Pentagenarians & Beyond: May 18, 2025

This morning I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga, morning energy practice for 18 minutes.

Valerie, great job with the spin bike warm up, therapy work, half of Stacked Sets Upper Body, 20 minutes on elliptical, push ups, and stretching. What a nice variety of exercises.

Hello to Judy, Diane Sue, Cathy, and Shannon.

Hi all, it's been a crazy week. Visited Derek's zoo, and one of the keepers gave us a free behind the scenes with the otters, which was really fun. Weather turned nasty Thursday, but that was get an oil change day, and reorganize all my stuff, while Derek worked 1-7. From Sunday in MN till I got up yesterday in NE it was insanely windy. Drove North and South Dakota in dreary rain, rain stopped by Nebraska and there were dust storms. That was a first for me to drive through. Spent the night just a little ways into Kansas. First part of my drive in Kansas and Oklahoma was good, but o_O Oklahoma City is endless and the construction. Ugh! From that point all the way to Nick's traffic was crazy (and it was Saturday). Slow downs, an accident. Told them, the two days were day and night as there was so little traffic the first day. When I got here Momma cat and the four kittens were all here, but the roommate took one kitten yesterday and she's taking the Mom today. The kittens are at that total monster stage right now. Adorable but monsters. LOL This morning I did Live Crush It Low Impact, Core with Yoga Blocks Express and Restorative Yoga. I should be able to workout every day here. Derek's place was just too small. It's really one room, with the tiniest kitchen in it, and a bathroom. He's getting a cat Monday, but it's a 4 year old whose owner recently passed away, and needs a quiet environment. Should do fine.

Valerie sorry to hear your husband will need a knee replacement. Hopefully the brace helps him until that happens. We were very careful the couple times we had to pass bison and we were in a car!

We did our park walk this morning with DH using his temporary brace. seemed to help but it switches the stresses elsewhere so probably not good long term. took an hour 23 minutes going a little slower than usual its 2.5 miles with hills and a bathroom stop and a couple chats a couple told us they saw whales there a week ago. nothing today. .

cathy bison can do serious damage to vehicles too. without even trying! a long time ago we were looking at property in Montana using my old subaru. there were a couple horses walking around and one nudged the front side of the car with his nose. just nudged, didnt kick it or even push hard.. put a permanent dent in it. even stopped, a bison, if he's ticked off, could do major damage. and they are always pissed off! there was something on the news yesterday about the chicago area getting a dust storm.. weird..

This morning I did Cardio Party, timesaver #10. That was 36 minutes, 259 calories burned, average heart rate 136, and maximum heart rate 162.

Valerie, nice job with the park walk.

Hello to everyone and have a wonderful day.

Hi everyone. Let's see. I had a busy day Saturday. I washed all the siding on my house with a long handled car brush and a bucket of soapy water. I cleaned the screens, too. My house isn't all that big, but it still took three hours. Then I mowed and weed ate my yard, and weed ate my mom's house. I made myself stretch that evening because I really needed it. Yesterday was much calmer, and I did LMR Functional Mobility.

Carolyn - Nice work on the yoga and Cardio Party. Thanks for getting us started!

Cathy - My goodness, your week was crazy. One minute rain, the next a dust storm. Okay, not literally a minute, but you know what I mean. Talk about extremes! I'm sorry you had to deal with OKC construction. Not fun, not one little bit.

Valerie - Tell your husband to get that knee fixed. I know, I know. Nobody really wants surgery. But he sure doesn't need to create another problem as he tries to endure the pain.
Oh, we had a whopper of a thunderstorm last night. Talk about pyrotechnics! Extremely loud with lots of lightning and thunder. I think it's supposed to fire up again tonight, but hopefully it will stay north of us. Not that those people deserve it either.

Hello to Judy and Diane. See y'all tomorrow.

This morning I did Live Boxing Hiit Express and LITE Bodyweight and Bands. I've certainly been enjoying my time of minimal housekeeping. Though I'm not sure what I will find when I arrive home. Between there being a day and a half power outage, and DH working, especially the day I get home, I'm leery. LOL Quiet day here as Nick had things to do, but the kittens have kept me entertained. The go full tilt for 2-3 hours and then crash in a pile for a long nap.

Valerie using a brace can definitely just shift issues. I had scope surgery done on my knee back in '88 (old cheerleading injury as I was 27 at the time.) As it got worse and I was still working out, I was using a brace and ended up creating a problem by shifting how I moved, which thankfully didn't last forever, in my other knee. Even so, it's took a year or more after surgery before that knee got back to full function.

