Pentagenarians & Beyond: January 11, 2026

Yesterday I did Cathe’s Fit Tower Beginner workout (one of the workouts that came with the Fit Tower) and some stretching. Today I did Live #547, “Nothing But Upper Body”. I am having to rethink physical therapy, as it seems to have made my sciatica and hip pain worse, so much so that I stopped doing the PT work altogether for now and cancelled the rest of my appointments. I guess I was expecting a little more personalized attention, but after the first appointment and assessment I was pretty much on my own. I thought I was doing the right thing by going to this office but they really didn’t do much for me. I’m going to make an appointment with my orthopedic dr next week and see if I can get a diagnosis and go from there. Based on how I feel, I’m afraid I might have a torn labrum or tendon and all of the stretching that the PT had me doing made it worse. I probably should have stopped the PT work after the first few days but I was so hoping that it would start getting better.

Carolyn-Great job with KCM’s Cardio Fit Workout One. I hope your wrist gets better soon. It sounds like a good idea to avoid upper body work for a bit.

judy your comments are what happened to me. i was still doing PT work from after my back surgery. at some point my back got worse not better. i should have gone back for a reassessment but i didnt.. the new PT place had different ideas, different exercises. it is helping now. i am not naively thinking all the aches will all go away but im definitely better. changes were so gradual i didnt know where the problem was coming from. its hard to sort. nothing that hurts the first time you do it. doesnt start until the 300th time. if you do alot of exercise its impossible to sort out but fresh eyes were a big help. imaging is helpful even if its to know what is NOT wrong. hope you get some answers.
 
Today I did Senior Shape with Lauren's Strength Tabata/ Intermediate Muscle Building Hiit workout, 40 minutes, heart rate 101/122, 167 calories. I followed with her No Stress Chair Yoga 11 minutes and 10 minutes of her Recovery Day mobility, 21 minutes, 73 calories. Total time was 61 minutes, 240 calories.

Valerie, we have lived here 5 years. Hopefully this will be our final move and my husband can retire for good. We are getting rid of a lot of stuff. Nice work on the 30 minute walk and 2x PT work.
 
They were so wrong about the snow on Wednesday. It kept blowing right through their supposed stopping time. I headed out for my dentist appointment, gave up and called and left a message. Felt bad because they were at lunch and I was the next appointment, but even though I added in extra time I wasn't going to make it and the snow was blowing and I really didn't want to deal with whiteouts. So, I now have an appointment in February. Told her I just should have requested mid summer. LOL We are about a 35-40 minute drive on dry roads.

Thursday I shopped and stopped at my brothers to visit. His wife is taking time off as she has lots of time built up and he has so much pain, and lots of appointments over the next few months. Yesterday was DH's last day and he had to take in all his work stuff. I was going to go meet them for lunch, but it was snowing...again, so I passed. Opted not to workout, and spent about 5 solid hours cleaning, and starting to get that area of the living room back. It had been an office for almost 6 years. Our computer and the printer are now all set up normally on the desk, and I just have to remove all the odds and ends from the side desk, it swings out even with the other, and I will have a place to sit and use my laptop rather than the table. Today I did Live Kick Punch Cardio Party. There were parts I liked, but right in the middle of it, she does a gloves off leg section. Not a fan of those and it kills my heart rate. Then I did STS 2 Standing Metabolic Core + Floor and Stretch Max with the band.

Judy I saw that your area ended up getting quite a bit of snow. We may have ended up with 3", but that was more than we were supposed to, and it was blowing. Came from the north, which is always worse, and so our back screened porch got snow all the way to the door. Crazy when that happens and now we are getting a polar vortex coming in. This winter is definitely making up for last years light winter. I'm sorry that PT not only didn't help you, but made things worse. I hope you get answers.

Valerie, you can send all your skiers here. Our ski resorts and trails have plenty of snow this year.

Diane Sue, I hope the downsizing goes smoothly for you. I really want to downsize, but DH has so much stuff and he's not good about parting with it. I've gone digital for books, music and TV, but he's still very much into physical stuff.
 
This morning I did part of LMR Functional Pilates Fusion. I skipped the section on the knees since it puts pressure on my wrist to be on all fours. My time was 26 minutes, and 62 calories burned.

Judy, nice job with Fit Tower Beginner and Live Nothing but Upper Body. I’m sorry that PT hasn’t helped. Seeing the orthopedist is a good idea.

Diane Sue, great job with Senior Shape Strength Tabata and No Stress Chair Yoga. I’ve been slowly getting rid of things. Sometimes I look around and think “why did I buy that“. We have accumulated so much ”stuff” over the years.

Cathy, I‘m sorry that you didn’t make it to your dentist appointment, but it’s good that you turned around. Great job with Live Kick, Punch Cardio Party, STS 2 Standing Metabolic Core + Floor, and Stretch Max with the band.

Today I did LMR Functional Pilates Fusion and a 10 minute walk on the walking pad.

Valerie-Thank you. I agree about changes being so gradual that you don’t know where the problem is coming from. That’s how I feel right now. I plan on seeing my ortho dr. this week if I can get in and hopefully, I can get some imaging done.

Cathy-Great job with Live Kick Punch Cardio Party, STS 2 Standing Metabolic Core + Floor and Stretch Max. They definitely had the forecast wrong on Wednesday. We got a little over 6 inches here. I’m sorry about your dentist appointment. I agree, this winter is making up for last years lighter winter. I think the last one we had that was this bad was 2014.
