Pentagenarians & Beyond: 03/30/2025

This morning I did KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, 26 minutes, 184 calories burned, average heart rate 133 and maximum heart rate 157.

Judy, great job with Peloton rides, Peloton full body strength, and restorative yoga.

Diane Sue, great job with Cardio Party and CDorner Mobility.

Cathy, I’m glad that your power came back. I see that Michigan is in the bullseye again.

Shannon, great job with your own weights, XTrain Abs #2, and ICE Chiseled Lower Body Blast.

Hello to Valerie.

Good morning, ladies. Yesterday I did Seane Corn's Yoga for Detox. It's an old DVD, can't remember the year. But it's a good routine without too many sun salutations.

Our storms weren't too bad last night. Just regular thunderstorms. But some places in Arkansas saw tornadoes, and I read about lots of damage in Oklahoma, Missouri and Tennessee.

Diane - I know you're in Oklahoma, but not sure where. I hope you are safe.

Hi to everyone else. I hope you all have a good day.

Today I did LMR Pilates Fusion plus the Lower Body Foam Rolling. That was 51 minutes, 215 calories burned, average heart rate 115 and maximum heart rate 157.

Shannon, great job with the yoga. I’m not familiar with Seane Corn. I’m glad that the terrible storms didn’t happen in your area.

Hello to Valerie, Judy, Diane Sue, and Cathy.

Yesterday I did a 45 minute Peloton walk and a 45 minute Yin Yoga class. Today I did Live PHA Super Sets #2, No Repeats and a 15-minute Peloton Stretch. Tomorrow I’ll probably take a rest day as I will be working this weekend, both days. It's "Spring Black Friday" at Home Depot this weekend so it will be busy.

Diane Sue- Great job with Lite Cardio Party and CD Dorner Mobility. I’m glad things are going well with Harvey. He sounds like a sweetheart.

Cathy-I’m glad your power finally came back. I feel so bad for everyone that was impacted by the severe weather this week.

Valerie-Nice job with the spin and weights. Ice storms are the worst. We were very fortunate to have avoided the worst of the Michigan weather this week.

Shannon-Nice job with your weight workout, Xtrain abs and ICE Chiseled Lower Body Blast. I am glad that the storms weren’t too bad for you last night.

Carolyn-Great job with Cardio Quick Fix and LMR Pilates Fusion with Lower Body Foam Rolling.

We did a road ride this afternoon, our usual 15 mile one. 1 hr 15 minutes. still pretty cool when we went around noon but workable. partly sunny!.

I feel so bad for those of you in the storm paths. sure seems like a rough year for it with more intense storms more often than usual. we don't get ice storms often here but with all the trees itsa mess when they happen. lived for a few years near Portland OR. the columbia river gorge there is absolutely famous for having perfect conditions for ice storms. we lived thru quite few. ice storms, flooding, thunder and lightning, tornadoes, what more can mother nature throw at you?

Hi, ladies. Yesterday I did PHA3, my favorite of Cathe's PHA workouts. It's got a lot of cardio too and had me breathing hard. The local news didn't report anymore tornadoes from yesterday's storms, thank goodness. We got lots of rain though. At one point, we had the most incredible, massive downpour I've ever seen. I don't know how it's even possible for that much rain to be in the clouds. Our creek jumped the road that my parents use to get back to their house, and downstream a bit, it almost washed out our very large culverts and bridge. That area of the property is quite a mess, but not a huge problem because we only use it for walking or farm access.

Carolyn - good job on the pilates and foam rolling workouts.

Judy - I hope you have a restful day today. "Spring Black Friday" sounds like it will be very busy. Be sure to take breaks and get off your feet when you can.

Valerie - wow, sunshine? Lucky you! I'm glad you had a good road ride. And even gladder that you don't live up by the Columbia River Gorge anymore.

Cathy - What a mess that must be, having a major bridge closed for so long. I sure hope the area is done with ice. Good work on To the Mat.

Hello to Diane.

This morning I did a Killer Legs timesaver premix. That was 26 miles, 102 calories burned, average heart rate 112, and maximum heart rate 135. Then I did JS 15 Minute Calorie Blast for 15 minutes and 116 calories burned.

Judy, great job with 45 minute Peloton walk, 45 minute Yin Yoga class, Live PHA #2, and Peloton stretch. I imagine that your work days will be very busy as people take advantage of the sale. Many will be trying to avoid possible price increases.

Valerie, great job with the road ride. These storms seem to be relentless.

Cathy, great job with ICE To the Mat. I’m glad that the bridge has reopened.

Shannon, great job with PHA 3. I’m glad that you and your family can get around all of the problems caused by the heavy rain.

Hello to Diane Sue.

No workout today. I am tired and watching Amazon for a sofa that we have going to my youngest daughter's house. It says delivery today UPS but still does not say out for delivery. I need to let her know when it is arriving, and she may need help with assembly. Maybe rains are slowing it down. I hurt so bad yesterday and even worse last night. My right shoulder suddenly started burning and so painful for no apparent reason. I ended up icing it and took some curcumin since I am avoiding Advil and Meloxicam does nothing for me. I have had a lot of cramping and pain in my upper arms. Hip and knees are hurting and I just decided I would just do nothing today.
Wednesday I did Lift Move and Restore functional lower body skipping the step portion and standing band work(timesaver #5) lightening up a bit and adding the balance discs, 60 minutes, 177 calories. Followed with LMR foam roller lower body 18 minutes, 47 calories. Yesterday I did Lift Move & Restore Functional mobility fusion and bonus cardio, 52 minutes, 210 calories, heart rate 104/153. I was hoping that would loosen things up, but only got worse. I sent a message to my Rheumatologist about this medicine. My blood pressure is high. I usually can keep it in the normal zone. The DMARD is really slowing my productivity and does not seem to be helping.
A lot of rain and no walks for Harvey. He has the doggie door down now and goes in and out by himself. Mostly in because he tries to get us to go outside with him to play.

