Pentagenarians & Beyond: April 13, 2025

Today I did LMR Functional Lower Body. My time was 56 minutes with 201 calories burned. My average heart rate was 110 and maximum heart rate was 145.

Thinking back on previous members, I realized that Janie was on a different thread, not this one. I do wonder how the others are doing and what they are up to.

Judy, great job with the Peloton ride, row, restorative yoga, and arms and light weights. Your project is really coming together even though it’s taking longer than anticipated.

Diane Sue, the ladies great and lunch out with your husband sounds like a nice day. Great job with Raw Barre,Pyramid Pump Triceps and Biceps supersets, and Raw Your Healthy Back.

Hello to Valerie, Cathy, and Shannon.

Hi, ladies. I had a morning meeting in Little Rock yesterday, so I wasn’t able to check in. Then this morning, a job I had to get to the next phase, so I’m late. Tuesday I did Low Impact HiiT, 1 and 2 combined. Yesterday I was supposed to do a more vigorous yoga routine, but I was tired, so I just did some relaxing yoga and stretches on my own.

Cathy – I hope you have a good visit with your parents and that everything is okay with your mom.

Carolyn – Great job with Functional Upper Body and Cardio Quick Fix.

Valerie – I used to love yard work and planting flowers, etc. But that love has faded over the years. I’m letting a lot of it go back to natural. Now one reason I love winter so much is that there’s no yard work. I’m glad you and DH got the tire fixed. That’s just plain weird that even though you’re in front, he gets the flats.

Judy – I’m glad you are able to take advantage of the carpet sale. That’s good timing! I’ll bet the Amish furniture is beautiful.

Diane – I’m glad you had a nice day the other day with your ladies group and then dinner out. It sounds fun! I haven’t tried the LMR upper body balance. I previewed it and decided it would be way too hard on my hands and wrists.

My right hip really hurts. I iced and did CDorner deep stretch. That is all I am going to do.

Shannon, I just did a few of the upper bonus discs and did most of it with knees on the floor. Although planks are good for core strength and back, they kill my wrists and shoulders.

Shopped yesterday. Today I did an IMAX workout I put together from parts of IMAX 2,3 and 4, then I did Live To the Mat Legs, Glutes and Core. Was hoping to go out and walk after I showered, as I walked about 7 and it was 60 and nice out, then got sunny, but we've got a short, but potentially severe thunderstorm coming in about 20 minutes, and then maybe more later. Every time the back areas almost get all dried out, more rain!

Valerie the only time the deer come in our yard is sometimes in the winter to eat apples off the ground. My sister has a neighborhood herd in NC that likes to come and trim things for her. Every year she plays what plants will the deer leave alone. Our grasses get to be about 5' in the areas that we left, but most of those areas have other things growing in them now. Glad you got DH tire fixed.

Judy it sounds like your remodel project has taken on a life of its own!

Shannon I went through Little Rock on my way to Nick's the first time. o_O Since then, I've taken a different route. Didn't help that there was major construction all the way through what appeared to be the highway going through the main area of the city. Now if I could just find a decent work around for Indy. LOL

Hi Carolyn and Diane Sue.

Good morning, ladies. I did ICE Boot Camp Circuit, premix that included the blizzard blast and abs. Instead of doing the ab sections in the main workout, I repeated either the previous lower or upper body portions while she did abs, since I was going to do abs at the end.

Does anyone have plans for Easter? We don't. I guess it will be pretty quiet around here, but that's fine with me. However, we are supposed to have thunderstorms, so maybe "quiet" isn't the right word, LOL.

Diane - I'm sorry your hip hurts so much. I hope you can get some relief. Whenever I do planks, I always do them on my forearms. It takes the strain off my hands and wrists, but it might not work for you because it still stresses the shoulders.

Cathy - I miss the Imax days. Those were great workouts. Imax 2 was my favorite. I hope your thunderstorm isn't too violent. Gotta love this time of the year. Was all the road construction in Little Rock on I-30, going towards Texarkana? Yeah, they've been working on that road FOREVER. Thank goodness it's not one I have to use.

Hi to Judy, Caroline and Valerie.

