Good morning,

Getting ready to head to DC, I have my clothes layed out, but not packed yet. It's cold and raining there today, ugh.

Garance, sleeping in is so nice. Didn't happen today though. Same ole', same ole' for us last night, or should I say early this morning?

Valerie, you and your DH amaze me at the things you do like putting in appliances. Doesn't the store that you purchase from do that as part of the sale? The hotel, being The Ritz has pretty nice equipment. For the prices they charge, they had better!;)

in case you didn't see this....xTrain teaser>>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTal0iijs6w&feature=youtu.be
It's DH's birthday today, took him out for breakfast, and he got some sponge candy from the dogs. :D

I will be MIA until probably Thursday, so hope everyone has a good week!

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning I did KCM's Plateau Busters (45 min.).

Finished watching the first season of Homeland last night. It was excellent. Off to see Arbitrage this afternoon.

Gee, Deb, maybe this will be your opportunity to sleep with the sleep killers at home, and you at the Ritz. Have a great trip! I have friends coming from Minnesota on Wednesday, so I may not be checking in later.

Hope you have the right stove, Valerie! What a pain if it's not and you have already managed to install it. Your appliance woes remind me of an avant-garde installation in NYC several years ago where the room was filled with appliances, all working on their own. Vacuums travelling around, irons steaming, toasters popping. I think it was meant to satirize Americans' love of all gadgetry, but it felt more sinister than funny.

Thanks for the link, Deb!

Hi to whom-ever shows up--

This morning I did KCM's Cardio Quick Fix, both workouts (45 min.).

Arbitrage was really good. Even though Richard Gere plays a reprehensible character, you end up wanting for him to succeed. I won't give away any spoilers.

Very chilly here, and I wish the sun would come out.

Happy Columbus day!

Hi Ladies,

My visit with the peanuts was great! I wish me and DS could have stayed longer.
I also had a good time driving and catching up with my DS.

I will be spinning at lunch and then doing a sculpt class tonight.

Garance, did you start working on you jacket yet?

Hi to Valerie and Joan!

Josie

Hi Josie--

This morning I did High Reps upper body premix (39 min.).

Josie, I have ordered all of the materials for my jacket and skirt. I think I will make a muslin first to be sure no alterations need to be made, and then do the pencil skirt first, which should go quickly. It sounds like you thoroughly enjoyed your "peanuts."

I have been reading Ken Follett's new novel about WWII. This trilogy just isn't as good as the Pillars of the Earth and World Without End about the Middle Ages, but I do like some of the characters and it's an easy way to re-visit 20th c. history. Very old friend is comiing for a visit tomorrow. Should be fun.

Good news/bad news. I was right about the stove. the salesman was totally wrong. I talked to the sales mgr there and said I will keep it even tho it does not have the wonderful new "aqual lift" technology that makes cleaning a breeze, fast and non stinky.
the fact is, I don't clean my oven often..... maybe twice a year. I don't cook meat so it doesnt get spattered with grease from roasting/broiling. if I have a pie run over that's about the worst. and once a year I make a turkey for thanksgiving.

It's stainless with a very large black glass door and black glass display. not that much "stainless" I'm stunned at how much nicer it looks than the white one. DH never liked stainless so I stayed with white but this was an eye opener. looks so much better.

Deb it's not usually hard to install appliances. we have a hand truck. I'm reasonably strong. appliances are not that heavy, just bulky. the wiring connections are not hard, DH does them. we redid the whole cabinet ourselves 10 years ago. We had a combo oven/microwave that died and I would NEVER EVER ( did I say never?) get that combo again, so we divided the cabinet into a shelf for a micro and a separate wall oven.
Delivery would have cost $150 and a wait until this coming Wed to have them do it, and it took us about an hour. Now, a refer I'd have delivered. not real sure the two of us could manage that, and there's the old one that has to go somewhere.

Back when I was working I demo'd big, boxy, heavy stuff and I learned two people working together can handle most things. angles, leverage et I worked with a bunch of guys so I was sure not to be a wimp.

