens and veal bratwurst as a second course with red cabbage on the side.

Valerie, I have heard about the drought in California. Apparently the central valley where a lot of food is grown is feeling the impact, and that means we all will with food (and wine!)prices next year.

Hi to Josie, Lori, and Judy!

Good afternoon ladies!

Slept in this morning for no reason. I actually slept well last night and when I woke at 4:45AM decided to keep sleeping!

Tonight is suppose to be ches/shoulders/tris but I did a really intense heavy bag workout yesterday so giving my arms a rest and will do tomorrows workout which is plyo legs subbed in for P90x Plyometrics. Wow this is hard keeping track of what is what. Out of us girls doing this p90x rotation 2 have dropped off already. 3 of us are still going. I may recommend switching to p90x3 if another drops. These are only 30 minute workouts and more bearable. I think they may stick to them.

Deb...I enjoy doing 30 minute or less workouts in the morning. Evenings I try and keep to about 45 minutes. Weekends I will easily do 90 minutes to 2 hours! I also saw the play Osage a few years back. It was extremely long. I may wait for this one to come to DVD.

Lynda, I like Cathe's Barre workout. Only have done it a couple of times though. Just never think of it I guess.

Valerie...I love how active you and your husband are and always doing these kind of trips. I enjoy reading about them.

Josie...I liked the body pimp too! Made me chuckle!

Hi to Judy!

My brother with the pancreas issue was scheduled to have surgery this Friday. This date was set about 6 weeks ago. He went for a consultation today and they tell him they need to delay his surgery because he needs to have a few vaccinations due to them removing his spleen. The vaccinations take a couple weeks to settle in so surgery is delayed. He is not happy. No one thought about this when they scheduled his surgery??? More waiting. If you remember they can't do a biopsy because of the location. They are going in and removing his spleen to get to it. It is a very slow growing tumor that is why he selected to have the surgery after the holidays but now this is ridiculous.

Have a great afternoon!

Good morning,

Well we didn't end up going to class last night. I had a slow leak in a tire, it was gong on for a couple of day, DH would put air in, and by then next day it was low again. It ended up being a nail in the tire. Had to drop it off at Pep Boys and pick it up when they closed.

Valerie, I would be curious to know how many calories you burn on those rides! It has to be a lot.

Garance, the new workout was like a Cathe barre type right? did they use weights?

Lori, how frustrating that must be after having waited all this time for the surgery to be done. It's the unknown and the waiting that is the hardest on everyone.

Hi to Judy & Josie,

it's zero degrees right now, the high is supposed to be 8.

Work, then home to hibernate!

I just had the same thing with one of our cars... slow leak in both rear tires. feels good when it's a minor, fixable thing though. I'm using our older Subaru again. it's an 04, but it fits better than the '13 Outback ...to reach the pedals I need to get the seat ridiculously far forward.... then it's hard to reach back to grab the seatbelt, which is unforgiving in it's dinging if it's not connected. the older car fits shorter people. the newer one is built for tall people. DH loves the new one (though he's short too) but I'm reaching the point where I don't even like driving it anymore because of those issues. I've gotten so annoyed with the "chimes" that I'd like to connect the belt permanently & never ever use it again... I have dreams of shooting it with a large caliber hand gun just to shut it up.....but what are the chances I'd hit the right spot???

we did a short hike 3 miles or so..yesterday... supposed to be the last sunny day for a while so took the telescope and went to a park and scanned for birds. lots of ducks, cormorants, shore birds that are fun to watch and much easier with a scope vs binoculars. Later I did flex train ch, back , shoulders premix, plus core 1. just couldn't get revved up but better than nothing.

I gained a couple pounds in the last weeks. too many carbs I guess. back on fish, lettuce, and water.

excuse me... I sure am cranky this morning... does anyone know what happens ...at regular intervals... when suddenly your computer seems to be reset and you need to re-enter all passwords? it happened mid day yesterday, all of a sudden. wasn't turned off, no notifications or anything, and suddenly everything needs to be re entered.

Lori that must be so frustrating.... living with an unknown quantity like that, thinking you might be nearing some sort of resolution, and then something delays the process because something was over looked. he must be VERY frustrated. but better done right the first time.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did PRS #2 (52:28).

