Pentagenarians & Beyond: 11/03/2024

This morning I put together a workout using the four bonus legs sections from Meso 1 and finishing with Stretch Max with the band. Pretty sure I'll be feeling it tomorrow. Today, it wouldn't let me log in to my streaming link on my laptop. Finally found the correct password on my iPad, last place I looked. And while it signed me out on the laptop, the Roku was still letting me in. Then I came to the forums and couldn't get in and had to use my other password. So weird.

Valerie sorry to hear that you slipped and fell. Glad it didn't cause any injury. Great that you used the treadmill, spin, therapy and upper body workouts when you couldn't ride. Computer issues are such a pain. We still have two old computers in the basement that became useless when they couldn't be updated. I'd ditch them, but DH won't yet.

Carolyn it's so nice that you have a Farmers' Market available to you.

Diane Sue sorry to hear that you are having issues with being tired. Good that you could get in all the stretching.

Hi Judy and Shannon.

Judy, thanks for starting us off this week. This morning I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga for 18 minutes.

Diane Sue, nice job with CDorner full body warm up stretch. Hopefully you will feel a bit more energetic today.

Valerie, nice job with 30 minutes spinning and part of Stacked Sets Upper Body. I hope that you can find another kitten.

Cathy, nice work with your legs workout from Meso 1 and Stretch Max with bands.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Yesterday and today I did 45 minute Peloton rides. We've started a new project, now we are working on replacing the carpet in our bedroom and office and also getting new furniture. We ordered a new computer desk and filing cabinet and are getting the rooms ready to be measured for the carpet. We have a little decluttering to do, especially in the office. I got rid of a few things yesterday and will be doing more this week. We had 3 bookcases in the office and I managed to get it down to 2 last night. I have a couple of boxes of old books to donate. We also have to hire someone to paint the vaulted ceiling in our hallway before we have the carpet installed. This project will keep us busy for the next few months, depending on how soon we can get a painter in.

Cathy-Great job with your leg workout and stretch max.

Carolyn-Great job with Jane Adams Gentle Yoga.

Valerie-I’m sorry about your fall, I’m glad you didn’t get hurt. I hope you find the perfect cat for you. They are such great company. I don’t know what we would do without ours.

Diane Sue-It’s good that you are selling the bike. I bought a mountain bike once that was a larger size frame than I would normally get. It was the right price and I liked the look of it so I thought I would just make it work but it was impossible for me to ride comfortably. I ended up returning it in less than a week.

Hi to Shannon

that sounds like a tough combo, cathy. I wish I could still do leg workouts but my knees wont take it. they still work for riding and hiking and even bending. But lots of reps squat/lunge type moves are not good anymore. the fall was nothing. I'm relaxed about falling, a good skill to have for outdoor activities. skiing, mt biking and hiking, you end up falling at least sometimes. Im relaxed and at worst get I bruised.

Best Buy recycles electronics for no charge. they have limits on screen size over 49". which t business es recycle is a constantly changing game. its nice to be rid of non working electronics, not worry about sensitive data , and also not have dumped in the landfill. if you dont have BB, maybe some other company does it?

we're hesitating to get another kitty. we have coyotes, bobcats, and a cougar are around. we see them on our trail cam. also the local kitty population is doing well, we see them a lot too. we've always had indoor/outdoor cats but not sure we will do that again. after a cat is used to going outside it's a battle to change. we always adopt adults from shelters. all have been outdoor cats. will see what we get and see what works. I always keep them inside at night.

Judy I thought about mt bikes too. last bike I bought, 29 inch wheels were the new thing and i would have had more choices. I rode a 29 around their ride test area and although I could do it, I was stretched out too far. too long to the handlebars. Im so glad I got the smaller 27.5 one. it would have been easier if Dh and I had the same size bikes for repairs and spare parts etc. his bikes are Specialized brand. fits him better than Trek, which fit me. whatever the local store carries and does maintenance on is the best choice.

Happy Sunday, ladies. I just wanted to stop by and say hi. I read through everything, but it’s way too hard to do personals on my phone. I’ll be back tomorrow for a full post. I hope you all have a great rest of the day!

Today I did CDorner Fast Step Aerobics #427, 28 minutes, 143 calories, heart rate 132/155. I then started with STS 2 mobility 1 stopped at the prone work (forgot all of that) and went on to do Jessica Smith Gentle Yoga chest and back, 31 minutes, spent 46 calories. Time was 59 minutes, 189 calories. I also did the back pod and stretch and strengthen moves suggested.