Our weekend was great... we did the oven Sat, then packed the camper and drove to the mts. did a gorgeous 11 mile hike on sunday ( 8 hours) and an equally gorgeous one 5 hours, 7 miles, on monday. we haven't had measurable rain here since july 22. this weekend will finally get wet, maybe even friday. I'm looking forward to it, this is the longest dry stretch here on record.

Saw the previews on Arbitrage, and look forward to that one. love richard gere. saw one of the most stupid movies I've seen in years, the Grey with Liam neeson. pathetically stupid-bad-dumb. eff this, eff that, endless and idiotic.
deb, have a good trip. Josie, glad you had a good visit with son & peanuts! Joan, how are your workouts going?

I'm still alive but just. I can't get rid of this cold. Or sort of cold, drippy nose and headache and just feel soooooo tired. I haven't missed any day of 30 min on treadmill or the twice a week weights. I am still only at 65-70lb for bench press. I did lose 2 inches on waist in 6 weeks with only losing 4lb.

I have a partial day off today but used it to take my mother out to lunch and to get her flu shot. It is an all day project.

Hi Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did the lesser impact on Crossfire (56 min.).

I just returned from sclerotherapy. Not fun, but not too painful. Lots of little needles in my veins. Back on with the compression stocking. I hope I don't have to do this again on my right leg. December I do the big vein in my left leg. This is turning into a lengthy process. Maybe by the time I go to the Jersey Shore next July my legs will be spider-vein free.

Valerie, I hope you enjoy your stove. Mine is stainless steel as well with a big black glass oven door. What's distinctive about the Thermidor is the star-shaped burners which really distribute the heat.

Joan, 65-70 lbs. on a bench press is nothing to sneeze at. You should be proud of yourself and the regimen you are sticking to. When your cold is gone, I bet you will be very pleased with hanging on to all of your gains (or maybe losses is a better word).

Hi to Josie!

Hi,

I am back home, and tired from the long day, but will try to get to agility class tonight. Waiting for DH to get home from work so we can go together. If he isn't here by 7:30, I may go alone with just Keegan.

Will post more in the am...

Did another big hike yesterday. RT only 8 miles but it is steep... 4000 feet gain in 4 miles. and no water. I've never been on this one when at least one stream was running but totally dry this year. took us about 7 hours with about 45 min for lunch on top. lovely views 360 degrees. we will get rain on friday and then on and on.

and then back to the reaL world.... tuesday I turned on my new oven ( we were gone sunday and mon) and it wouldn't heat. (I baked something in it saturday to test it, and it had worked fine). It's convection... neither the regular heat cycle nor the convection cycle worked. heated to 180 degrees according to the display but did NOT feel even that warm. so I got on the phone to the dealer and was unable to set up a service appt until monday. I tried to call them Wed (while we were hiking) but the call kept getting dropped. so we got home at 3 yesterday and it turns out they'd sent someone anyway, even though they could not reach me. Nice try but waste of time and energy with no one there to let the guy in. so the dealer gets points for its efforts but I still have no oven until monday..... but I'm expecting the appt will just determine which part is failing, probably some electronic board, which will need to be ordered. I am really getting disappointed in the quality of electronics.
I have a decent size toaster oven so tuesday I baked dinner in it since I'd made a polenta dish and didn't turn on the oven until it was ready to bake... surprise, no heat.

Lynda the leg procedure sounds more complicated than I thought it was. the ads make it sound liek one stop shopping.

Joan, 65-70 yes that is a lot! I do 60 but am a little uneasy about going higher without a spotter. I guess if the 8 reps feels easy I'll try going up. I went up to 60 on incline presses without a problem ..... I worry about not getting the bar on the rack if I over reach, with no one here to bail me out!

Hi all,

I could not get moving today, only got a few things done, and feel like a slug. I think the travel is more tiring that it seems, plus class last night was not as good as I had hoped. Keegan was not cooperating at all, and I was messing up too. Oh well, tomorrow night will hopefully be better.

