Pentagenarians & Beyond: January 25, 2026

This morning I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga for 18 minutes. It’s icy and cold here this morning but we have power—for now.

Diane Sue, great job with Senior Shape Walking workout and Arm Workout.

Cathy, nice job with Restorative yoga.

Valerie, nice job with Upper Body Pyramid and therapy work.

Hello to Judy.

I feel kinda guilty here with sunshine and cold but otherwise nice weather. didnt do anything yet today but will do some cardio shortly. there is a big football game here today that is monopolizing the news. not likely to get any "real" news today. Good to hear you are doing Ok so far Carolyn.

Carolyn I know too well! omg the hype is overwhelming. i'm not a sports fan. I used to be more interested, so I know reasonably well how the game is played etc. I just don't watch. I watch some of the Olympics but that's about the limit on sports for me. my husband doesn't watch it either.
the other thing is our neighbors love illegal fireworks, mostly the loud bombs. we dont need to watch TV to know if the Seahawks got a TD or if they won the game, it is loud!! (it must sound just like Minneapolis has lately). its fortunate the game is over pretty early so we dont need to lose sleep besides.

I did a long therapy session and then did the spin bike for 30 minutes. I watched cathes yoga workout and plan to do it soon. i am not sure but i dont see anything too hard in there.

so sorry Judy. if its dry fluffy snow that is at least pretty and good for sports if you do them, vs the freezing rain/sleet/ messy snow a lot of places are getting.

Yesterday I did a 30-minute Peloton ride and today I did # 571 Complete Upper Body & Live # 485 Weight Plate Abs. It looks like we got an additional 6 inches of snow today and we have another week of very cold temperatures coming.

Cathy-Great job with Live Metabolic Mix Up and Restorative Yoga. I hope you didn’t get too much snow today.

Carolyn-Great job with your walking, stretching and Jane Adams Gentle Yoga. I hope you don’t lose power.

Diane Sue-Great job with the Senior Shape workouts. I hope you did ok with the weather last night and today.

Valerie-Great job with the therapy work, upper body pyramids and spin.

Today I did a premix from Cardio Party. That was 29 minutes, 201 calories burned, average heart rate 133, and maximum heart rate 173. I modified some of the arm movements by keeping my arm lower to protect my wrist.

Valerie, it looks like your hometown team is going to the Super Bowl, so prepare yourself for more celebration! Great job with 30 minutes of spinning and the long therapy session.

Judy, great job with the 30 minute Peloton ride, Live Complete Upper Body, and Live Weight Plate Abs.

Hello to Cathy and Diane Sue.

oh sigh................... the stupidbowl. I'm not enthused. I do my best to ignore it. the ads used to be funny and worth seeking out but the last few years they haven't been very clever. we usually plan something outdoors to take advantage of fewer people around if the weather is halfway decent.

we walked the local park this morning, 80 minutes. therapy coming up this afternoon. i haven't worn a back brace in long time now.

no one is complaining much so the storm must have less difficult than predicted for everyone here.

carolyn, I gave up the idea of ever doing cardio party. it looks like so much fun but too many left feet here. i like to watch it while I'm spinning or on treadmill. it never looks that hard but then I try to do it and its all over.

Yesterday I did STS2 Total Body Stretch. This morning I did Live Timesaver Step Groove and LITE Body Weight and Bands. Every time I think I might be able to go shop the forecast shifts. So I'll assess things every morning until it works. Schools were closed again today and maps were showing the roads around Lansing were bad. DH went locally and got bird seed and cat food, but we're still okay on food for now.

Valerie I've never been a big football fan, only ad I've caught so far is the Budweiser Clydesdale ad that's on social media. Those are usually good. Might try to catch the Puppy Bowl, too. Were you talking about the yoga mat workout from STS2. I really like that one better than the older ones. There's a chair yoga one too that's pretty good.

Carolyn I'm glad you kept your power. Do you have damage from the ice storm. I've seen some pictures that are so sad to look at, and areas where it will take a long time to recover.

Judy we didn't get 6", but probably at least 4". Looks like we won't even hit 20 for another week, and several night with below zero temps.

Hi Diane Sue.

Saturday, I did a cardio and weights workout full body, 45 minutes, 164 calories, heart rate 100/141. Yesterday we went to see my new great grandbaby:D Today I did CDorner Step 80's and 90's music, first half adding on the stretch, 31 minutes, heart rate 123/157, 2,358 steps. I spent too much time outdoors trying to remove snow off the patio, so the dog and I do not slip when we are in and out. Unfortunately our snow shovel went out to my daughter's garage. No one has one available. We thought we would stop at Tractor supply to get one when visiting grandbaby, but my son said he was already there and all of the snow stuff was gone. Hopefully I can get in some weight workout tomorrow. They changed my dentist appointment to tomorrow.

Just did some stretching this morning and had this fun idea that today was the day I could manage to go shopping. Headed out, got on the highway and decided I really didn't want to drive on it all that way, so I took the first exit and went to the local Meijer. Haven't shopped there in 6 years and I didn't much before that. It's one of the smallest, may still be the smallest store they have, so a lot of things that I can find at the big one I usually shop at aren't available, and definitely not stuff I can get at WF and TJ. But, I found enough stuff to get us through for another week and a bit if necessary. Then I walked out to heavy, sideways snow and a snow covered car. Was VERY VERY glad I opted not to continue on to E. Lansing. Went into town and home, stayed off the highway. Our actual road wasn't really any worse than when I'd gone out, but because of the sideways snow, visibility was pretty bad at times. Fortunately I only met a handful of cars and had no one behind me.

Diane Sue I'm sure you're not alone in not being able to find things to deal with snow. I'm sure you loved being able to visit your new grand baby. Are you warmer now? I know Nick's up close to 40 today.

