Pentagenarians & Beyond: January 25, 2026

Well, our weather is about to be a repeat of last weekend with snow, ice, and very cold temperatures. I could do without these winter storms! My husband’s health took a turn for the worse and he is in the hospital. I was there yesterday and today. He is stable but will be there for several days.

Diane Sue, I’m sorry that your husband slipped on the ice. I hope that he is okay.

Great job with the workouts everybody.

This morning I did KCM’s Power Splits, Lower Body without using weights. That was 30 minutes, 165 calories burned, average heart rate 127, and maximum heart rate 153. I came home earlier today so that I could stop at the store and get ready for the winter storm.

Have a good day everyone and stay safe.

Yesterday was a rest day. Today I did Live #562 Upper Body Heat Wave, a 45 minute easy walk on the treadmill and 45 minutes of Yin Yoga.

Cathy-Great job with STS2 Mat Yoga.

Valerie-Great job with your park walk.

Carolyn-Great job with KCM’s Power Splits, Lower Body. I hope the storm doesn’t get too bad for you. It’s good that you went to the store.

Hi to Diane Sue

I did therapy 2x and Stacked upper body today. mild temps 50-ish- and rainy today and tomorrow probably too. Carolyn getting supplies ahead of time is the best plan. I don't leave shopping to the last minute. we have (in a way) lucked out this year by not having any true winter weather. it could still happen but the later in the season it gets, the less likely. we will be at much greater risk for fires later without a good snowpack. Hope your husband is comfortable, stabilized and doing ok in the hospital.

Nothing yesterday because Thursday I must have eaten something that didn't agree with me and spent all of yesterday with my gut painful and bloated. Sat/laid around and ate bland foods. Was able to sleep last night and it's still sore, but I had a small smoothie for breakfast and I did the latest Live Sweat and Shine Kickboxing. I liked it overall, but I've not keen on the ones where she puts a no gloves leg drill section in the middle. Hoping to get to my parents tomorrow as we had no snow overnight and none expected today or tomorrow. Like yesterday we are getting some sun today, which is helping the roads. It's clear in front of our house, but that's not always the best view. And WOW we are supposed to be sunny and 24 tomorrow!

Valerie the MDOT app doesn't show specific road conditions, but it has speeds, cameras and accidents. Snowplow cameras are the best but they have to be actively out. I always try to have extra food on hand so that if we can stuck do to weather, we're good. Lots of dried beans and rice.

Carolyn I'm so sorry that your husband is in the hospital. I hope this storm doesn't hit you very hard.

Hi Judy and Diane Sue.

Today I managed to get in a 16 minute upper body workout using mostly 10# dbs except for lateral raises which I used 8's for. This was 70 calories and I followed with an upper body mobility stretch osteoporosis friendly with no twisting or rounding the back, 19 minutes, 63 calories. Total time 35 minutes, 133 calories. I had to get the house ready for a showing. I am going to be busy as Sunday I need to empty the freezer side of my refrigerator for a repair and clean up for another house showing on Monday. I doubt I get anything in on Monday.

Carolyn, I am sorry that your husband took a turn for the worst. That is rough. I sure hope we do not get another bout of freezing weather and snow. Good idea to get to the store before another bout of bad weather. Nice work on KCM Power Splits Lower Body.

Judy, good job on Live # 562 Upper Body Heat Wave and Yin Yoga.

Valerie, nice job on PT and Stacked Sets Upper Body. Weather around here is generally mild, but every few years we get a bout of bad weather along with ice.

Cathy, I am glad you are feeling a bit better. Good job on Live Sweat and Shine Kickboxing. I always put my gloves on loosely so it is easier to get them off and on. I know what you mean when there is segments with no gloves in the middle. Your mention of beans makes me think how badly I react to beans. Even when I have soaked with kombu prior. They just don't agree. I would have the kind of stomach you had. I have been having problems with some breads. I think gluten is a problem as well. I was going to get some buckwheat sourdough bread from Whole Foods, but it was out of stock.

I did more grocery shopping this morning after picking up a prescription for DH. We keep a stash of foods water and extra clothing in an outside shed in case we ever have a major disaster here and every few years it needs replacing. then this afternoon our HOA had a big water problem with an ongoing water leak suddenly getting worse and requiring a water shut off to a group of homes until the break can be fixed. my neighbor (just had lung surgery) is one of the houses affected. she is on pain meds and cant lift anything > 10 lbs. the pain meds cause the usual constipation issue and so shes taking a lot of meds for that. not a good time to be unable to flush your toilet! DH and I got out some big jugs of water and drove them over and set them up in her kitchen and bathroom. water might be off for several days since a weekend is hard to find someone with large equipment to deal with this. they know approximately where the leak is but it wont be easy to access. anyway, my afternoon was taken over quickly and no workout today except therapy for half an hour.
