Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 1/2/17

Good Morning,

Yesterday I did S&S Ramped Up Upper Body...whew....a good one for sure. I still wish she would have done a lower body in the same format. That would have completed the series.

Carolyn, I felt the same way with those BB moves in that workout. I did stay with the step, but thought about not doing it with the step next time.

Valerie, I guess if the firecrackers are that loud, it would be difficult to figure out where it is coming from. The format that you described is the one throughout the whole workout. That picture thing happened to me once...it was a setting on the DVD..there is something that you can use to make it bigger or smaller....I think.. You may have hit that button by mistake and made the picture bigger...?

Diane Sue, I hope you feel better today. What did you mean by someone saying that some of the disks have preaching on them? Was that a typo? Was is screeching? I also like Cathe showing the modifications "live" on the workout. I decided I would do a premix of Cardio Slam leaving out the Mat portion, then remembered that now I won't see any modifications since they are only in that one full length premix. :(. I didn't really like the mat section, even with modifications.

Lori, oh..that is sad about your son and his GF. :(. It sounded like all was so nice with her and you got along so well....also got along with her parents. No real hope of a reconciliation?

Judy, great that your painting is done. When do you get the new furniture? I started the SS only rotation too...I will also only use 1 riser the next time I do any of the workouts. I started with my 18 pound BB and had to drop down to the 15 on the moves in Upper Body.

A workout, then making the dog's food today...

Take care,

Deb, she said a pastor preaching on them. I checked mine and it is fine. I am not sure where she heard it. I am better today. I still am a little hesitant on on what to eat. It wasn't much yesterday. MFP was warning me about eating to little calories. I don't get that one often.

Valerie usually there is a setting on you television for screen size. Even some of my older ones have at least 2 and it does cut off things.

Judy, painting always seems like a lot more work than anticipated. All of the edging and corners if the time consuming work. It is nice that you got it done. Now you can put the new furnishings in and enjoy your new look.

Lori, I am sorry about your son and his girlfriend. Maybe they will resolve the problem. I would like the SB dvd. I would have to make adjustments with the bar if she uses it. I was a bit annoyed with mine.

When I say this TV is OLD... a big picture tube TV. it's a Sony and keeps on working. the DVD player is old too. more likely I hit a wrong button there as both DH and I use it and it's easy to touch something you didn't intend to. there is an alcove in our basement under the wood stove area one floor above. the TV on a table fits in there. the space hides the big tube shape. the only place I have a problem is on the right side of the screen where premix times list. it shows the minutes but not the seconds. I'll take a look but it's not a big loss either way. good to know that the whole Ramped Up is that superset format. I like it but it makes me drop down in weight.
Deb, the "kabooms" come from all sides and distances. it is nothing I grew up with. I fail to see how rational adults think this is fun. My guess would be one out of every 20 homes blows off some fireworks on NYE. some are worse offenders than others, but you can't be calling 911 without something specific.

we had a very cold night for us, will not get above freezing today or the next couple days. was supposed to drop to 16 but think it was low 20's. my hummingbird feeders would freeze so we bring them in at night and re hang early in the morning. so cool to see the hummers show up when it's still dark. they sit on the feeders and really "hit the bottle". we've had them fly up and land on a feeder before we even got it hung up.

Painting is so much about prep work, getting everything moved out or covered, vacuumed, taped, etc. the actual painting part feels like it's only a small per cent of the work. so rewarding when it's done though.

we are planning on a trip next week, leaving this weekend so I'm inclined to stick with familiar for the moment. will take a couple disks with me. we are renting a small house and there's a good chance I'll have workout time but not much gear.

Today I did 25 minute on the Tread Climber at slower pace, 158 calories. I also did the warm up from SS Bootcamp since I was previewing the disc. Previewing a second time since I already previewed the downloads. I am previewing starting with the ones that will take a bit longer to actually use. I did not have my Fit Bit on for this. I finished off with Lower Body Leg Blast using 3# ankle weights for the single leg stuff, 17 minutes, 59 calories. Not a big workout. I still m feeling a bit weak this morning.

