Pentagenarians & Beyond: February 1, 2026

This morning I did Live Low Impact Kickboxing, PP Upper Body and Restorative Yoga. Getting ready to head to my parents. We have sunshine and heading for 24! Not a temp I'd normally cheer, but we haven't seen it for awhile. My sister was 31 in Tampa area this morning, Derek was warmer in Bismarck!

Carolyn I hope your husband is doing better.

Valerie I keep 10 gallon jugs of water in the basement to use to flush toilets when the power is out. Usually if the outage is longer, I can get somewhere to refill them. Honestly, unless it's really cold weather a non flushing toilet is the worst thing about a power outage.

Diane Sue I hope the house showing goes well.

Hi Judy.

cathy our toilets work, power or no. but not without water. no water jug weighs less than10 pounds. our small ones are 25 and the big ones >45. if we ever have a natural disaster or like this, our water system fails, we can get by with enough to share.
that is so crazy with southeast getting so cold and snowy. WI MI MN and the Dakotas and Montana are used to it and well prepared. Carolyn, are you doing Ok?
but Tampa?

Diane sue good luck with the house showing.

Today I did yoga/mobility for 18 minutes. I was so sick yesterday!! I had a bad case of food poisoning and I have never experienced anything like that. I’m better today but not back to normal. I don’t really know what caused it, but I threw out every food item that I tasted on Friday.

We didn’t get much snow in my area just a few flurries that didn’t stick. Other areas not far away had several inches. It’s extremely cold.

Judy, great job with Live Upper Body Heat Wave, walking on the treadmill, and Yin Yoga.

Valerie, nice job with therapy and Stacked Sets Upper Body. That’s great that you checked on your neighbor and took over bottles of water.

Cathy, great job with Live Sweat and Shine Kickboxing, Low Impact Kickboxing, PP Upper Body, and Restorative Yoga.

Diane Sue, nice job with the upper body workout. I hope the house showing went well.

Yesterday I did Cathe Live #416, Fast & Fierce Lower Body. I still can't use heavy weights for lower body yet so I went much lighter and was very careful with the squats and deadlifts. I also did an hour of Peloton Restorative Yoga last night. This morning I did a 45 minute Peloton ride and some lower body stretching.

Carolyn-I’m sorry you had food poisoning. I had that a couple of months ago and it was horrible. I hope you feel better soon. Great job getting the yoga/mobility in.

Cathy-I’m sorry you were sick. Great job with Live Sweat and Shine Kickboxing, Live Low Impact Kickboxing, PP Upper Body and Restorative Yoga. I hope you had a good trip to your parents. It was nice to have temps in the 20’s today and to see a little sun.

Valerie-Great job with the therapy work and Stacked Upper Body. Temps in the 50’s sounds wonderful right now! That was nice of you to help your neighbors.

Diane Sue-Great job with the upper body workout and stretch.

Today I did ICE To the Mat Ball and Bands premix and Stretch Max 3. Glad I got out yesterday, we're having enough snow this morning that the roads in lower MI are nasty again. Snow plows were out in force all over. I don't think I've ever seen so many showing up on the map.

Carolyn I'm so sorry you got sick. Sounds like yours was worse than mine. Still not sure what caused mine because I had two things of leftovers that weren't old, so the initial meals didn't do anything. Now they were not the greatest combo to eat together (vegetable stew with dumplings and stir fry) but still. Mine was mostly just limited to intestinal pain.

Judy the trip to my parents went well. Roads were clear and dry, yesterday, and I got their bird feeders stocked, and put the trash out. Is your area getting snow again today, too?

Valerie yeah we can flush toilets if we add water, but no power means no well pump or water softener. Our water has a very high iron content here.

Hi Diane Sue.

cathy we also have a pressurizer on our water system which goes out if we lose power, but water is still functional. leak located ,is but in a hard to get to spot. we assumed( never good to assume) that the water line was along the road like the rest of the development, but its not. they need to get big equipment up along the ridge line. leak is across the road from us and 2-3 lots down. this was built in the 1980's.

thats weird a 3 of you got food poisoning in recent times. never had it as far as I know. I worry more about restaurant food or pre pared foods. i dont use them often. DH is not happy with food anyone else cooked, even rotisserie chicken. i occasionally use bagged or boxed salads especially traveling in a camper. . green onions and romaine seem to be problem foods more often than anything else.

already did morning water delivery to our neighbor. shes a good friend for a long time.