I worked 8 hours on Saturday and got over 16,000 steps in. Yesterday I did 30 minutes of Full Body Strength and an hour of Yin Yoga and stretching. Today I did a 30-minute Peloton Interval Ride. We are starting the ½ bath remodel in the next week or so. We still have to pick out the tile then we will schedule a start date.

Carolyn-Great job with Jane Adams Gentle Yoga, morning energy practice and Cardio Party, timesaver #10.

Cathy-Great job with Live Crush It Low Impact, Core with Yoga Blocks Express, Restorative Yoga, Live Boxing Hiit Express and LITE Bodyweight and Bands. It sounds like you are having a good trip.

Valerie-Great job with your park walk.

Shannon-Great job with all the work you did this weekend and with LMR Functional Mobility.

Hi to Diane Sue

Today I did CDorner Cardio to the Beat Low or High Impact Rock Music, 30 minutes, 215 calories, heart rate 144/164, 2,088 steps. This workout was 43 minutes but I skipped the kickboxing segment. I then did CDorner, Leg Stretch and then her neck and shoulder stretch from her 30 day challenge, 29 minutes total, 51 calories. Total time 59 minutes, 266 calories. I see my arthritis dr Wednesday so no workout then.
We had family over yesterday and celebrated my youngest grandson's birthday yesterday.

Cathy, you were lucky you was not in Oklahoma on Saturday. We had huge hail coming down. A couple of them I picked up were baseball size. They are always doing road work in Oklahoma City. My husband was amazed at some changes when we went down I 35 to go to get my mri in Edomond.
Nice job on Live Boxing Hiit Express and LITE Bodyweight and Bands.

Judy, good job on 30 minutes of Full Body Strength and an hour of Yin Yoga and stretching yesterday and today's 30-minute Peloton Interval Ride.

Shannon, I bet you did really need a stretch after scrubbing the outside of your house. We had a house once that we used a power washer to clean. Most houses around here are brick. Mowing and weed eating too!! I would be dead tired after all of that. Good job on the LMR functional mobility Saturday. We have had quite a few thunderstorms lately. Before the hailstorm came in Saturday, Harvey and I were sitting outside and watching the lightening as the storm was building. It was weird as soon after the hail and some rain the sun came out.

Valerie, I hope your husband can get his leg taken care of so he can enjoy doing the walking and riding that you do. NIce job on getting in a park walk.

Carolyn, nice work on Cardio Party.

Good morning, ladies. Yesterday I did weights on my own, followed by STS 2.0 metabolic core.

Cathy - It sounds like your vacation from house work is a lot like a vacation from office work. You enjoy the time away, but then wonder if it really was worth it when you get back to the mess, LOL. I'm glad you are enjoying the cute little kittens.

Judy - You've done some great workouts - including the 16,000 steps at Home Depot. I'm sure your feet were worn out after that. More home reno, huh? Well, maybe it won't take too long since it's just a half bath.

Diane - Whew, I can't even imagine baseball-sized hail! I saw some video of tornadoes in the region, and in Kentucky. It's awful. My dad has a pressure washer, but it's way too much trouble to haul it to my house and get it set up. I do wish I'd built with brick instead of vinyl siding because it's easier to maintain, but I think my white house is so pretty.

Hello to Valerie and Carolyn.

This morning I did Strong and Sweaty Total Body Giant Sets, a timesaver premix. My time was 38 minutes with 128 calories burned, average heart rate 108, and maximum heart rate 134.

Shannon, you had a very busy weekend! Great job with LMR Functional Mobility, your own weight workout, and STS 2 Metabolic Core.

Cathy, it‘s good that you can get your workouts done while you are on vacation. Nice job with Live Boxing HiiT Express and LiTE Body Weights and Bands.

Judy, great job with Full Body Strength, Yin Yoga, stretching, and Peloton Interval ride.

Diane Sue, nice job with CDorner Cardio, leg stretch, and neck and shoulder stretch. I’m glad that you had a good family day over the weekend.

Hello to Valerie.

Cathy he is finding out quickly that he can make other areas sore using a brace but stops before its an issue. we are expecting the final brace this week but its coming fed ex and we dont have tracking. he sees surgeon this Friday & i cant tell you how much I am looking forward to that!!! he seems to be mad at the world because of a human equipment failure. He keeps saying Im not helping him decide what to do and I keep replying we need to take to the man who knows the most before we decide what to do. no matter how fit you are or how hard or carefully you work, things eventually break or wear out. Ive had my share of issues for sure. i can see it in myself. even cathe has had her "system" failures and we sometimes think of her as bulletproof. no.

my friend in MSP showed me pics of huge hail stones. not round, very uneven but big. they fell near her area recently. we get our share of wind and rain but not hail thunder and lightning. no tornadoes. no hurricanes. always a possible earthquake though.

shannon all that house work adds up to significant work.