Valerie, those old picture tube televisions seem to last forever. My Dad still had one that was working when he passed away 3 years ago. He had went out and purchased the larger screen 3D (I don't think he knew it was 3D) Sony Visio which I now have in my workout room. It is nice having the smart tv. I am still working with an older dvd player myself. I got rid of the old 5 dvd Kenwood. That one took way to long to load and deal with the settings.
I don't get why people are so anxious to shoot off fireworks way before the day. This really is a problem for some back from war zones and it is disrespectful. Most adjust when they have been home for awhile. Then again people in those countries live with it all of the time. But, still it is not nice. At least do it on that day only.

Deb/Diane Sue

Here is my Fit Tower used for a supported barre with my Jumpsport. It worked perfectly as long as I did not have to move it!

Today I did Ramped Up Upper Body. I like this one a lot. I am previewing some of the dvds a second time. I need to look at Cardio Slam again before I do it tomorrow. The premix with modifications seemed to have abrupt transitions with some brief portions missing.

Valerie, we have an old Sony television that is still going strong. It was cutting edge HD ready in 2000 . We have looked at new ones a few times but it isn't important enough to me to replace it yet.

Deb and Judy I am also doing the all Strong and Sweaty rotation.

I read about the mix-up with some of the dvds on another thread. Apparently some received the Pastor instead of Ramped Up. I checked mine immediately after reading that.

Lorie, I would think that your fit tower with the weights would be pretty well balanced under your rebounder for stability. That is a good idea.
Maybe eventually I need a fit tower.

Carolyn, it seemed to me that the modification boxes were not there very long on Cardio Slam.

Did Low impact sweat today. I had to dumb down a couple of the sequences. I am so awful at footwork even slowing it down to almost nothing I still have trouble doing what cathe is doing. won't whine about it except to say it is incredibly hard for me to do what they do so effortlessly. I have to parse it out move by move and then do it slowly. then maybe I can do it. got most of it though .....I fell over the step once. nothing serious but a small crash.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Cardio Slam ( the premix that leaves our the Mat portion). It was a good cardio workout.

Diane Sue, "a preacher preaching" What??? Very strange. Why are you hesitant on eating? If you are still feeling weak, you may be overdoing it even with just a tread climber workout.

Valerie, it could be the TV as well. Now that you mentioned it, it may have been my old tube TV that had the picture that got too large and was cutting off a portion of the screen. Look at the remote... Those temps do sound really low for your area. Is that common to have in January? You should get Travel Fit!! All you need is a band. A great little workout. I downloaded it to my iPad and used to do it in hotel rooms all the time when I travelled for work. I did find that "slow" mode on my DVD remote, so thanks for that tip. :)

Lori, how clever that was to anchor with 30# DB's! :). I still can not vision what you do with that bar while jumping.

Carolyn, I thought the premix of Cardio Slam with modifications was strange too, but realized they must have had to do that "freezing" second to insert the box with modifications. Why do you think parts are missing?

A workout, processing the dog food, and agility class later...

Take care,

This morning I did Cardio Slam with modifications. It was a tough workout even with modifications and a good calorie burner for me. I didn't use all of the modifications, but I used most of them. I burned 359 calories during the workout. Deb, the DVD seems to freeze for a few seconds after each exercise during the first half of the workout. It doesn't seem to happen much later in the DVD. After viewing it again I don't think that anything is missing.

Valerie, I agree with Deb. Travel Fit is a great workout when you don't have your equipment. I plan to take it with me when we go out of town later this month. Slow is good with some of Cathe's moves. I do it all the time with fast feet shuffles :).

I have my WW meeting this morning and a few errands. Have a great day.

Deb, I thought the mix up with the preacher preaching seemed really weird too. I did eat yesterday. I still had a bit of a not in my stomach and off again on again nausea. I woke this morning feeling normal again. I was worried that it was something I had eaten because it it suddenly. Yesterday my husband got it so I guess I know now that I don't need to throw out everything I ate the day I got sick. I thought it might have been my salad mix that I had just opened.
I need to make another batch of dog treats. I think I have found the dog food for Gertie so I am not cooking for her right now. The Blue Basics grain free salmon has worked and she loves it. I am on my 4th 22 pound bag. The only addition is a tablespoon of pumpkin. Btw, canned pure pumpkin is generally squash. Including Libbys who use their own variety of squash. I found that out recently. Something to do with the harvest time of pumpkin and harvesting for holidays as an excuse.

