Good morning!

Funny thing yesterday....you know how we have been talking about getting the EW magazine to read the DA article? I am sitting reading a book last night and DH goes into his work papers and says, " This came into the office this week, (he gets all kinds of free magazines and stuff at the office) and I thought you might want to read this one"...it's the EW issue that we are all trying to find!
It was a good article...

so..Valerie, don't buy it, I will mail it to you...I think I have your address somewhere, but if you e-mail it or PM me with it you will get it faster! Ten you can mail it to whoever could"t find it next and so on! LOL...That session of wood splitting is definitely an upper body workout!

Kylee got her AKC Beginner Novice title yesterday and took 3rd place in her class! We won't mention what she did in the Novice class...let's just say it wasn't pretty.

Lori, Butts & Guts is definitely harder than the P90x leg workouts! Did you enjoy the first episode of DA? Yes, I did ask for the worksheets and someone posted them with a new compendium too! I am leery about clicking on those kinds ok links though..a little paranoid about viruses.

Hoping to get a workout in today..it's been so long since I have done anything...

Hi to Judy, Josie, and Lynda!

Here are a couple of pictures from yesterday's show. Getting ready to go into the ring. I'm giving her the "you better pay attention to me or you won't get that treat I promised you" speech! She heard the word "treat" and she is definitely paying attention at that moment! :D

Oh Deb that is just too funny and coincidental! I'll PM my address. just the DA article is fine if it's a big magazine. speak up everyone , who wants it next? I'll still look at rite aid Tuesday for future reference. if it's a good informative publication I want to know if it's available locally.
wood splitting is a real upper body and core workout. glad I don't have to do it all year though.

we are planning on going on a trip next week...will leave sometime during MLK weekend. going to CA to visit some family, get in some mt biking and hiking in the desert. death valley, Mojave area. probably about 2 weeks. I may be able to check in sometimes. depends on how good internet service is and how much time I have. I can't type much on the laptop though.

Kylee is so cute... definitely paying attention to you..she knows where treats come from.

Not sure what to do today but it's raining significantly so indoors for sure. upper body gets a rest today, so plain old cardio of some sort. yes Deb, get in a workout... you'll feel better after you break out of the long stretch of recovery.

ETA thanks deb, got the worksheet for Flextrain. maybe there's a way to print only what you want but my printer ignored me... I got all the new workouts. very nice format including a calorie burn for the workout plus all the pre mixes. my printer is getting up in years and does not do what it says it will do.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did RK (55 min.). On this one, I don't do that double kick which I don't like. Instead I tap my toe and then kick. I also substitute half-jacks or just a boxer's shuffle for all those jacks.

Deb, Kylee is definitely a cutie. She looks so attentive. Glad you got to read the DA article. As Lori told you, Frozen is an animated feature. If I had grandchildren I would go.

Yesterday it rained all day and was so warm that it feels like mud season. Both of the semi-finals games in football were played in pouring rain. Our son was at the Patriots game at Foxboro and said it was not too bad, but the Seattle game looked awful. (So glad the Pats won, although DH says that they have now changed to a running game and Brady doesn't do any throwing because there are no good interceptors, just good running backs.) Today it's wind, wind, wind.

Off to see the Coen bros. film, and tonight out to dinner.

Good afternoon ladies!!!

Today I did p90x3 yoga since it is only 30 minutes. Thought it was done well and felt great after. I also took Chester for 1.5 mile about 1/2 into it I could see his leg was bothering him again. I will need to take him to the vet. Been going on for a while now. Right when I think all is well then he starts limping again. So something is not healing.

Deb...very funny about the DA article! I have yet to watch the season opener. By the time I had time yesterday it was all about Football!! Yeah go Pats!! :)
Kylee is adorable! Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Valerie....my friend at work is suppose to bring in the magazine for me. If he does not have it then yes you can mail to me next! How funny is this! Your trip sounds wonderful. Very nice.

I completely forgot about the list of workouts that wonderful person put together. I actually had printed it out to keep in my workout area. I have it in a binder and I refer to it all the time. Completely forgot it was updated with the new workouts. Can't imagine the time it took to complete this.

Lynda...rain here too the past couple of days. Snow is just about gone. Can't wait to here your review of the movie.

Hi to Judy and Josie!

Good morning and Happy Monday (ugh!)