If any of you get Apple TV the Friends and Neighbors series running now is really enjoyable. Jon Hamm and Amanda Peet. it releases one episode a week so its not all available yet.

This morning I did Live Low Impact Hiit w/Active Recovery. The recovery moves are all core based. Then I did Stretch Max with the band. After that we went to the Fort Worth Zoo. Derek's got his cat yesterday and she's turned out to be, shall we say unique. She can get on the fridge, knocked the toaster off it. Toaster is now under the sink. She likes sinks and has laid in both the kitchen and bathroom ones. Has laid I the tub. Knocked the trash over a number of times. Definitely not boring. LOL Nick's down to 3 kittens and two will be going to homes in the next couple days and then only his will be left. I have as much stuff in the car already as I can, and hope to head out around 6 tomorrow.

Diane Sue, I was happy to miss that storm in Oklahoma. That size hail would really do a number on cars.

Valerie I hope your DH gets some answers Friday. I'm a firm believer that when it comes to things like surgery people need to make the decision they are comfortable with, but then my DH wouldn't listen to me anyway.

Carolyn I haven't worked out as much as I'd have liked, mostly because it just wouldn't work at Derek's, but at least I've done some.

Shannon I'm hoping for the best, expecting the worst as far as the condition of the house when I get home. LOL

Judy I hope the next stage of your remodel goes smoothly.

Today I did LMR Barre Fusion lower body only mix and added some biceps curls and hammer curls with just 10# dbs. Then I did my own stretch. Hopefully my arthritis doctor is helpful tomorrow.
I forgot to mention that with family over off and on the last two weeks, Harvey now is comfortable with people and lets them pet him. Also, he loved when my son bought over his dog and my granddaughter bought over her new dog. My son's dog is used to us as we watch him when they go out of town and they always watched Gertie. He just came in and ran out the doggie door like he was at home and Harvey took off with him. So, Harvey had a playmate. I think he wore Kermit out though. Kermit always wore Gertie out.

Cathy, nice work on Low Impact Hiit with active recovery.

Valerie, things do tend to break down with age. It is hard to accept though. Especially when we are active and attentive to healthy eating and lifestyle. I find it upsetting that this loss of bone density and fractures are chronic. I went over the last 3 bone scans and T7 was mentioned. The MRI was probably a good idea. All of the bone building supplements and me tracking calcium intake has not helped. Hopefully
meds or something can help slow the arthritis progress down. I hope your husband can make a decision that works for him.

The biggest piece of hail was a chunk with points on it. I imagine not good for hitting vehicles and roofs. Sirens were going and I am sure there were people out there on the road.

Shannon, nice job on weight on your own and STS 2 metabolic core.

Carolyn, good job on Strong and Sweaty Total Body Giant Sets timesaver.

Good morning. Yesterday I did After Burn. I skipped the stretch because I knew I needed a longer one, which I did after dinner. Wow, of all the amazing things, we didn’t have a thunderstorm last night. It was very nice to sleep through the night, LOL.

Carolyn - nice job with Strong & Sweaty Total Body Giant Sets.

Valerie – I’m sorry DH is having trouble dealing with his “system failure,” as you called it. I hope the visit to the doc helps him come to terms with it. Yes, it does suck, that’s for sure.

Cathy – It sounds like Derek is going to have his hands full with the new cat. I’m glad Nick found a home for his kittens. I hope you have a safe drive home.

Diane – I hope you get some helpful info from your doctor today. Loss of bone density means osteoporosis, right? I don’t think there’s much you can do about that, I’m really sorry to say. I hope I’m wrong. That’s great news about Harvey. I’m really glad he’s settling into his new home.

Hello to Judy.

yesterday I did a 30 min spin and all therapy work. this morning we did a 80 min walk, with DH all braced and doing ok.
women have more health care needs younger than men. we get used to seeing health care professionals. what totally knocked me for a loop was a pacemaker at a fairly young age. i was in denial for a while about what I needed and simply could not/would not believe that with all the exercise and good food and only being 55 I could have a problem like that. i thought it was humiliating and embarrassing. I got pretty sick multiple times and once barely, and I mean BARELY, made it off a remote peak when my heart rate dropped so low again and again I thought I might not make it out. for whatever reason I could go months with no problems, and then have a spell where my heart rate dropped extremely low or stopped repeatedly. there wasnt even a trail there and DH could not carry me, the weather forecast was not good. I passed out, almost passed out, vomited multiple times getting off the mountain. it was several very rough miles. when we got to the car I felt OK again. that trip convinced me i needed the surgery. it was the first time I understood body parts could fail and you could not fake or BS your way out of it. or deny it.
DH has not had an issue like this before so i think this is a mental adjustment to needing a fix. the back surgery decision was not easy either.