Carolyn, I previewed Cardio Slam again yesterday for the 3rd time. It does seem to pause a bit. I don't think it would bother me. I have seen other workouts by different instructors with a pop up and never noticed any pause or lag.

I was reading "2 Lazy 4 the Gym" and she noted that the S & S Boot Camp premix that adds bonus abs is missing the first cardio segment. I did this premix on Monday and didn't even notice, but I went back and looked and she is right, at least for my dvd.

we are renting a small house for a couple nights. probably a motel sat night, depends on how far we drive Saturday. It is a lot quieter and cheaper and more diet friendly if you are not stuck with days of restaurant meals. I should have enough space to do an actual workout. I was going to take a couple kickbox ones since they usually don't need equipment and I don't have Travelfit. I don't have to worry about disturbing people in the next room or not having enough space. the altitude is higher there so that alone will make it way more difficult. it takes a few days to adjust. after you acclimate to altitude, it never seems to give much of an advantage when you return to sea level.

I will sit back and let all of you do the new workouts while I get up to speed with my new step using ICE. I did what we talked about, using one riser for most. Deb I use the 'slow down" button often. Mine goes to 0.8 with one click, and to 1.3 ( cathe x 1.3???) on the next click so be careful. when feet are flying fast, it slows things just enough to make it manageable. after I've done a workout a few times, I usually don't need it anymore. I got thru several of the LIS moves much better this time, but for a few I'm just stepping up and down.

deb some years we get low temps like this, where it is below freezing. I think one year we got down around 12 degrees. eastern WA and in the mountains it's much colder, but western WA is usually milder and wetter. some winters it barely freezes but this one has been rough so far. our winters are either mild and dry ( el nino), cold and wet( la nina) or neutral. they are calling it neutral but I think it's acting more like la nina.
what is the thing about a preacher? did a wrong disk get shipped to some people? I know it's been mentioned a few times now.

diane sue maybe you had a virus like the norovirus that causes such problems on cruise ships? if it was food, it seems unlikely your DH would get the same thing days later, since he probably didn't eat what you ate. good for him to know it's about a 24 hour bug. I use winter squash instead of pumpkin all the time. in my experience, squash has much thicker walls so you get a lot more edible material.

Good evening ladies..

Today was Ramped Up Upper Body I did pretty good with my weight selection. Sometimes going lighter than Cathe though. Yesterday was the Bootcamp workout. I too need to modify some of the moves. Especially anything using barbell on the shoulders does not work for me. Tomorrow is Cardio Slam. Looking forward to this one and since I have had 2 days of resting from jumping hoping it doesn't exhaust me!

Judy... seems like there have been a few issues this time with the new series. I have the downloads so everything is playing fine for me! I did make up some premixes over the weekend using Imovie. These will be good to use when I am short on time. Funny how projects always take longer than anticipated!

Deb...I am devastated over the breakup. Hoping they can reconcile. If not I will have to accept his decision. I do not have to like it though. I only use the fit tower for SB's workouts. She does barre on the jumpsport. For the power jump workouts I do not use the fit tower at all. Never touch it. That is one of my premixes I made up with Cardio slam...no matt! Funny this is what you did.

Carolyn...I also like travel fit a lot and use it when I do not have access to weights. It is a great workout even if you are not traveling! My downloads skipped in a few places but once I re-downloaded all has been good.

Diane Sue...I also saw that some people received a preacher video!! That is crazy! Hope you are feeling better.

Valerie...have a great trip! I can't wait to hear all about it.

Have a great night all!

I was almost finished typing a whole post and it just disappeared on me this morning. That happens to me a lot. Today I did Piyo Strength Strong Legs with the gliding discs and skipping the plank moves, 24 minutes, 80 calories. I then did Strong and Sweaty Cycle Sweat timesaver 1, 36 minutes, 248 calories. Total time was 60 minutes, and calories 333.

Valerie, your trip sounds nice. I have taken different no equipment or tubing workouts with me on vacations. I took Travel Fit and Tony Horton's One on One Road Warrior (both tubing) with me. Piyo worked well since it didn't require anything. It doesn't get the heart rate up much though. Kickboxing is a nice idea if there is going to be room for it.
I am sure that it was some kind of virus that I had. My husband was still not feeling well when he went out today. I feel good today and am back to looking at food as something that sounds good. So I guess it took from Sunday night late till this morning to be completely gone. I like winter squash better than pumpkin except for in soups and stews. I find most recipes that I have used it in leaves it to mushy. I prefer it just baked.