Valerie, your appliances have a mind of their own!

Joan, to be able to lift that weight is impressive!

Garance, are you back to having to do only upper body for a while?

Sorry for the short post, I am so tired for some reason, I think I will try to get a short nap in.

Good morning,

I did get a nap in, and then slept more on the couch after dinner. Not sure what is going on with this, hope I am not coming down with something.

I have to drop off a sample at the vet, then meeting my friend for breakfast,

Anyone have any exciting plans for the weekend?

Have a great day!

good morning... Deb, travel tires you out more than you think. you are probably behind on sleep, just let yourself catch up by whatever way possible. I used to come home after several days of travel, go to bed early and sleep 12 hours to catch up.

Rain today and probably for much of the next week. strange after such a long gap with none. the weekend will probably be catch-up things. we harvested most of the last of the garden yesterday. we have one hubbard squash that weighs 65 lbs. not quite sure how to handle it. once it's cut I need to do something with all of it fairly quickly. usually they are 30-35 lbs.... this will be interesting. it's on the floor in the garage and will stay there. I washed it outside with the hose since it won't go into any sink. I picked it up and moved it into the garage but it's VERY heavy, round and slippery.... not balanced like a barbell.

we might get in a bike ride, depending. Deb, have you been able to ride regularly? the county here just opened another segment of the bike trail we often use, a new segment about 5 miles long that I hear ( my neighbor rode it yesterday) is beautiful. we'll hike until the snow level drops, but this time of year I start looking at indoor exervise again. some years we've hiked into Jan but most years things start to close up by Nov. then there's a "lag time" when not enough snow to ski/snowshoe but too much snow to hike.

Everyone watch the debate last night?? really good..... Biden was aggressive and interesting. martha ( moderator) was excellent, kept things under control and moving, way better than Jim Lehrer did. she had much more specific questions and kept things focused better. Hope the next presidential debates are kept focused more like this one.

Good morning,

well I am ready to leave for the trial, Keegan has to be "officially" measured for his jump height before he can run.

Valerie, a 65 lb squash?? You could probably enter it and win a contest! When they are that big are they stil flavorful? We have not been on a bike ride in a while, weekends have been hectic. I did not watch the debate, but listened to a lot of the comments on talk shows etc. Most commented on how maniacle Biden was acting, crazy laughing at inappropriate times, smurking, very "non VP" like. I just know that if (God forbid) anything were to happen and he had to step in as President, we'd be in real trouble. That's it... No more polictal rants.

On a lighter note, when will your stove be fixed? I would push for a new one...

Garance, are you out of commission because of the leg procedure?

Will check back later, take care,

Think they need to be bigger for contests.... people grow a special type of pumpkin to get the really huge ones. this is big enough, thank you. it's probably heavier than that but I'm setting it on an old batheoroom scale and it's hanging way off the sides. I've never had one anywhere near this big so I don't know if it will be good.... need to let it "cure" for a while. I start using home grown squash late Nov. but once I cut into this one..... I have a few days to cook all of it to store it, or else dump it. cut squash gets moldy quickly. and it takes up vast refrigerator space after cutting. butternut and acorn squash are a lot easier to handle..we have some of those too. hubbards keep very well and always grow even in a ccool summer year.

I though Biden came on a little heavy handed but was revved up, kind of like Romney was in the first debate. Obama was so widely criticized for his less aggressive tone...one that I thought was calm and presidential, but a lot of people thought he was too passive, that I think this was a something of a response to that criticism. Politics has gotten so disturbing I can't wait until the elections are over. Please, that's not a "rant". the person who got the most positive comments was Martha the moderator!

the stove will get looked at on monday and unless this is very simple I'm going to pitch a fit. I really can't do without an oven for long and if my DW repair was an example, it can really drag out if parts need to be ordered.

forgot to say, I did disk 27 yesterday. increased weight a little on a couple moves, not all. also that link to the preview of the new series was cute.