I hope everyone has a very nice Easter. I'll see you on Monday.

shannon I do the same with planks. so far my shoulders are ok but I try to save wrists for riding. I do more ab work than anything else. I need to be careful with low back twisting, so I do plenty of abs but try to keep things "straight".

we need to fence our garden or the deer would eat it all. including tomatoes raspberries strawberries and blueberries( the whole bush) etc. we dont grow anything edible outside the fencing. Dogwood both red twig and yellow twig are sold as ornamentals here but the deer eat them to the ground. the same plant grows wild all over in montana and seems uneaten. same with rose bushes and plenty of things I dont try to grow. sometimes even "deer proof" plants . their tastes can change year to year. autumn joy sedum might get eaten and might not. they were chewing on a japanese maple yesterday although usually they dont bother. we aim for colorful perennials that dont need a lot of care. sometimes they trim things like ornamental kinds of evergreens. you never know. we spray some things with "deer stopper" sprays but too much area to spray everything.

we are going on a short trip next week. taking our bikes and camper, have a good forecast.

Today I had planned to do Step Sync, but my knees didn’t want step. I did Cardio Party instead. That was 39 minutes, 306 calories burned, average heart rate 139, and maximum heart rate 168.

Shannon, great job with Low Impact HiiT One and Two, yoga, and ICE Bootcamp Circuit with blizzard blasts and abs. Enjoy your weekend.

Diane Sue, I’m sorry about your hip. Only doing a stretch was probably a good idea.

Cathy, great job with your IMAX workout and Live To the Mat Legs, Glutes, and Core.

Hello to Judy and Valerie.

Yesterday I did a 45 minute Peloton ride. Today I did Muscle Meltdown Triceps (4 Sets) and 20 minutes of rowing.
We ordered the carpet and it will be installed on May 2. We also found out that we have to take out our closet organizer before, which will be quite a big job. It’s a full closetmaid system that we installed during the pandemic. We’ll have to take it apart and put it back together after the carpet is in. It doesn’t go all the way to the floor so we didn’t anticipate this being an issue but they need 3 feet of clearance and there is only about a foot.

Diane Sue-Great job with Raw Barre #1, LITE Pyramid Pump, Your Healthy Back, and the CDorner Deep Stretch. I’m sorry about your hip, I hope it feels better soon.

Valerie-I switched to clip in shoes about 20 years ago. It took a while to get used to but I did eventually get comfortable with them.

Carolyn-Great job with LMR Functional Lower Body and Cardio Party. I wonder how the others are doing too. I see Lori on Facebook and I think she is doing well.

Shannon-Great job with Low Impact HiiT, 1 and 2, Yoga and ICE Boot Camp Circuit. Unfortunately, I’ll be working Easter, as I didn’t put in to take the day off. It’s ok though since I’m pretty much only working 1 day a week now.

Cathy-Great job with your IMAX workout and Live To the Mat Legs, Glutes and Core. Most of our projects seem to take on a life of their own, lol, but this one even more so.

we did a ride this morning because it was so nice out. had a few errands to do first so we did those and parked at the opposite end of the ride so did it reverse of our usual. weird how it all looks different that way. ended up taking us longer than usual but the ride was a little longer because of where parking was. saw some common mergansers on the river. last year I saw lots of them with ducklings later in the season. had no idea they hatched so many. i could not count them all but seemed like at least 14, unless different duck families group together on water.

oh judy that is unfortunate. we have a closet system in our master too, but I use the free standing stacked drawers. I love them. I always hated bedroom 'dressers". i like open drawers and two layers of hang rods with a shelf in the middle. lots of space without lots of bulky furniture.

i quit trying the clips. there was only one style I could use and I couldnt tell when I was attached or released. I fell a few times and had some close calls so I went back to toe baskets and im happy. my ankles are extremely loose so it was a bad match.

good to know Lori is doing Ok. I missed hearing after she moved to Florida. I always think of her when theres a hurricane or when I see a trampoline. .

Today I did LMR Anytime Mobility, 17 minutes, 54 calories and LMR functional Pilates foam roller and ball mix 28 minutes, 55 calories. Total time 45 minutes, 109 calories. I feel better this evening. I started with using heat on my hip before I did the mobility work. It feels a little better tonight.
Deer are interesting creatures. I would never have thought they would be wandering around in the city, but we had groups of them wandering in our neighborhood in a busy area. Usually at night, but one day I opened the garage and a whole group of them was in our circle eating the neighbor's trees. There was a pond and woods nearby that went back into a park where people jogged and walked. My husband says they are all over where he works at night. I took pictures of them eating the trees when I opened the garage. I am surprised they didn't take off.

Cathy, nice work on the I Max combination and live to the mat Legs, Glutes, and Core. That mix could be fun. because there are those combos that I love on each one. We are supposed to have some rain the next two days here.