Today I did 35 minutes of Run Fit with Candace Bergen. Yesterday I did one of the new KCM workouts. It feels so good to be able to do this again.

Valerie, the article will be in the mail today. I don't think it's your printer...it's a PDF document, and I couldn't figure out how to print only the one I wanted either.

Garance, Comfort food dinner last night? I think modifications are the best way to get a workout done, without injury. I used to get upset when I couldn't or knew that I shouldn't do a part of a workout, now I just modify and get on with it. Even the new KCM's, there's some jumping jack segment that I can do about half of, then I just do every other one or so.....whatever it takes to get through it and keep moving right?

Lori, have you ever done any of Cathe's yoga workouts? Just wondering how you would compare them to Tony Horton. I would get Chester checked out...it could be a torn ACL...not something to play around with. Some do heal on their own. ( Lynda can tell about Max here) but some, like my Kelsey had to have the surgery.

Judy, how is your FIL doing?

Hi to Josie,

Not much else here, work, then class tonight where I get to brag about my Kylee and her title~!

Take care,

Good Morning,

Yesterday I did Muscle Endurance and 20 minutes of Core Max. I am off work today and am getting ready to do a long bike ride. I can watch Downton Abbey and the latest episode of Pit Bulls and Parolees. A strange combination for sure  but really the only programs I follow now and both available on Amazon.

Deb-Congratulations on Kylie's title & place! Thanks for the photos too! She looks like a sweetie!

Lori-I downloaded the P90x app on my iPhone and it has a couple of free workouts that I can try. Looks interesting so far. I'll let you know how I like it.

DH and I are looking at Assisted Living with memory care for FIL. There is one that is only a couple of miles from us and we are going to visit there this week and check it out. SIL was wanting to take him to Colorado Springs but we think the altitude would be too much for him, since he is having trouble breathing here. He has congestive heart failure and pulmonary fibrosis, along with his dementia/memory loss :( DH & SIL can see that he won't be able to live in his home much longer and they feel FIL would be safer in a facility rather than trying to set up home care. I'm not sure, but I think they are afraid he might get taken advantage of financially if strangers are coming to his house to take care of him. In any case, I'm doing the leg work here as far as looking for facilities and making appointments. I hope the one close to us works out, as it would be so easy to visit him, and monitor his care. SIL will be here next week for his next memory assessment and I think that is when they will try to get him to agree to move. This is very hard and stressful for them, as they know he will fight it. I guess the doctor doing the assessment has said that he can be the "bad guy" and tell FIL he has to move, if worse comes to worse.

Hi to Lynda, Valerie & Josie,

Judy

Judy, I have an aunt in a memory care facility in Portland OR. She has done VERY well there. she was in an assisted living for a couple years before ...a very nice place... and was failing. the new facility is a little more expensive but the people are trained to provide more direction. she is doing 200% better. she's more active, eating better, and isn't complaining of illness after illness. it was a huge turn around. she has some memory issues but related to being almost blind and very hard of hearing. We were amazed at how much better she did with staff providing more direction than at the "plain" assisted living. she's about 92 and has been unable to live alone since she around 86 or so. it was a really good thing for her. I hope you have luck with the FIL. sometimes older people need to be "directed" ... not asked what they want.

I ended up taking yesterday off exercise. watched the golden globes and relaxed.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did GG, the premix without the ball (55:40).

Inside Llewyn Davis is somewhat puzzling. The ending repeats the beginning, except you know why he is being beaten up in the alley behind the club where he performs and the sudden appearance of a singer who seems to be Bob Dylan (not really, but is singing one of Dylan's early hits). I think maybe this is supposed to be a note of optimism--i.e., that Llewyn, who can't seem to get a break, is finally on the cusp of the folk music revival in the early 1960s. He was also advised to join a trio earlier that sounded like Peter, Paul, and Mary (he was told to cut his hair and make his beard into a goatee) and promised that this might give him a chance. I don't know, though. A whole cast of Coen eccentric characters, a wonderful cat named Ulysses, and some good music. I liked the film, but I like almost anything by the Coen brothers.

The comfort meal was exceptionally good last night, and I also ate several bites of an absolutely yummy key lime pie with lime sorbet on top that DH had for dessert.

