so tuesday I went to yoga, came home and did a warm up on the bike for 10, did 15 on the treadmill, and then disk 11. Geez, pull ups are hard. I do keep on trying and I do better than before but they are a challenge for sure......

Today we went on a short hike, about 5 or so miles round trip with maybe 1200 feet elevation gain. It was very icy at the top, a frozen lake. seemed like freezing rain had frosted everything, especially the board walks and boulders around it. we used our new microspikes and went all the way around it without worrying about slipping. Stopped and made some hot chocolate and then headed down. around 4 hours RT.

Deb, if you aren't used to hiking it's best to start with something shorter than 10 miles. we do a variety of lengths of hikes. some long walks are easier than steeper short ones, and sometimes the walk down is harder on you than going up. We've done as much as 20 miles in a day but that's not enjoyable. strong work, getting back in the routine. it's worth it.

Yes, please, on the puppy pictures!.

Joan glad to hear everyone is improving.

anyone use a pedometer? i used one yrs ago, and i got a weight watcher one. it is a little more complicated to use, but i love counting my steps. i have 10565 on it right now. but, i did wear it while i did the step workout this am. does that count for the daily steps too, or is that cheating?

Thursday

Good morning,

I just finished Gym Styles Chest & Triceps..yowza! If I don't have Doms tomorrow I will declare my chest & tricep muscles dead. This is the one that she starts out with sets of push ups: 16, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, .....and I was doing them on my knees of course. We got a lot of snow overnight, maybe a foot. I had a hard time opening up the back door to let the dogs out.

Cathy, I didn't download....do you have an MP4 player? how does that work anyway? do you download then have to play it on a computer? Forgive my "luditeness"...as DH would say. Good job with the pedometer..I do not have one. I think all the steps count no matter what you are doing..

Garance, I am so excited about your Puppy!!! :D He sounds wonderful, and what a nice home for him to end up in! The more I read about that breed, he sounds like the perfect farm dog. Can't wait to see a pic of him.

Josie, I'm with you on doing step. I used to actually go to our gym and take classes after work..I can't imagine doing that now. This was in the 80's when step was first introduced. It was not as complicated as it can be now.

You have to see this>>>>>

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEmoMcahGPU&feature=related

Valerie, WTG on the hike! Yes. pull ups are a real challenge. I have those straps that I used before I got the Tower, and I was doing better with them. I stink with the tower...

Joan, what is DH doing in Germany? A special work project?

Take care!

I have a pedometer and am using it lately. I'm calculating approx steps a bike warm up and 30 minutes on the treadmill equal, so I don't have to wear the pedometer all the time. the number is probably consistent. so yes, I think it counts. If I know that's equal to "8000" steps then I can wear it the rest of the day and know how much more to get to 10,000. I don't wear it hiking cause it gets in the way of my hipbelt. it bounces off my waistband when I'm on the treadmill.

I've never ever been able to do step routines. can't dance either. Complete klutz. I get all mixed up with which side to go to, and if my arms and legs need to do different things, well, forget it. If step were the only thing out there, I'd give up exercise. I hate it. Even when Cathe does a tiny segment in Drillmax, I can't do it. it frustrates me cause it doesn't look like it should be that hard but for me it's impossible. the closest I've gotten is KPC and I still get confused on parts of it even tho I've done it many many times.

Ive heard hellebores called christmas and lenten rose. mine has been blooming to some degree for 2 weeks already and will probably continued to at least march. depends on the year. the flowers gradually lose their color but last on and on. everything stays pretty green here all winter. this is the only thing that blooms (obviously) this early. sarcococca are small white flowers, hard to see but they are tremendously fragrant. witch hazel is also subtle. mine is not that fragrant.

Josie, can you describe what 90 min spin workout is like? I have no clue. My stationary bike is at least 30 years old and still works well, but it's just for warm up.

Hi ladies,

Sorry to be awol. Crazy busy here, which is a good thing. I lost 2 more pounds but I don't know why. I think I can lose eating a little more than last year because of the muscles gained from STS. I just need to do enough to not lose the muscles I have already gained.

Love to see the puppy pictures.

I love to count steps and calories with my GWF. Any steps count but I never seem to get to 10000.

You have to remember my step wo is highly modified and may be just stepping off and on when Cathe does complicated stuff.

Deb glad you're back at exercising. If you could just get me back at it too. I don't know if you remember last year when I worried they would outsource dh's factory? He was able to cut costs enough to keep jobs in US and this month he is even doing a project to see if they can make some of the products they buy from China. Company is thinking of making him in charge of Germany plant as well as the one here. If not that he will probably have to go over there to do a similar cost cutting for that plant.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did High and Tight (37 min.) and 2 miles with Leslie (30 min.). Max was all over me on the floorwork in High and Tight. At one point I think I was doing leg lifts with him on my leg (22 furry lbs.). DH, after laughing for awhile, managed to persuade him that farm work outside would be much better.

