Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 1/23

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Slim Sculpt (45 min.).

Love the new avatar, Deb! It definitely looks like a beach instead of snow. I could use some beach right now. We did not get hit with this last storm--just some dusting--but we have a lot of snow to melt. DH was just told by the gastroenterologist that low dose aspirin (81 mg.) which we both take daily is considered preventive for colon cancer.

Valerie, my hellebore (Christmas rose) won't be blooming for a long time. I only planted it because it's mentioned in Plath's final bee poem, "Wintering." I also titled a chapter of my book, "A Late Winter Miracle," because that's what it was called in a Smith and Hawken catalogue. I love when it finally blooms in March.

One more class this afternoon, then no classes until Feb. 4. Yippee!

howdy ya'll, hope everyone is doing well, i have been doing a tracie long rotation this month with all of her new w/outs. ya know, just when ya think things are gonna slow down, after thanksgiving, christmas, b/days, baby births and on & on & on. well, we are now starting on the remodeling of the other house, so, nothing is gonna slow down it seems. i wanted to do STS this year, but just don't know if i'm gonna have the concentration that it takes. didn't do it at all last year, but this looks like it may be a busy year.
so, hope to be able to check -in. i am downloading the mixer thing, but don't know if i'll ever figure out how to use it.

lynda, i saw where your husband had a colonoscopy, are they gonna remove the polyp? is he ok?

I did Power Hour tonight. I think I like Cathe's older wo better than the new ones. They don't seem to jump the camera around as much.

I only got in 1.8 miles yesterday and 1 today. I'm going to have to start earlier and even if I only get in 10 minutes at a time I need to do more than sit at the computer.

Joan

This the longest week of the year. ugh....that, and a crappy night again, makes looking forward to this day as the longest day of the year. To top it off we have a 4 hour "Team Building" training from 1-5 today.

Running a little late today,

great seeing you Cathy! Remodeling can sure zap the energy.

Joan, we could have conversed via computer last night while you were posting. I was up too.

I will check in at lunch time...

Take care.

Got in a lot of miscellaneous errands in yesterday & workout #33. there are still 2 disks left, didn't notice #36. whatever! I couldn't increase weight much on #33 . my wrists were sore, and could not lift more. stayed with the same weight from previous except for concentration curls, tricep extension. the moves I have the most difficulty with are the side lateral raises, and I forget the name of the other.... seated, hinge forward, lift weight to the sides. I've stayed at 8 lbs forever and it took me a long time to get to 8! somehow that "part" doesn't change.

Cathy, welcome back. yes, remodeling will suck up your ALL your time and energy. I don't feel comfortable working out with a bunch of strangers running around, coming and going at unpredictable times.

Lynda, exactly as I thought... I moved The Town to the top of my queue and the next day it changed to "long wait" from no wait. moved it before the A Awards were announced. . watched one called Animal Kingdom. didn't care much for it, kind of dark, dismal. one of those movies where you don't LIKE anyone. one performance stood out though, a woman named jacki weaver who plays this scheming grandmother. I think she's nominated for best supporting. she makes it a memorable character.

Joan, I like Power Hour. haven't done it in a while but it's good overall weight work. I think that's the one with the front raises? It's the one exercise that always seems risky to me. like you could pull a muscle or strain something very easily. I never use much weight.

Deb, DH had a late evening meeting like that yesterday. he got home after I was sleeping so I didn't hear the gory details. I sleep in the guest room on "work" nights so we can both get some rest. I think it's a side effect of aging. you don't sleep as soundly, disruptions wake you up and then you can't get back to sleep. I never could sleep in a car, plane, or train. have to lie down and it has to be quiet.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Just Dance (51 min.).

Cathy, they always remove the polyps during the colonoscopy, which is why colonoscopies are called the "gold standard" in preventing colon cancer. Have you never had one? I thought it was pretty much an over-50 procedure for everyone. I don't know when I will start STS again either. I have even been thinking about selling mine because I don't do the leg workouts or the plyo stuff, and I hate all of the pushups in the first mesocycle. I did it twice, and it did not seem to have much of an impact. Maybe a bit stronger, but no big deal.

Deb, sorry you are having such a hard time with the sleep. I'm looking forward to my sleeping in tomorrow. It is still so dark in the morning that I want to sleep in every morning until there's a bit of light.

Valerie, I'm off to see the King's Speech tomorrow. Really looking forward to this one. I expect Colin Firth to get the Oscar this year.

Hi to Joan and Josie!

Lynda, it's hard to talk a lot of people into getting scoped. I'm the only one in my family who has had one, DH the only one in his. and DH has BAD family hx. truthfully, it's a pretty hard sell to most people who resist because they " aren't having any problems". Of course by the time you have "problems" it tends to be a bit late. a lot of people flat out refuse, no discussion. others put it off. and off. and off. It's expensive if you don't have insurance, and sometimes even if you do. But as you said, the beauty of it is that if there's a polyp, they snip it off, send it to pathology to see what it is but no additional procedure.

Hope The Kings Speech is good. it sounds interesting. It sounds like he's a shoo-in for the AA.

oh yeah, i had one when i turned 50, but all was fine. my dr. said every 10 yrs. i really do wanna do STS again, just not sure when.

What is eveyone up to this weekend?

chopped and moved wood all day yesterday, today mt biking for a while with a co worker of DH's. she's a 20-something and in good shape so it could be a work out. then more wood chopping. we are getting close to done with this tree. it was about 6 feet in diameter at the base, a big-ish one. hard to move those sections but we're getting there! want to hike tomorrow. nothing else exciting.