Lori, it turned out that Max just had pulled something, and I am so glad we did not do the surgery for ACL, because the recovery would have been exceptionally difficult. You might try some glucosamine, which seemed to have a palliative effect and eventually Max was fine. He just went in for his annual checkup and shots, and when the vet saw his blood sample, she said he must be an "athlete," which apparently you can tell from a dog's blood--how well it's oxygenated. He runs like crazy at times, and I worry that this was how he initially injured himself.

Judy, what is Pit Bulls and Parolees?! Sounds like the virtual opposite to DA.

Hi to Josie and Valerie!

Good evening ladies!

Sorry about posting twice. Not sure how I did that.

Slept in this morning...boss is back from vacation so I am back to not sleeping well on Sunday nights. :(

I did manage to do about 30 minutes of Chest and Back. Was so tired and was please I did something.

Deb...yeah good job Kylee! I agree with modifications. I have no problem modifying when necessary or just because I do not like a move and prefer another.

Lynda...speaking of modifying I do not do those double kicks at all. I feel very awkward doing them and do not like the flow of them. So I improvise and do whatever I am in the mood for while still keeping the beat. Chester has an appt on saturday. I do not know what to make of his leg or foot as I am not sure what is bother him. He has been on cosequin for about 4 months. I hope it is not serious. I will be so sad if we can't go for our walks for a while as I know how much he enjoys them. It has been tough for him these past couple of weeks. I like the Coen brothers too.

Valerie...I have the magazine so no need to send. I love that list of workouts. Love that it has the calories burned (I know this is not accurate but gives you an idea) also having the list of exercises. It has been very useful to me.

Judy...I wish you luck with the assisted living near you. This must be so difficult for you and your DH. Really hoping it works out well.

Hi to Josie!

Good morning,

Good class last night, however we go home late and I am really tired.

Judy, I too, hope you are able to get your FIL in a facility close to you. It makes all the difference. I agree that he will be safer in a facility. His doctor sounds like a good guy. Like Valerie mentioned, the memory care facilities are very good, they know how to take care of the people, stimulate their minds with activities etc. That TV show looks interesting...I may have to put it in my Amazon watch list.

Lori, I had that horrible Sunday night non-sleep thing happen this past Sunday too...horrible. I think I got 2 hours of total sleep....I hope you slept better last night.

All: I took the Flex Train write up that was posted on the other thread, and put it in an excel worksheet, where you can record multiple workouts...if anyone is interested in it, give me your e-mail address and I will send it to you.

Valerie, your aunt is a good example of how those facilities can be just what is needed. My aunt, was in one too. They were great with her.

Garance, John and I have started to talk about going to a local farmer and getting fresh eggs and beef...I am starting get nervous about all the chicken, eggs and other meats with all the antibiotics etc. Wish you lived closer, we would buy your DH's meat etc in a heartbeat! Any recommendations as to what to look for or ask if we find places? Remember, I'm a city girl, have no idea what goes on to get those packages of meat in the supermarket!

Did anyone watch the latest episode ( #2) of DA? No spoilers here but it had a disturbing scene...with a warning prior to the start.

Hi to Josie,

Take care,

I haven't seen the 2nd DA episode yet, but I read a spoiler (I have a bad habit of doing that) and I think I know what you mean :(

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did PRS #2 (52:38).

I haven't watched the second episode yet either. I am too excited about the Good Wife and a new HBO series with Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConnaughy (I recorded this and watched it last night.) which both conflict with the new episodes of DA. I noticed that they replay the previous week's episode and hour earlier than the new episode, so maybe I will just stay one week behind.

Deb, try to find a farmer with a closed herd and grass-fed. Inquire about the aging of the beef, though, because if grass-fed beef isn't aged long enough, it just doesn't have the flavor. On chickens and eggs, make sure that they are free-ranging, and this means more than just cage-free and roaming around a barn. The best chickens are out there eating bugs, and the best eggs have lovely yolks that are almost orange from eating more than the usual chicken feed. When we were out to dinner Sunday, one of the customers was so ecstatic over his pork loin that he asked about DH's farm (listed on the menu), and the waitperson said "He's right over there." The diner came over to tell him how good it was. If you are looking for locally raised pigs, just make sure that they have space to root and play. They are so smart and fun to watch.

Lori, I totally agree with you on those double kicks--I feel like I'm shaking my knee and ankle or something and I don't like that feeling. I really like my tap-kick method.

Judy, I may have to look up that show too. I loved a show last summer that was a dog trainer in NYC who helped owners with difficult behavioral issues with their dogs. City dogs just have multiple obstacles, and as a result, multiple neuroses. Some of the episodes were more about the owners than the dogs.