I desperately want some pictures here, but DH is still having trouble getting them on the computer. We have a new camera from Christmas and I guess I will have to try, even though I am a real Luddite when it comes to technology.

Deb, it sounds like you are definitely back in action on your workouts. Maybe after my STS is over I will resurrect the Gym Styles. Have not done them in quite awhile. I think what I love the most about Max is his ears. I think they will eventually be little floppy wings. He has lots of feathers on them and you know--that soft puppy fur. He had a bath before we picked him up and he looked like a little bear. This afternoon he's in the truck with DH taking the last of the 2-year-old calves to slaughter. DH is now doing USDA inspection, but still selling by the quarter and side. He could now sell it to markets or restaurants by the piece, but I think he still prefers custom buyers.

I think I am only an intermediate stepper. Cathe's routines are not that hard for me to learn and I eventually get them down, although with age I have had to cut back on the impact. Deb, that youtube looked impossible, even on a 4 inch step. In Step Moves there is one little fast dance on the step, but nothing like this. Phew! I have the most trouble when the moves are with my back to the screen.

Cathy, I actually had that original Step 'n' Motion oldie. I eventually gave it to the local library. At the time it was pretty exceptional. I had some really repetitious step tapes--one by the Indiana Pacers cheerleaders, another that I cannot even remember that was just up and down and up and down with a few repeaters.

Valerie, I just would not have all that time for hiking. I guess when I retire I might take it up because I do like the outdoors in the fall and spring and an occasional snowshoe event when we have the fresh snowfall. Summer--too sticky!

Hi to Josie and Joan!

DH and I live where we live because of the hiking. Plenty of other places are good, but generally west in a cool climate. the first time I saw mountains I knew I had to live somewhere where I could get to them often. On our vacations we explore other places to hike, or ski or snowshoe. I grew up in the midwest and left ASAP. No mountains, no good.
We hike most of the year when it's cool/cold. 40's,50's. If it gets to 70 that's getting hot, and it usually coincides with insects. we stay home and do house projects. most of the year, even if it's warm in the lowlands, it's still cool in the mountains. sometimes we get an temp inversion and then we also stay home. There are people who hike in 80's, 90's but I'm not one of them. just a few weeks a year at most are unpleasant.

Wow Deb that is one fast step workout. It'd be easier for me to fly to the moon than do that. No fast feet here! I bought a kathy smith tape once, watched/ tried it, and knew there was not a chance in the world. It was so frustrating because someone who's good makes it look easy.

Hi Ladies,

I will be working out with Kevin tonight. My dh and I are going out to a club called The Edison in downtown LA. Here is the web site www.edisondowntown.com.

Garance, take a look at the web-site. They have a drink called the 19th century cocktail.
Remember when I suggested that you try a Manhattan with Woodford Reserve? The food sounds great to. The puppy sounds adorable!

Valerie, 90 minutes of spin is broken down into 2 classes. I get a 15 minute break in between. The class simulates hills, down hill and intervals by adjusting the resistance.
Twice per week I'm suppose to sit on the saddle for the whole class in order to build my booty for the Aids Life Cycle.

Joan, congratulations on your weight loss!

Deb, that step routine is crazy! I would definitely kill myself.

Hi Cathy!

Josie

Still working. I really need to get rid of this client. Her bank account is hard to balance because she doesn't write her checks in order, puts the same check number down twice and has checks in the #5000's and #2900's that she uses depending upon if she is in the office or at home.
I won't do the w-2's until I balance the bank because she gives me payroll numbers quarterly and they don't always equal the amount she wrote on checks. I only get to reconcile bank at year end. She does it during the year but is never right.

Off to bed for a few hours.

Joan

Finally Friday!

Good morning!

Today I did a Cardio Coach, 35 minutes, 278 calories. It is 5 degrees right now.. Needless to say the dogs are not getting a walk this morning.

DH has some stomach thing going on, lots of pain and vomiting. He is even staying home and for that to happen he has to be really sick.

Valerie, I have an orchid that my MIL gave me last year for my birthday. It is starting to bloom again. Right now it is a long stick with abbout 3-5 buds on it.

Joan, you are on the TaxDiet! Yes, now I remember about your DH and the company. I guess if he is in charge of the Germany plant he will need to go there often? Would you be able to go with him if it wasn't your busy time of year? I hope you charge that client a premium fee. You were still up when I got up to work out.

Garance. LOL at Max climbing on you and you lifting him with your leg. Puppies are so cute ! It makes me want another one. That step routine is supposed to be the "new thing" I think. One of the other videos on the screen showed a class learning some of it.

Josie, that club looks so interesting, with the history and all. Did you have dinner there?