Diane sue there are drugs used to treat osteoporosis. the inter connection between bone loss/gain can be related to the endocrine system. its not always as direct as taking more calcium. Endocrinology is a medical specialty. hope your rheumatologist can find something to help and that you are willing to give them a try if you need to. Im nervous taking Plaquenil but i think some joint symptoms are getting better and its not been very long.

our friend and neighbor just visited with her new puppy.. he is an 8 week old Heeler. OMG he is cute!! absolutely adorable. all puppies are cute I know!

We had a terrible storm last night. Our power went out at 3:30 a.m. and was off until 2:30 this afternoon. Cable and internet just came back an hour ago. It was a strange day.

Cathy, great job with Live Low Impact HiiT w/Active Recovery and Stretch Max.

Diane Sue, great job with LMR Barre Fusion lower body only.

Shannon, great job with After Burn.

Valerie, great job with 30 minutes of spinning, therapy work, and the 80 minute walk.

Hello to Judy.

Good morning, ladies. I did PHA3 yesterday. I had planned to do one of the “extreme” premixes, but once I got into it, I decided the regular workout was quite enough. So I stopped the DVD at that point and did a stretch like I did the other day, after dinner.

Valerie – Good work on the spin, therapy work and walk. Your story about needing the pacemaker and that hike is pretty incredible. Actually it sounds quite horrendous. I sure am glad you made it home – and to the doctor. I totally understand your feelings of denial. I felt the same way when I found out I had high blood pressure. What the heck? Me? I exercise, eat a healthy diet and don’t have a lot of stress. Excuse me, but DAMN. That’s not even fair. It still makes me mad. Yes, puppies are so cute! Probably the cutest babies on the planet, LOL.

Carolyn – I’m really sorry about the bad storm and power outage. That’s a long time to be without power. Isn’t it amazing how our lives come to a screeching halt? We sure do rely on electricity a lot. I’m glad you didn’t have any storm damage.

Hello to Judy, Cathy and Diane.

Shannon that's exactly what im talking about! I had problems before but they were deniable. when we got back to the car I felt ok again but we talked on the way home, a long difficult drive, about what i had to do next. it really wasn't over yet. before getting the pacer they had to be sure that was the issue so I had to wear a holter monitor for several months before they captured the arrhythmia on record. it wasnt something that happened often.
your BP is a lot like DH. he has always had BP issues and was taking a lot of meds for it and was doing "all the right things" otherwise. just like you, eating right, exercising, stress reduction, etc etc. he had an event a few months ago that landed us in the ER. he is now on a lot more medication and better control. b ut it was a hard place to get to. Yep, totally unfair!
now I want a puppy!! but no, clearer minds will prevail and i will enjoy our friends' puppy and let it go at that.

carolyn such a difficult thing. its eye opening to realize how everything stops when the power is out. we now havea small generator but getting it up and running is not simple. " no power" makes you appreciate it. we get reminded regularly here especially fall and winter but trees here fall down and can cause one any time of year. And now the effing idiot is proceeding with dismantling FEMA. we dont get hurricanes here but plenty of people do. tornadoes. wildfires. earthquakes. this is one of the most monumentally stupid things ever.

off to mt bike for a while.

Tuesday I did a 45-minute Peloton Full Body Strength workout, yesterday I did a 45-minute Peloton Walk at a good pace (4-4.5 mph) and 45 minutes of Yin Yoga. The weather has been unpleasant this week, cold and rainy. Not good days to be outside.

Diane Sue-Great job with CDorner Cardio, CD Dorner Stretches, LMR Barre Fusion lower body only mix and your stretches. I hope your appt with the arthritis doctor went well yesterday. That’s wonderful news about Harvey. He has really made a lot of progress.

Shannon-Great job with your weights, STS 2.0 metabolic core, After Burn, and PHA 3. The half bath is probably going to take a week. Not bad at all compared to the full bath last year that took over 4 weeks.

Carolyn-Great job with Strong and Sweaty Total Body Giant Sets. I’m sorry about the storm and power outage. I’m glad your power is back now.

Valerie- Great job with your 30 min spin, therapy work, and 80 min walk.

Cathy- Great job with Live Low Impact Hiit w/Active Recovery and Stretch Max.