Valerie, I just read your post on the end of October. That bike was unusually large. Not what one would expect from even an e bike. My daughter said she never saw an e bike that big. It came from a company in California and there are a lot of videos on youtube. So, sending it back is not an option. My husband is pleased with his. He just was not thinking size when he ordered I guess. They were not cheap bikes. My husband is going to need a different bike rack for the truck. The one we got holds two bikes and has the ramp, but the straps did not hold that bike well. Plus, the truck thinks there is something behind it and automatically stops when you try to back up. Hoping we get the bike sold and can still get another. I have been looking at places with riding trails closer to where we live.
I think you would enjoy another cat. It would be kind of worrisome with the wildlife and an outdoor cat. Our neighbors cat spends part of it's time outside. I see it sitting in their garage a lot, just looking around. It comes up and set on our doorstep a lot or hangs in our front planter. I think they lost two cats when we first moved here. They had a big sign with pictures of their cats in there yard and up on the nearest cross street. I don't think they ever got them back.

Cathy, that sounds like a tough workout doing all of the bonus legs from STS meso 1. I am sure you needed the stretch max with the band. I have several old computers with different difficulties in the cabinet. One my grandson spilled water on the keyboard when I was doing the online learning during the covid lock down. It still works, but you get a warning and the blinking letters that if you push the enter button it may not work? I just pushed it anyway, and that is how I kept getting into it to finish that year and the zoom classes. The next year they finally gave a tablet which was nice since he took mine outside to do PE and somehow it hit the pavement and was useless. My main one is old, has a dvd/cd drive and I cannot close the lid because the hinge is cracked. Still works and my granddaughter's husband is IT and he went tough it and got rid of some stuff and got it up to speed. I did the latest windows upgrade, and it was giving me a lot of grief.

Carolyn, nice work on the Sunday yoga. I worked out today and things just are off for me. My husband is working weekends, so I am cleaning and doing things I would normally do during the week. Sunday is usually a rest day for me. So, adjustments, I guess.

Judy, nice work on the Peloton rides yesterday and today. Those home projects are a lot of work, but they sure are nice. You will be busy. It may have been better had I been riding a bike already. I gave it a try, but for sure, I think it was too heavy and definitely not my size. Not good if it is so heavy I cannot hang onto it when it starts rolling down the driveway and keep it from falling. We will probably look for something else once we get it sold.

Good morning, ladies. It’s raining again! And it rained yesterday! So exciting, LOL. Let’s see. My experimental workout on Friday was a huge success. I’m very happy with it and look forward to doing some fine tuning. I took a five mile walk on Saturday and Sunday, and got caught in a light rain shower Sunday. It was a bit chilly, but not bad. I’ve tried true speed walking, but I hate it. It just feels so unnatural. So my walks are pretty fast, but within my natural range, if you know what I mean. In addition to those workouts, I had a very nice, active weekend. It felt great.

Cathy – so, how do your legs feel today? I never purchased STS 1, and only the total body workouts from STS 2. I’m a total body girl.

Valerie – I know exactly what you mean about being relaxed about falling. I grew up riding horses bareback. Lots of falls there! I just got up and got back on the horse. I hope you get a new kitty, but I do understand your hesitation.

Carolyn – Sunday is a perfect day for yoga. Is Jane Adams online, or do you use DVDs?

Judy – Your home improvement project sounds fun. Decluttering is one of my favorite hobbies, LOL. I’m very glad you are going to hire someone to paint the ceiling. That would not be fun at all.

Diane – I sure am glad your pain is going away. Good job on doing all that research with the back pod and everything. That is so funny about the truck thinking something is behind it and stopping. Dadgummed technology can be a real pain.

Just finished STS Disk 15 Back and Biceps. Planning to go to Verizon this afternoon and get the phones traded in. I could wait till Thursday but the sooner they start the process the sooner the monthly charges will be off my bill. And dang the guy said there can be 2-3 millions iPhones at the warehouse waiting to be confirmed as viable trades which is why it can take several months for the monthly charge to drop off.

Valerie I swear one of the bonuses of being as short as I am, is that when I trip over something I really don't have far to the ground. Will you take the cat with you to Montana? I swear the only cat I ever had that was totally chill riding was one I got as a kitten and took weekly when I visited my parents. Back then restraining animals in cars wasn't a thing, and she'd just lay down in her little bed or the back window. Around here while we have coyotes the thing that gets the cats is the road. Fortunately, knock on wood, I never see the three we have going that way. They tend to stay in the tree line or in the woods behind us.

Shannon cool that you got the long walk in. We got rain here overnight. Not a lot, but every little bit helps. I've been doing the original STS about once a year. I feel like I can lift heavier with the way it's structured than I can STS 2. I'll follow it up with another round of STS 2. The speed of the Total Body workouts in STS 2 makes it harder to switch equipment fast enough no matter how well I set it up ahead of time. I like the upper/lower body ones the best. Legs actually feel pretty good so far. I think adding the band stretch after really helped minimize soreness.

Judy sounds like you have your next few months remodel well planned out. Great job with the Peloton ride.

Diane Sue great job with CDorner Fast Step Aerobics #427 and the combining of the mobility/yoga.