This morning I did JS One Mile of Motivation and some light stretching. I’m still feeling a bit weak today but needed to do something.

Judy, great job with Live Fast and Fierce Lower Body, Peloton ride, lower body stretching, and Restorative Yoga.

Cathy, nice job with ICE To the Mat Ball and Bands and Stretch Max.

Valerie, it is strange that three of us had food related illnesses recently. I think there is a problem with our food supply. I don’t eat out and I prepare our food at home.

Hello to Diane Sue.

Carolyn I do the same. we seldom eat out. I worry about produce because we eat so much of it, and there is e coli contamination. sometimes the bacteria cant be washed off although i do wash most things at least once in a salad spinner. I love that thing and have worn out 4-5 of them over many years. i got my appts done this morning and didnt need to take my neighbor anywhere like I thought i would.

I agree about there being a problem with our food supply. One thing I've noticed in several local grocery stores is seeing more and more expired products on the shelves. If the stores are using expired products in their prepared foods that could explain some of it. We do buy prepared foods and salads (I'm pretty sure it was a wrap from Plum Market that gave me food poisoning)

there are more and more "prepared" products on the shelf especially refrigerated. like sandwiches and salads to go, entire meals to go with all the ingredients on the tray. mixed fruit cups.
i am wary of fruit. if the outside of the fruit is not thoroughly washed, when you cut into it, the knife blade will carry whatever bacteria on the outside to the interior. if you eat it immediately probably no problem. but if the fruit is cut and put into little cups for individual sale it might sit for days even refrigerated where the bacteria can grow. especially fruits that grow on the ground like melons. or strawberries. or vegetables like butternut squash. I even wash pineapples before cutting them. not grown on the ground but the exterior is so rough it could carry a lot of bacteria. every step where ingredients get handled is a potential source. there are fewer and fewer employees in groceries, like fewer and fewer checkers so we need to self check. i agree judy about more expired things on the shelf. i never used to look but now i check outdates on many more things, if I can find the dating. dairy products are often really short dated.

Today I did 16 minutes of upper body exercises on my own with light weights. Then I did LMR Low Impact Cardio bonus and finished with a stretch.

Valerie, I agree with everything that you said about prepared food and cut produce. I want whole produce and I wash everything. I avoid romaine unless it’s from the vendor at the farmer’s market.

Hello to Judy, Cathy and Diane Sue.

My favorite lettuce is romaine. I buy baby romaine heads and wash them thoroughly but i know its usually the lettuce that's a problem. best I can do is grow my own in season. I would never ever buy something like butternut squash that grows on the ground and is cut into little squares and sold like that. or diced up melon. i scrub melons with soap and a brush before cutting them up. i worry a little less about tree fruit but.... workers go up and down to harvest fruit using ladders. they walk on the dirt, then go up and down the ladders and their hands can touch where the boots travel, that's how bacteria gets onto the fruit even though its grown up in the air. maybe they wash it, but I wash it again. Sprouts are showing up in stores again. back in the '80s we grew our own sprouts in trays at home. it turned out the sprout seeds were contaminated with bacteria before they started growing, and in moist warm environment where bacteria thrived too. okay getting off my soapbox! I try to be careful but not paranoid.

i did stacked upper bdy yesterday and today a road ride 15 miles 1 hr 15 min.

No workout yesterday as we had a lot to do. Today I did Lift Move and Restore Functional Total Body, 63 minutes, 215 calories, heart rate 97/127 followed with Lauren Standing Active Recovery and stretch 14 minutes, 38 calories. Total time was 14 minutes, 38 calories.

I check dates on stuff a lot. When we lived in a smaller city, there was a lot of stuff on shelves well past expiration date. Even the health store had outdated products. I found if I peeled of the sticker they put on the packages that they were covering up the expiration date. One time I got a special organic pancake mix for grandchildren coming and found it was years past date. I took it back and later checked and they still had the outdated stuff on the shelf. Packed foods like salads and premade stuff seem to need to be eaten day one or the rot quickly.
I do not trust pre-washed ready to eat stuff. Best to rinse.
