Pentagenarians & Beyond: January 11, 2026

Today I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga, Morning Energy practice for 18 minutes.

Cathy, I’m sorry about the lack of sleep. Just stretching was a good idea.

I hope that everyone is having a good day.

cathy sometimes its best to take the day off. I am doing an upper body weight workout. did one set of therapy so far and will do another after the weights. mostly home duty things today. laundry, some baking and its cold and raining.

Saturday I did a 30-minute Peloton HiiT ride and PT work. Yesterday I walked a little over 3 miles with my husband at the mall. Next time we will try to get 4 miles in.

Valerie-I agree about wanting things done yesterday. I bet your DH will be happy after the cataract surgery is over. I don’t like having things scheduled out over a month.

Cathy-Great job with the AOLIH mix and the stretching. I’m really sorry about your sleep. I know how rough that is. We thought about pet insurance but decided it was better to just keep a savings account for vet bills. It’s hard to find a vet around here that isn’t owned by a private equity company. We might switch to the vet clinic at Huron Valley Humane Society. They do home visits for exams and vaccines and that might work out better for Chino, as he gets very stressed going to the vet. He doesn't travel well and now that he is almost 13 we hate to see him so stressed out.

Carolyn-Great job with Jane Adams Gentle Yoga.

Hi to Diane Sue

Today I did JS Pyramid Power Walk, 31 minutes, 204 calories burned, average heart rate 131, and maximum heart rate 166.

Judy, nice job with Peloton HiiT ride, PT, And walking at the mall with your husband.

Hello to Diane Sue, Cathy, and Valerie.

Today I did LMR Functional Lower Body. My DH is retiring, last day Friday. No idea how this will play out. He's been working from home for the last 6 years, so he's always around, but he won't have anything to keep him busy anymore!

Judy it sounds like the humane society office would be a good idea? I have a cat who really would do better with a traveling vet, but none of them come out this far right now.

Had an eye exam today . stuck to several therapy sessions and called it good.

we had a vet house call only once, to put down our dog. we planned to bury him at our home. it was worth it to us but was pretty expensive at the time which was 30+ years ago. we are fortunate our current vet office is only about 10- 15 minutes away. there are other times Puss has to go in the car so he has to deal with it. he doesnt like it at the time but doesnt seem to suffer any effects from it. its funny because we stick him in the garage sometimes especially if he is misbehaving. . if we are working in the garage he jumps right in the car to "help" so its not the car itself, its the motion.

oh gosh cathy that might be a hard thing to adapt to. when my DH retired im not sure what i expected but he sure was around a lot more. he has his own interests and does more yard work than i do so it has worked out for us. he has his projects and I have mine but we have common interests, hiking and riding mainly. i do gardening and do most of the shopping. i did miss the quiet alone time i used to have a lot more of but overall it just took some adjustments.

Today I did STS 2.0 Supersets Total Body express premix. That was 41 minutes, 85 calories burned, average heart rate 100, and maximum heart rate 127.

Cathy, great job with LMR Functional Lower Body. Good luck with the adjustment to your husband’s retirement. It will take some time for sure. Working from home and involved with his own activities will be very different from him having unstructured days.

Valerie, good job getting in therapy work after your eye appointment.

Hello to Judy and Diane Sue.

This is an active rest week for me. Yesterday I did my PT work and 10 minutes of Peloton Arms & Light Weights. Today I plan on doing Yin Yoga.

Carolyn-Great job with JS Pyramid Power Walk and STS 2.0 Supersets Total Body express premix.

Cathy-Great job with LMR Functional Lower Body. I think the Humane Society Vet will work out well for us. There are a few other travelling vets in the area but I’d rather support the Humane Society.

Valerie-Great job with your therapy sessions.

Hi to Diane Sue

we had an especially warm and partly sunny day today. temp was upper 50's so we did a road ride on our usual trail. an hr 20 minutes 15 miles. it was supposed to be a string of nice days but now it looks like fog may develop so glad we went today.

Cathy i hadn't thought about DH's retirement much in a long time. it doesn't sound like the two of you do all that much together so he might be in the way a bit. hopefully he has some interests because it's an "all of a sudden" ton of free time. you cant just sit and watch TV. he will need some things to occupy him unless he decides to try a new career direction. my DH had a lot of things he liked to do so he/we stayed busy.

Yesterday I did LMR Functional Pilates Fusion. Pretty sure I had not done that one before. I liked it and think I'd use it for a core day. Today I did a mix using RWH warm up, cooldown and stretch and 2x through the LMR Cardio. Went to my parents yesterday and while the morning was very windy, rainy in places, the afternoon drive home was calmer and sunny. Now today, when I have an early afternoon dentist appointment, it's snowing. Big UGH. I checked 5 different forecasts yesterday to decide whether to cancel and only one of them predicted this happening. Though they've reduced the amount of snow. When I came down to workout, the road was still clear and it's supposed to mostly stop at this point, so fingers crossed. The only thing I have to go on with DH not working is weekends, and he generally doesn't do much. He will likely do more outside stuff, but that's limited until warmer weather. I have some trips planned, but he really doesn't like to travel. Gonna be interesting for sure.

cathy it's just a very big change especially without much lead time. it made me a little bit crazy at first. he was just "There" all the time.