My hips were really sore from that Ballet Physique workout. It is very similar to the Physique 57 workouts and Tracy Mallett's Booty Barre. The upper body is with little weights (2 lbs.) with a lot of little pulses and some pushups--both regular and triceps.

Lori, that is very frustrating. I wonder what the vaccinations are for and how they are related to the spleen. I don't really know what the spleen does. I was a Renaissance specialist and in the 15th and 16th centuries they thought temperament was ruled by various "humours" related to organs--hence the term "splenetic" for someone cranky and full of spleen.

Very cold here today, but at least it looks like the Superbowl won't be too ugly.

Stay warm everyone!

Good evening ladies,

This morning was Ruthless "drip" which is pretty much 30 second drills. Tonight was ch/sh/tris.

I am off tomorrow! Yeah!!! We bought a large flat screen and it is being delivered tomorrow. Since I am the technical one my husband leaves all electronics it to me to set up. He's off tomorrow too so it will be a nice day.

Hysterical about the tires ladies....swear to god when I got to my car yesterday morning my front tire was almost flat! I drove straight to the gas station around the corner for air and it was fine for my ride this morning to the dealership. I had a slow leak near the rim and they plugged. I am told I need new tires so we'll be doing that this weekend.

Yes we are all a bit frustrated with his surgery delayed. I feel so bad for him. I had no idea what kind of vaccinations one would need but apparently he needed a few of them. He was grumpy so I did not ask him to elaborate. Lynda funny with the full of spleen! That was cute.

The ballet physique must have really worked you hard. I have never done the 57 or Tracy's. I hear that are great though.

Have a great night ! I'll let you know tomorrow night how successful I was with the TV and all the other components that will go along with it.

Good morning,

This morning I did KCM Trim Down workout 1 32 minutes.

Still freezing here....I think it's -1 right now. I hope this ends soon, I am so tired of being cold. I'm going to Florida in a couple of weeks, it's for work, and I usually do not want to go but this cold is making me sort of look forward to it.

Valerie, Fish, lettuce & water sounds very sparse for food...I would starve. What is your daily calorie goal? I try to stay around 1500 on days that I don't do workouts, but I usually do around 1600-1700. MyFitnessPal.com adds the calories you burn in a workout to your daily goal and you can eat those back. Regarding your computer, did you run a virus scan or does your virus software run it automatically at certain intervals? Depending on how it's set, it will erase all your saved passwords. I have mine do that each time I shut down the computer.

Garance, I remember the Physique 57.....I don't think I liked it very much...I may have sold it on Ebay...if I didn't I think I will. I should probably try Cathe's barre workout one of these days.

Lori, LOL about the tires...that is funny that it happened to 3 of us now. I am glad my DH can do the computer and TV set up stuff...I have a mental block against it all and get very frustrated even thinking about doing it. Have a nice day off!

Hi to Josie, & Judy,

Stay warm and look at your tires before you drive today! :)

Deb.. I let DH do the setup stuff too. I have little patience for it and never do it the way HE wants it done. so he can do it. the downside is that he can't explain anything and I can barely operate the TV. can turn it on/ off, change channels but recording is horrid. he seldom gets it right the first time either... and we seldom understand why it didn't work, because we repeat the same process and then it works. so we need to practice on a few non important things before something is on that we really want to record. but he doesn't want to get an easier system and it's a waste of my time to look for something if he's not interested. men.

Lynda the spleen acts a like a filter to remove and help recycle old red blood cells and is involved in developing specific white blood cells for immune function. most body systems have "backups" that can take over though maybe not as well as the original equipment. Lori I don't know offhand what immunizations he'd need nor how long it would take for them to be effective. even a flu shot is takes a week or two.

Lori I do a modified weight watchers. not sure how many calories because a lot of things like most fruits and vegies are "free". I think it's around 1500. fish is fewerWW points than most things so it's a good way to jump start things. I don't have a very forgiving metabolism and always have trouble with gaining as soon as I let my guard down a little, as I love pasta and most carbs but I seem to gain weight on those things now, which didn't used to happen. (I am always hungry) tell us more about the new TV. good luck on the set up!