Carolyn great job with the yoga.

never can tell when technology is going to help or hinder. our truck beeps loudly if we back up with bikes in the back. we have a cushioned bike blanket that drapes over the tailgate covering the back up camera. ( Ford). the engine automatically stops when at a light. there's is a control button to turn off this feature. you need to turn it off every time you start the car or it reverts. we don't like it. us older folks dislike the sound of the engine going off when stopping briefly. it restarts as soon as you tap the gas. Im guessing if the engine stops there may be a way to turn off this feature like on ours. no 2 vehicles have similar electronics anymore! dive into the manual always written by people for whom english is not their first language. there's probably a way to "void" that feature temporarily. trucks are used to tow loads and trailers and you could not do that if it stops when the back up camera is blocked.
I think you would do better going to a bike shop and riding a bike to get the size right. its often not the legs but the upper torso and arms dont reach far enough. there are so many electric bikes now. racks might take a while to catch up.

Ive always been active in sports. you fall. you try not to, but you do. Ive been pitched off a horse more than once too , and that hurt! skiing is good for falls as is mt biking. get used to it, gonna bite the dirt or snow sometimes. Ive never stiffened and stuck my arm out to catch myself like a lot of people do, as they tear their rotator cuff. so far, anyway.

cathy we dont know. some cats are good passengers. some not so much. we planned to take our last kitty to montana with us but he got sick and passed before we could. Indoor only there. no trees!. we've had 3 indoor/outdoor kitties. they've been good about coming in at night and not going near the road. all had been indoor/outdoor kitties when we got them. they have plenty of space to roam here but the coyotes have become more persistent and I swear "natural selection" is evolving toward silent ones. we used to know they were around from songs and yips. now they are silent. we see neighbor cats on our trail cam too. outdoor experience makes them more cautious? I worry more about an indoor cat sneaking out and not knowing what to look out for.

yesterday I did a 40 min uphill.downhill walk in our yard. Shannon, our yard is rough, I use hiking poles. it isnt as weird as race walking, but does involve arms and shoulders. you dont need fancy ones, just soemthing the right height. Ive used hiking poles for 30 years at least. later therapy and push ups and curls. after today I may have a week of curtailed activity after the surgery. need to see what I can do.

Today I did a timesaver from Rockout Knockout. My time was 36 minutes and 225 calories burned. My average heart rate was 128 and maximum heart rate was 160. I tend to forget that Rockout Knockout exists! It is on the November rotation and I decided to try it.

Judy, great job with the 45 minute Peloton rides. That’s a big remodeling project that you are starting. I’m sure that you will be happy with it.

Valerie, we recycle our electronics at Best Buy too. I have a box now waiting to go. Nice job on walking around your yard.

Diane Sue, great job with CDorner Fast Step, Mobility 1, and JS Gentle Yoga.

Cathy, great job with STS disc 15 Back and Biceps. Good luck with the phone trade in.

Shannon, I’m glad that you had a nice active weekend.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Well, phooey. Looks like I need to take a few weeks of rest. About three weeks ago, my dad ran over my foot with this:
1730751582811.png

He is disabled and uses it to get around on our property. It weighs about 500 lbs, and he weighs 260, so that's 760 going over my foot. Everything seemed okay - some swelling and bruising that is now gone, and of course soreness. But the soreness is still hanging around. I had an X-ray today to make sure there are no fractures. Thank goodness, there are not. But the doc said most likely a bad bone bruise. Yeah, and here I am, walking five miles, lifting weights, taking down a chain link fence, LOL. I guess I'd better be a good girl and let it heal.

Cathy - I'm glad your legs are doing okay. That's because you are FIT and IN SHAPE.

Valerie - So you use hiking poles not because you need them, but to get more cardio benefit? Interesting. I'll have to look into that.

Carolyn - I miss Rockout Knockout. It's a good one. But I gave up kickboxing. It's one of those things that seems to cause aches and pains for some reason, especially in my shoulder.

Hi to Judy and Diane!

Today I did something a little different. I did 10 x 10 minute Peloton workouts. It’s kind of a FB Peloton group challenge thing to do 10- 10 minute workouts in a row without stopping and I’ve been wanting to try it for a while. I started with a 10 min strength warmup, then I did 2 Arms & Shoulders, 2 Chest & Back, 1 Arms & Light Weights, 1 Glutes, 1 Core, 1 Foam Rolling and 1 Stretch. Total time 1 hr and 40 minutes. I will be feeling this tomorrow. Next time I might try mixing in 10 min rides and rows.

Valerie-Chris has a mountain bike with 29 inch tires but I stayed with the 27.5 inch ones. They are much better for me. Great job with the walking, therapy, push ups and curls.

Diane Sue-Great job with CDorner Fast Step Aerobics #427, STS 2 mobility 1, and Jessica Smith Gentle Yoga chest and back.

Shannon-Great job with your walks this weekend. I’m really sorry about your foot. It sounds like rest would be the best thing for now. I hope you have a quick recovery.

Carolyn-Great job with the Rockout Knockout Timesaver. I forget about that one too. I’m going to have to revisit it soon, along with Rock’m Sock’m, my all time favorite Cathe KB workout.

Cathy-Great job with STS Disk 15 Back and Biceps.