Hi to Valerie and Josie!

Good evening ladies!

This morning was ruthless wicked lower body and tonight was the rest of chest and back. Slept better last night and going to bed early tonight. I find one night of no sleep takes a lot out of me.

Girls are talking about starting up with our afternoon workouts. We stopped for the summer and has really taking a while to get going again considering it is January! Always something going on. Our goal is to start next week so we will see.

Lynda...I have only done PRS2 once and remembered liking it. I finally found PRS1 a few weeks back. If you remember I had no idea where I put it. Well it was with my old dvd's that I never do anymore..taebo, kathy smith etc. I laughed when I found it. Thanks for the pointers on the meat. Very interesting. Never realized what cage free meant.

Deb...I will send you a pm with my email address. Would love the Flextrain list. Thanks for doing this.

My husband and I bought an inversion table this weekend. It is actually his xmas present. He wanted to try one out before we purchased and we did not get to do so until recently. We went to a friends house who had one and he loved it! Hoping this does wonders for him as he is pretty excited about it. It is being delivered tomorrow and I get the job of putting it together. I am better at these things than him. ;)

Hi to Judy, Josie and Valerie!

Good morning!

Workout done, KC< Trim Down #2. It feels good to be able to get up and do this again.

Garance, I remember that show with the dog trainer that went to the people's homes and helped them with dog behavior problems. I really liked it a lot, and was sad that it didn't get renewed. I can't remember the name for the life of me though. Thanks for the tips on finding the right farmer etc.

Lori, I agree with you....I have found that sleep is one of the most important things for your health. Let us know how your DH likes that inversion table. I hope it helps him.

Hi to Valerie, Josie and Judy,

Not much else going on here, work, then we have our dog club meeting tonight. I am on the fence about going, but I should because this is the one everyone will be bragging about their results at the show this past weekend, so I should go and brag about my Kylee-Girl...

Stay warm!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did XTrain Bis and Tris (45:38) and they feel pretty fried at the moment. I actually tried 20 lb. dumbbells for my bis and after 10 reps I wondered what insane asylum had let me out. Cathe is a beast.

Lori, I really enjoy PRS 1 now that I know the combos and I prefer it to PRS 2 because there is so much less impact. I try to take a lot of the impact out of PRS 2 and I completely modify combo 6--no way am I doing Spiderman jumps and turns on the step. What is the inversion table for--back problems? I just don't know.

Deb, I think maybe it was called Dogs in the City, but I can't remember for certain. Yes, you should definitely go and brag about Kylee.

Judy, I DVR'd Pit Bulls and Parolees after reading some reviews on Amazon. Sounds like I might like it.

Hi to Josie and Valerie!

we rode yesterday, a street ride. only 14 miles but we haven't ridden in a while and waited til afternoon. it went fine, will do a longer one tomorrow. drove to the mountains hoping to ski today but the snow is awful and hardly any of it in "drivable " range. we don't care for skiing from the downhill ski areas and the snow level is very high right now, and the snow itself was horrible clumpy stuff. so will bike instead.
It's very spring like outside now with things coming up and buds swelling etc. lots of things blooming already like heather, sarcococca, primroses, witch hazel, Lenten roses. and of course, winter weeds.

Judy the memory care places are set up to organize activities and not give residents too many choices. most old people just won't bother if it's too challenging or complicated, but the staff comes in and suggests a walk, helps them get ready, then they go for a walk. it helped my aunt get oriented and make some friends and get mobile again. the plain assisted living didn't do that. they checked on her but let her sit if she didn't have the idea to go for a walk herself. Big difference!

Inversion table sounds interesting....

20 lbs for biceps.... I think I did some STS moves with 20's, for over head presses and flys. NOT for curls... Doesn't hurt to try and go lighter when it gets too hard.

Hi Ladies,

On Sunday I did a 35 mile ride, took Monday off on Tuesday I did a hard core class at the gym which reminded me of Insanity and today I went to an hour spin class :). The instructor was trying to kill us ;)

Deb, congratulations to Kylee and yes, you should go to your meeting and brag.

Garance and Judy, I just watched an episode of Pit Bulls and Parolees. I like it!

Lori, my DH was thinking of getting one of those tables. Let us know how our D H likes it.

Hi to Judy and Valerie!