Shannon, nice way to use Ice Bootcamp Circuit. My family always has a family Easter with egg hunt and activities. My son and his wife have been doing it the last 3 years. They live out on the edge of the city with a large pond and area where the kids can hunt eggs. My husband has to work so I will go by myself.
I use my forearms a lot too. It isn't as stressful on the shoulders as being on my hands.

Valerie, glad you got in a ride this morning before errands. Dealing with plants and deer sounds like a chore.

Carolyn, nice work on Cardio Party today. I love step workouts, but my knees have not been to happy with me doing them too often.

Judy, great job on the 45 minute Peloton ride yesterday and today's I Muscle Meltdown Triceps 4 Sets option and 20 minutes of rowing. That is a shame that you have to take apart your closet organizer system for the carpet installation.

Today I did Lower/Upper Balance Discs w/SB Lying Stretch. Derek finally was able to take his car in yesterday. It's the catalytic converter. $3500 for a new one. But, surprisingly, they told him that because of the mileage they don't recommend he use it. The car still drives fine, and they said it'll start decreasing his gas milage and eventually will start driving rough. Never heard of a dealership not pushing people to spend money. Almost all his drives are just 3-5 miles in length and in the city, so even if his mileage worsens he still won't use much gas.

Judy that would be a real pain to have to take apart your closet system. I'm a minimalist when it comes to clothing. I hang up everything but underwear and socks which are in a drawer of a nightstand, and I don't think the hanging stuff even takes up 4'. Then I have one of those hanging shoe organizers for my workout clothes. I put each outfit together, socks, bottoms, tops and roll them up, and pop them in a compartment and pull one out each day. And I have what I'm planning to wear right beside my bed and put them on before I even get out of bed. Harder to make excuses to not workout when you are dressed for it.

Valerie I hope your trip goes smoothly. Are you taking kitty? The Mergansers might have a lot of ducklings or that might have acquired some from other ducks. They can lay 10-12 eggs. Apparently female ducks will have their own nests, but then go add a couple eggs to another nest. They can hatch as many as 20 and if they get separated from their babies on the water, they can't tell which ones are theirs and which aren't. So they just add them to the group. Have you seen the photos of ducks with 50 or more ducklings following them?

Shannon we didn't actually end up having a storm until the middle of the night. It rained a bit early evening, but that was it.

Diane Sue my sisters neighborhood deer aren't very skittish, they are also right on the edge of some undeveloped land and the lot across from them, that they own has nothing on it. Plus since they are only there about 7 months out of the year, the deer are used to helping themselves.

Hi Carolyn.

the deer here are basically domestic livestock. some neighbors feed them which is such a bad idea for everyone. . they should be a little afraid of people for their own sake. when we are working on a tree, they wander past and barely look at us. they walk within 15 feet like we are more deer. at night is when they come and eat ornamental plants. we quit things that are not worth the effort. like roses. they eat the whole bush.

we did the closet system when we both were working so we needed better organization. it reminds you every day that you have too much stuff.

the trip suddenly went on hold. Kitty was going to stay home on this one since it would have been a short one. DH has been having trouble with a knee for 3 weeks now. it seemed better, and he was seen at the WIC and got x-rayed but pain came back today, seriously. he has an appt this friday with ortho so we are cancelling the trip. i am hoping the knee is not a serious problem but this is too long to be a sprain/ strain. suspect a meniscal tear but we cant go off into semi remote places with it a problem. we were mainly going to road ride but these trails are paved but not right along driveable roads. plus it would be the camper, something I can drive but dont WANT to drive.
cathy that is interesting about the mergs. I saw them multiple times last summer on the river and in a nearby creek. a whole lot of ducklings! sometimes with several mothers and sometimes all clustered around one. when they are all moving and circling around its hard to count. ive never seen pics of that many ducklings. on the river with current its hard to tell who goes with who. this year I'll try to watch closer.
that's a brave system for working out. i'd never do anything if I had to do it immediately. I want my coffee and some food and a bathroom stop before I do anything difficult. wish I could but not happening.

Today I did CDorner to the beat high or low impact cardio "Rock Music" 45 minutes, 315 calories, heart rate 142/177 (I do not think I got that high) 4,308 steps. When I was done I did my own additional stretching. My hip is feeling much better. Not sure what I did to make it so painful. It has been raining most of the day. I gather it will be all night too. I hope no flooding when I go to my son's house for Easter.

Cathy, that is nice they did not take advantage and fix your son's car. We have a place we took our older vehicles to for repairs because they were honest about it. Nice work on the balance discs and SB lying stretch.

Carolyn, enjoy your rest day.

Valerie, I am sorry you had to put your trip on hold. I hope they can figure out what is causing your husband's knee problem.