Hi to Cathy.

Any plans for the weekend?

Take care,

Hi,

Well another exciting day at the Benish's..John was up at 1:00 am ( unknown to me until I got up at 4:15 to work out). He said he couldn't sleep because his stomach hurt. We blamed it on the Indian food lunch we had yesterday. So I did my workout, came here for a minute, then he got worse and worse and I ended up taking him to the emergency room. After an ultra sound and exam, it was deteremined that it is his gall bladder.. He has to stay away from all fat, even the good stuff, or he will have another attack. He also has to see a surgeon to see if it is that serious. I guess it was the Indian food that set it off. He has been sleeping since we got back cause they gave him some fun meds in an IV, he was pretty loopy when I drove home...

needless to say I did not go to work and I am watching him now in case he needs to go back....

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Petra Kolber's Bootcamp Boogie (63 min.).

Still working on the pictures. Today Max is off to the vet to get his third puppy shot, including rabies. This morning we ran into our vet walking her dogs, and she has never heard of an English shepherd, so we are bringing in our brochures from the breeder.

Deb, one of my sisters and my mom had gall bladder attacks and eventually had the gall bladder removed. I know how painful this can be. I hope he feels better.

Josie, I went to that site and looked at the libations. Lots of interesting and pricey drinks! I see there is a bit of chocolate in the 19th c. cocktail. DH is currently drinking some kind of porter beer that has a smidgen of chocolate in it as well.

Valerie, I grew up in the midwest too--Minnesota, which I loved for all of the lakes. Now it's the Berkshires, so we have mountains, but they are gentle compared to the rockies. The Appalachian Trail runs through these parts so we see a lot of hikers and backpackers headed up Greylock.

Brrrr--so cold here!

Hi Ladies,

Happy Friday! No wo for me today, the club was great we only had appetizers. There was a very good Jazz band playing and the people that we went with were a lot of fun. The hostesses were dressed in outfits of the 30's and they were playing silent movies in several of the rooms. I will definitely go back.

I will be working out with Kevin + spinning on Saturday and a 32 mile ride on Sunday.

Deb, hope your dh feels better!

Joan, I hate dealing with people that don't check their balances. I send reports to my researchers every month and I don't think that they even look at them until I tell them that they can not spend any more on a certain grant.

Cathy, are you spending time with your grandkids this weekend. I have not seen mine since Christmas. I miss them very much.

Valerie, it sounds beautiful where you live.

Garance, I ended up having my usual Manhattan except I asked for the Woodford Reserve. It was smoooooooooooooth!

Have a great weekend ladies!

Josie

Saturday

Happy Saturday Ladies!

Today is HouseMax and Keegan's agility class. Then I want to go shopping for some clothes for Palm Springs. DH and I have to look for a cabinet for the bathroom remodeling. Just stuff like that. He is feeling much better. They told him that he has to really eliminate fat from his diet, even the "good" fat. We will see how that goes.

Garance, I have been meaning to ask...did you get the Murad? It's really cold here too.

Josie, good thing you took a rest day Friday, it sounds like your weekend workouts will be killer. Still waiting for the link...

Hi to Cathy, Valerie & Joan!

Take care,

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning was Housemax, and Max was definitely part of the "show." He is in love with my duster. Actually, he was snoozing through a lot of it because he had a good 90 min. of farm chores with DH before he came in and DH went off to a referee re-certification.

Deb, so glad your DH is feeling better! Does he like fatty food? No, I have not yet received my Murad essential-C. I thought it would surely be in the mail today, but nope. Hmm--do you contact the seller at a certain point?

Start teaching on Friday and I feel a bit rusty, but I have all my handouts and packets ready to go and the first day it's just introductory, although we will be looking at a couple poems in one class--one by Sylvia and another by Ted.

Brutally cold here last night.

Tomorrow is my last week of STS meso 3. Then I will have to do a couple months of other stuff.

Garance,

I e-mailed the seller and she replied that she has shipped it and it should arrive soon...keep me posted.

Deb

Good evening all,

I didn't get to bed until 3:45am today after yesterday's 4:00am bedtime. At least all the w-2's are mailed. Back to a normal bedtime.? Four hours is just not enough sleep.

No wo.

Josie I did enjoy seeing the website of the Edison. I think I would enjoy going there. I don't think we have anything even close to that here.

Deb At least having your gallbladder taken out is easy now. My dm had it taken out about 4 years ago with no problems. I think I would prefer to have it removed than go through that pain again.

Joan

deb, i don't know what MP3 is. but, we put it on our computer and dh put it on a dvd for me. i really like it.

i took the weekend off, well kind of, had the grandkids friday nite and sat. went to church this am and pampered chef party this afternoon and back to church after that. so, did n't workout , but busy as usual.