Judy, I wonder if they meant to leave the first cardio segment out of that premix. It does say rounds 1-6 though. Is the time still 56:14 like it says in the users guid

Lorie, maybe God had something that he wanted some to hear ;) I never have heard of something like that happening before. I doubt I will be using a barbell for some of those moves. There was a time when I would have done it with no problem.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did Ramped Up Upper Body and today I did Cardio Slam & Bonus Abs. I also did SB Lower Body Band Target.

Deb-I think I might stay with the Timesaver premixes for Cardio Slam from now on. I really liked the floor only premix and the floor and step premix looked good too. We are supposed to get our furniture in 2-4 weeks.

Lori-I need to get back into the SB workouts. I got out of the habit of adding them on and I can feel it. Her lower body targets are really good for me. I got an email about her 12 week detox challenge. It sounds interesting, I may do that one.

Diane Sue-I hope you are feeling better. That is weird about the preacher dvd mix up. I first saw someone post on Facebook about it.

Valerie-I was having that problem with my Spinerval dvds. For some reason, they weren't fitting into the TV screen and I couldn't read the menus. I ended up changing a setting on the dvd player menu and was able to see everything. Oddly enough it was only a problem with Spinervals, not Cathe or any other DVDs.

Carolyn-I had a good calorie burn with Cardio Slam too. I found it pretty challenging, even with modifications. The mat part was the hardest for me.

Diane Sue-I just looked at the boot camp DVD and the premix is 56:11. On the Cathe App the premix doesn't leave out the first cardio.

I previewed Cardio Slam today while on the treadmill and elliptical. I did not see modifications anywhere. holy crap.... that is a lot of jumping and jacks. everyone has mentioned modifications.. do you need to do something special to see them? are they in the premixes?

I just hit "play" and watched 45 min program but saw no modifications.

I did 25 on the treadmill and 20 on the elliptical ( with arms) so a reasonable 45 minutes.
I don't think cardio Slam in this format looks like anything I can do. there must be significant modifications or it is WAY out of what is reasonable for me. I can do the cardio part but no way can I do the jumping. I looked closer and my yoga mat is many inches wider than what cathe uses.... explaining why jumping across it has been so hard for me. I didn't notice until they put the step on top of the mat and I realized I have way more mat showing, in both length And width. my mat is close to twice as big. I have several mats here and all are the same size so I thought it was "standard size" . didn't look at any premixes.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did S&S PHA Training. I like this one a lot.

Carolyn, I watched the DVD that I have closely, and it seemed to freeze right before the modification box appeared. For those exercises that she didn't do modifications, it didn't freeze. I hope yours is not defective? How is WW going?

Diane Sue, it does sounds like it was some kind of bug that you had...better than it being the food. I didn't know that canned pure pumpkin was really squash!! How do they get away with that? Doesn't is show "pumpkin" in the ingredients list?

Judy, that is weird that some of Bootcamp is missing...I wonder if that was intentional on Cathe's part?

Valerie, renting a small house sounds like a better idea. Where are you going? The modification is a separate premix for Cardio Slam. Its the exact same workout as the regular one, with Cathe appearing in a little box in the upper corner showing the same move with modifications. Whenever Cathe does any workout with the mat as part of the floor work, I just don't put the mat down and do whatever is comfortable for me to do. I think my mat is wider and also thicker than what they use.

Lori, let us know what you think of Cardio Slam today. Yes, I found that the Mat portion of Cardio slam gave me the dread factor and I didn't want to just abandon the whole workout. Too bad you made the premix before seeing there was one already made? Is that because you were using the downloads? Did you get the DVD's as well? Where is the thread about the preacher video? Did Cathe's Administrator reply?

Judy, how exciting about the new furniture! Agree on the timesavers for Cardio Slam...I will do those instead for the rotation as well.

A workout, and not sure what else is up for today. It's John's day off, but the weather is supposed to be bad so we don't want to travel too far.

Take care,
