Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 1/2/11

Good morning,

Lots of snow here, probably 3-4 inches, which does not sound like a lot on it's own, but it is over what was already there. It makes the drive to work slower.

No workout. Good intentions again when I went to bed, then around 3:00 or so, turned off the alarm. John got up at 4:30 with Keegan, I could have gotten up then, but just didn't. I will start again Sunday, a new week.

I have not weighed myself in a couple of week, maybe a good idea since I have been slacking on the eating program.

Stay warm,

Hi Deb, Josie, and Valerie--

This morning I did Booty Barre (63 min.). I expect some doms tomorrow.

Wow, Valerie, that is definitely a Spartan diet and I would be surprised if you did not lose weight on it. I had one sample of each of the things I baked at Christmas, and DH and DS ate the rest--mostly DH who originally made the requests for these bars, cookies, pumpkin bread, and pound cake. I have half a sandwich and a piece of fruit for lunch everyday with my giant cappucino (4 shots of espresso, low fat milk). For dinner, it's the same for me--half portions of what I give DH and very, very light on the vinaigrette for salads (incidentally, Sclafani balsamic vinegar is expensive, but very worth it). I go to their website and order a case at a time of the pinch bottle variety. It lasts for a year.

DH and I are off to use our gift card to Bed, Bath, and Beyond this afternoon. Need a new bathroom rug. The old one is pretty tatty on the back side. Tomorrow is True Grit and Sunday we are going to Mezze's for the comfort menu again.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Mostly I do pretty well on diet. I don't have good family history of robust metabolism. I've been watching my calories since I was a kid. sister, brother obese. grandmothers, mother, aunts /uncles significantly overweight overweight. my father wasn't too much overweight but had an ulcer that kept him from eating for days at a time, multiple times a year. A lot of the family weight issues are poor habits but we all have the propensity to turn every extra calorie into fat.
I have 2 glasses of dry white wine while I'm cooking and eating dinner.... that's my main indulgence. unsweetened carbonated water and a rare diet soda. I have a nonfat milk latte with my oatmeal in the morning, decaf with just a 1 tsp of real espresso to get the motor running. (Lynda, I'd be in low orbit with 4 shots of espresso) I forgot I had 2 servings of irish cream liquor sometime in Dec. I get the bottle to last most of the year.

when I read what the "clean eating" people eat, I'm not so good. I love pasta and cheese, and bread. Whatever.....
I've cut a few hundred calories a day, and will try to stick with it and hope for results. that plus more exercise. I've been maintaining without much struggle so I think my regular diet is sustainable long term.

I bought some stevia based sweetener to try. I've tried and disliked all the others but plain oatmeal needs something, and it's easy to get liberal with agave.

Deb, we may have snow in the forecast again.... thanks for sending it our way. a little possible tomorrow and the chance of more next week around Wed. I would skip weighing until you're feeling more back to normal.

Good afternoon ladies,

Deb I was sorry to hear about Kelsey. My first cat was brought home by my son from a litter in the neighborhood. His friend took the brother cat. They let cat run loose so I fed and got shots for him. When they moved and took the cat, my cat just moped around. He didn't even seem to want to eat. I asked them if I could keep their cat and they agreed. Unfortunately he died a couple of years later. My cat wasn't bothered by the other cat's disappearance this time. He seemed to accept death just not moving away. We had Tyrone for 19 years. When we had to take him to the vet for the final time my husband and I just sat there and cried. We got another Maine Coon cat because they are long lived. But even then he is now 8 or 9.

I got home late Wed. I would have posted yesterday but had a fraxel laser procedure again. It wears me out. My face is red and swollen. It is also starting to peel.

I am still getting in the 3 miles a day but want to start lifting on Monday.

Joan

Hi Ladies,

I will not be doing much this weekend. My cold has gotten worst. We are supposed to go out to dinner tonight, but I may have to stay home. But, my little Alex's slobbery kisses were worth it.

Have a great weekend!

Josie

Hi all,

Keegan's agility class today, then the party for the nephew around 4:00.

Lot's of HouseMax in between.

Josie, hope you feel better.

Joan, how was Vegas?

Valerie, you're welcome! You can have all the snow you want from us...

Garance, KCM has a pre-sale up for 2 DVD's ( part of the 30 Minutes to Fitness collection) for $26, free shipping if you order today or tomorrow. She also has clips up to see if you would like them. I ordered, for $26, why not? Her last ones were Ok, not that great, but good for something different.

take care,

Tried the stevia sweetener on my oatmeal. no, don't think it'll work. I get a sour almost salty taste and then a little sweetness. I've had this issue with other sugar subs and seldom use them because they taste "funny". put some agave syrup on anyway. I really don't like very sweet things but without any sweetener, oatmeal tastes like paste. can anyone recommend anything? Equal? sweet & low? anything else out there? this is strictly for cereal, prefer black coffee and no tea. when fresh fruit is better I can get by with but it's tougher in winter.

Had a busy day. yoga wasn't a big calorie burn. It's a different style called "yin"... long stretches. then shopping, hauling stuff to goodwill. got in 35 min on the treadmill though slower than usual. my butt got sore from the plyo leg disk and it didn't respond well to the faster pace. today the next upper body disk, give my butt a day off.

Josie, hope your cold improves. Little kids are (unfortunately) sinkholes of upper respiratory viruses!
Joan, welcome back. anything to tell us about your vegas trip? how many lasers procedures have you had now? sore, red and peeling is best reserved for cold dark winter days!

I use equal.

This is the 5th procedure but the first 2 don't really count. It kept jamming. It made face red but not enough power to really help. That's why this treatment was free.

No royal this year so it broke my 5 or 6 year streak. I was disappointed that 2 of my favorite comedy clubs had closed and fewer restaurants. Or at least the one's I liked. I'm still hoping to skip next New Year's trip. I can only take one week of excess food at a time.

Joan

I'll to snatch a pack or two of equal / sweet & low from the starbucks when I get coffee. I don't want a box of something else I don't like. too bad, I'd heard good things about stevia. I've never been a fan of weird sweetener but since I'm doing oatmeal it seems important. I can't eat most of my favorite dry cereals any more because I seem to have a problem digesting barley. most dry cereals have some sweetener and it's enough. I was using fresh raspberries and vanilla almond milk on oatmeal and that was pretty good but raspberries aren't always available. bananas don't do it for me.