Shannon, I live in Oklahoma City. We have more rain coming tomorrow and AccuWeather has a winter cast of snow 4 hours Saturday night. It does say low 35 though so we will see. I thought it was spring!

we did a load of gardening today. i am diminished in what i can do from even last year. general aches and pains I can walk ok but gardening takes the starch out of me quickly. I wear a back brace more often now as preventive and it helps some. riding is still ok. we are having a stretch of decent weather. sunny and mild today. 65 or so and lovely. tomorrow will be similar. diane sue i recently tried meloxicam. did not work for me either. advil works but I dont want to be taking something every 4 hours. if you have not tried Voltaren you might ask your doc for a trial. that one works by far best for me and its an old drug, nothing new and expensive. I started plaquenil ( Dmard)2 days ago. I seem to remember you might be taking it? i dont have an inflammatory arthritis but they want to see if it still might help but it does not work quickly. Id love to hear anything you can share about it.

I did a whole slew of therapy work along with the gardening. might ride again tomorrow. DH's knee is still not right but better than it was.

I was a little kid when I saw the mackinac bridge. i think we went to the island on tourist type things. horse and buggy things? cant remember anything else but I was thinking you could not drive there but had to use their transport system of horse drawn vehicles.

Today I did My Finished Step combos and Live Lean and Mean Upper Body. I will say that using the word mean in the title is an excellent choice. :p

Valerie Mackinac Island is feet, bikes and horses. And emergency vehicles, ambulance, police, fire, and this week energy company trucks because they got hit with the ice storm, too. We got married on the island.

Shannon it causes huge issues when the bridge is closed. Even in winter the monthly crossings are over 200,000 and peak months July and August each cross 600,000. It's a way into Canada, and other than going all the way down through Chicago and up through Wisconsin the only way to get to the UP. Lots of vacationers and three decent size colleges. Normally a closure lasts a few hours at most, but this time of year you get falling ice and they have to close until it stops. It's falling from a distance, and can easily smash windshields. Usually it's caused by thawing and freezing patterns, but this week added an ice storm. For a few hours people go to restaurants or other places to hang out, but with no power it was a bigger mess than usual. We have lots of casinos here and the one there opened up for people to come get warm, charge devices, and even set up a food area for people and said bring your kids and board games. Churches will also open up.

cathy I got out a map since I was a kid then, and never drove in the area, to remind myself what area looks like. i dont remember if we did a horse drawn thing? my father was really cheap so probably not. usually we went to Door county. they were not great travelers. cars weren't reliable back then either. he was all excited about the locks at sault ste marie. i remember not especially enjoying watching boats go from lock to lock. i was probably 6 or 7. we have a lot of bridges here along side of or over water. the extra humidity helps with ice collection too. can get very exciting.

we rode this morning, a pleasant 15 miles. started cold mid 40's but warmed up nicely. probably 60 when we got done.

Today I did Gloved Up and Sweaty, 41 minutes, 239 calories, heart rate 131/152. Finished with KCM Raw yoga stretch 14 minutes 23 calories. Harvey amazes me, and I wonder at the people that had him. Evenings when I go get my pajamas on he sits outside the bath door. I come out and he runs and gets in his crate without any cuing for bedtime. I give him a cookie and close it and pet him. He seems to pick up on our habits quickly. When I start gathering my water and agenda book to work out he heads to the workout room. Snow chances tonight. Boy is it cold. I don't think it will stick though as it is still above 32 and very windy.

Valerie, I have been taking Plaquenil generic for 7 years now. Originally he had me taking two tabs a day, but I took it to one at night and the doctor said that is okay. It made me feel bad enough I had to lay down for a while. It doesn't do that anymore. My doctor has me still taking it along with Arava generic. I read that they should not be used together on meds. I am having a terrible time with blood pressure with it. I look at the graph two months ago and I was almost always in the normal range. Now it is passed elevated to high all week. My cardiovascular doctor would not be pleased and I have a medical stress test coming up in July. Anyway, Plaquenil has helped a little and I had to stop it before shoulder surgery and I realized that maybe it helped some. Advil works for me, but it raises my blood pressure some so I only use it when I really have not been able to sleep because of pain. I find Ultra Cur Advance Curcumin formula helps more than meloxicam and about as well as Advil. I just got some more of it. They have a patented formula that helps the body absorb it better using a scaffold. It is a Local company, and a friend told me about it because her doctor gave it to her. It was a lot of help getting off the pain stuff when I had the shoulder surgery. Paquenil does take some time to start helping. The Arava says 6 plus weeks before noticeable results. All I have felt is more pain than I already had. I have only used the Volteran gel and it takes a while to work as well. My primary doctor had me use lidocaine pain patches and they broke me out in a rash.

Hi to everyone I am headed to bed and will check back tomorrow.