I track points on WW when I'm home. traveling it doesn't work for me since we do things pretty much off the grid and connections are spotty at best. plus we are more active. Its hard to balance calories in/out when it's long term exercise, like the ride the other day. cold temps certainly increased the calorie output. I have no idea of the calorie burn Deb, but it's got to be significant. but... I try to be careful not to eat too much to compensate. I think most people ( me included) over compensate.
Josie if you're around, you do long term activities... like your long rides...... Do you eat whatever you want after? I try to snack during and after on decent food ( not junk) to keep my energy up, and not get too too hungry ...you reach a point, sometimes suddenly, when anything and everything looks good and that does not lead to good choices.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Burn Sets bis and tris with core 1 (47:40).

I sold my Physique 57s some time ago, but I had done them several times. They are pretty effective for toning the legs and hips. I didn't like Tanya as an instructor, though. I also did Turbo Barre a lot and would characterize it as intermediate as a barre workout--a lot easier than P 57 or Ballet Physique or Booty Barre. Cathe is just very straightforward, while the other barre workout instructors tell you to get into these very particular positions where at least I really feel it.

Lori, we have both a 52 inch and a 48 inch Sony HD. Love them both. We are upgrading to whole house DVR on Saturday with Time Warner. We decided to do it because it was actually cheaper than what we had last year. I guess you have to call them when a special offer runs out and move on to the next special offer in order to keep the rate lower. Our bill jumped by almost 30 dollars in January, so I called and they came up with this new offer. On Renaissance "humours," Hamlet's famous melancholy was sometimes diagnosed as an overactive liver, and King Lear's choler was supposed to be related to his heart. There are also phlegmatic characters, but I cannot remember what organ is not in balance. I guess the modern version of this is "hysteria" which is caused by problems in the uterus, and originally, it was--obviously--deemed a solely female disease.

Valerie, your husband sounds like a pain. I never worry about recording with DVR. Thanks for the info on the spleen. It sounds important, but other organs can take over for the immune system?

Hi to Josie and Judy!

Hi Ladies,

I took Monday and Tuesday off. I will be going spinning today and tomorrow will be my body pimping class ;). I should tell the gym to change the name so that more people will show up for the 6:45 AM class.

I hate counting calories and just try to eat healthy as much a I can. Valerie, check out Bicycling.com for nutrition advice. I try to have a good breakfast on my long rides and take bars with me and some dates. When I finish I'm hungry and like to eat a turkey sandwich with cheese and avocado and sprouts and tomato with mustard. Sometimes though I crave a cheeseburger ;)

Another e-coworker is leaving. She is the one that used to talk a lot, she got herself a job in Atlanta and will be leaving February 23rd. That makes a total of 4 people jumping ship. I hope the administration office gets a clue.

My DH handles everything that has to do with electronics. I'm like Valerie, I can barely used the DVD player in the den. I have to ask him or my DD if I want to use it.

Lori, sorry to hear about your brother. it just adds to the stress of going through surgery.
I hope Chester gets the proper medication to deal with his arthritis.

Garance, my DH is cranky and full of spleen ;) I'm going to use the quote on him.

Hi to Deb and Judy!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did After Burn (54:00). Haven't done this one in a long time. It is a lot harder and longer than All Out Low Impact Hiit.

Josie, was it the new administrator that finally gave you the impetus to retire? I remember you thought she was out of line in her criticism. I also remember "chatty Cathy" drove you nuts. Atlanta sounds like a nightmare right now with that ice storm. That turkey sandwich sounds so yummy. I gave up on counting calories a long time ago. I pretty much know when something has too much fat or sugar in it, but if it's really yummy, I will have a little bit of it.

Warmer here today and the weekend is looking much better.

where is everyone this morning?? Hope you didn't get a bad storm ??
I did Flextrain last night, yoga this morning. I want to thank everyone who recommended Flextrain. I think it's my favorite workout now. no dread factor but not too easy either. the hardest thing for me is the push up combo.... can't slide my feet sideways, just in and out, for some reason.

I'm not helpless with electronics and have set up plenty of things without trouble but something about the TV/DVD/DVD combo eludes me. probably something about the 3 remotes that I never caught on to. DH is not good at explaining things. but often enough, I see something clearly that mystifies him, so it all balances out..... it did yesterday. he's pretty good at venting his spleen... guess that organ has some uses after all.

Josie, I try to eat healthy and use my head, but if I don't count "something", calories, points, something, I will overeat a little, consistently, not enough for big gains, but enough to slowly gain a little bit every week. endurance activities help but I don't lose unless on a counting regime, and out eat slightly whatever the calorie burn was.