We walked the park again this morning. an hour 20 minutes. again very pleasant out but the rain is coming back tomorrow. upper 30's to start and probably mid forties now.

ooo no sideways snow is the worst kind! we get that in Montana because its always windy there and drifts cause problems along with bad visibility. most people there are decent drivers in snow, which helps but there is always the tourist factor. we might not deal with it at all this year. as soon as the "s word" gets uttered, its time to go to get supplies if you are lacking. especially places where snow is not a regular thing. we have a couple shovels and probably wont use them this year.

Yesterday was a rest day. Today I did a 30-minute Peloton Ride, 10 minutes of Arms & Light Weights and a 15-minute stretch.

Carolyn-Great job with the Cardio Party premix. I hope your wrist starts feeling better.

Valerie-Great job with your park walks. We didn’t have any issues from the storm, but we were only on the edge of it. No power outages that I know of around here.

Cathy-Great job with STS Total Body Stretch, Live Timesaver Step Groove, LITE Body Weight and Band and stretching. Hopefully it will warm up here later in February. The next week or so is going to be rough with the cold.

Diane Sue-Great job with cardio and weights and CDorner Step 80's and 90's music. I bet you loved seeing your new great grandbaby!

Today I did KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout one, 26 minutes, 174 calories burned, average heart rate 130, and maximum heart rate 150. Yesterday was taken up with various issues related to my husband’s medical care.

Valerie, great job with your park walks and therapy.

Cathy, great job with STS 2 Total Body Stretch, Live Timesaver Sep Groove, and LiTE Body Weight and Bands. I’m glad that you kept your shopping close to home.

Diane Sue, great job with Cardio and Weights Full Body and CDorner Step. How wonderful that you saw your new great grand baby.

Judy, great job with Peloton ride, weights, and stretching.

Today I did Stacked Sets Upper Body. Still babying my lower back, though it seems to have settled deep into my left glute. Stretching and heat seems to be helping, but I've never had it move into that area before.

Valerie Michigan likes to make jokes about how great they can drive in snow, but there are way too many jerks that want to drive too fast. There was a 20 vehicle pileup in Grand Rapids in the last couple days. Most people drive sensibly but all it takes is one.

Judy I'm glad you came through the storm okay. Since MI didn't get ice we were way better off here with the snow and the cold.

Carolyn did Georgia come through the storm without too much ice damage?

Hi Diane Sue.

Well there is always the smart ass with the giant 4WD truck or SUV who thinks they are exception to the rules of physics about objects in motion tending to stay in motion. Western WA is terrible that way especially the little 20-somethings in a big tearing hurry. plus it doesn't snow regularly here except in the mountains and its hilly. when it snows it is usually hovering around the freezing point. we do not get road condition reports on the WSDOT app. they wait until the problem is big before getting in motion.
Idaho Montana get plenty of snow and overall deal with it better Their DOTs handle snow better and keep the roads in good shape. they get plows and sanders out early and close down when necessary and have updating road condition reports on their apps. we drive those roads and respect what the road reports show. I keep one for each state we drive through. I learned early how to drive in snow and that is slowly and plan WAY ahead.

No workout today. My husband's feet went sliding on ice at work and he landed on his back. Work sent him to a place they use that is an urgent care. They said they couldn't do an x ray and sent us to another which said to come back in the morning:rolleyes: I got a snow shovel delivered today although we got a lot with a dustpan screwed to a broom handle. It got up to 44 today, but temps are dropping and wind coming up tomorrow. Still above freezing till tomorrow night and it will be in the teens.
There are crazy drivers. We pulled into Braums to get some water and things I couldn't get and someone decided to just back up without looking. My husband laid on the horn. They barely missed hitting us.

Yesterday I did 30 minutes of Peloton Arms & Shoulders, 50 minutes of easy walking on the treadmill and 10 minutes of stretching.

Carolyn-Great job with KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout one.

Cathy-Great job with Stacked Sets Upper Body. I hope your low back and glute feel better soon.

Diane Sue-I’m sorry about your husband’s fall. I hope he is ok. We have a lot of crazy drivers around here too.

Hi to Valerie

Today I did STS2 Mat Yoga. We may get flurries this afternoon, but not supposed to get anything noticeable.

Valerie we have access to a lot of road info here. There's a state wide road page on FB where you can ask about specific routes and people can post conditions. The upper peninsula has a page specific to that area. Plus the MDOT site shows speeds, accidents and cameras. Best way to see road conditions is when the plows are out as they have cameras that directly show the road in front of them up close. Plus several pages I'm on like the NMU parent page people post travel conditions. What you can't get is side road information. There was a stretch of US2 across the bottom of the UP closed for more than 24 hours the other day because of drifting. The pics of the snow along the sides now from the plows are crazy. That's the same section I got caught in the white out a few years ago.

Diane Sue I hope your husband is okay. Crazy to keep getting passed around like that.

Hi Carolyn and Judy.

We walked the park again this morning. its warm today and we could maybe have ridden but it was quite windy and we expected rain any minute so a walk was best. 70 minutes. was at least 50 degrees.

the WSDOT is the only road info I know , and "road conditions" are not part of the info they provide. their big focus is on traffic in the metro area, important for sure, but not the only thing needed. they dont report on side streets either. I think we are approx #7 in the country ( Seattle/Bellevue)for terrible commute traffic. also use X which is where the WA State Patrol reports specific problems. there are limits to what's easy enough to use while driving. The other states dont ( MT and ID )have rush hour traffic like we do here. different focus.

Diane sue that's too bad your DH took a fall. an xray is pretty basic not to have. especially for a work related accident. good innovation with the dust pan!.
