Pentagenarians & Beyond: 03/16/2025

TGIF, ladies. I’m taking off at noon to run some errands that need to be done during business hours. I am pretty happy about this, LOL. Yesterday I did STS 2.0 Supersets Total Body. It’s a good workout, but the two-minute rests between supersets drive me nuts. I know that if you are lifting heavy enough to hypertrophy, the rests are beneficial. But that’s not where I am, so it seems like a big waste of time. I skipped the rests, which totaled close to 15 minutes, and added a nice stretch at the end, after I did RWH Abs #1. But maybe next time I’ll just keep lifting during the breaks. We shall see.

Valerie – I’m glad you had a good drive. I hope the weather improves so you can get outside. Oh man, talking about Yellowstone reminds me of the summer I worked there during college. It was fabulous. I hiked nearly all the time I wasn’t working. I feel sorry for people who are only able to visit for a week, LOL. It’s an incredible place. April is just around the corner – I know you’re really looking forward to being released from your medical restrictions.

Carolyn – Nice job with Functional Barre Fusion. I agree with your assessment. I’m working to find a good place to use it in my rotation.

Judy – Whew, you have your work cut out for you! But it will be so nice when it’s all done. Funny thing, I still like popcorn ceiling, LOL. I don’t know why. You’re doing great on fitting workouts in with all the other stuff going on.

Hello to Cathy and Diane.

Shopped yesterday. I just finished doing Low Max step combos. Did I ever tell you guys that Nick's roommate found a cat and ended up keeping her. Kitty was skinny, and was filling out nicely and yesterday presented them with 4 unexpected kittens. Sigh Not what they needed, but they are rolling with it. Nick has been wanting a cat ever since he left MI, and I talked him out of it because he really doesn't know where he's going to end up, and now he'll have a couple months of cute adorable kittens running around to tempt him. Derek is planning to move to a bigger apartment and get a cat as soon as he can. But at least he is somewhat settled!

Valerie you see elk in the wild, Derek has gotten one to trust him enough to take carrots from his hands. LOL Also all the three of their bison. I'm glad your trip there was uneventful and you found everything there good.

Gotta run, I'm really behind and I have things scheduled for most of the afternoon.

This morning I did KCM’s Cardio Fit Cardio Kickbox, no weights. That was 21 minutes, 143 calories burned, average heart rate 131, and maximum heart rate 154. Then I did P 30 Extended Stretch for an additional 8 minutes.

Judy, great job with walking, Peloton Strength, rowing, Peloton ride and stretching. Nice work on your remodeling project.

Shannon, nice job with STS 2 Supersets Total Body and RWH Abs #1.

Cathy, great job with your Low Max combos.

Hello to Valerie and Diane Sue.

yesterday I did a fast 12 minutes on the elliptical then stacked upper body . thru it once and repeated about half the moves a second time, using heavier weight then therapy. this morning we drove into the park and xc skied. first time in at least 2 years. it was hard and I felt like a beginner but we did 2 hrs and 45 minutes. knees don't like it much these days. they don't hurt that much but feel unstable.

oh cathy that is rough to get kittens like that. i hope they get momma cat fixed asap. many communities have free or reduced fee spay/neuter clinics a starving student or young person can afford. she could get pregnant again in a heartbeat. so true about animal. , food will bring them in in good ways and bad. love seeing them trusting and up close, but the next person might have a rifle and they dont know to be afraid.

judy that sounds like a big project. a mess for months, but a lovely end result. the problem with popcorn ceilings is they often contained asbestos fiber which is carcinogenic. fine if it stays in place, but disturbing it makes an aerosol you don't want to inhale. all probably don't, but why risk it? they are always suspect.

Today I did 40 minutes of Peloton rides, 10 minutes of upper body and 30 minutes of stretching and foam rolling.

Shannon-Great job with STS 2.0 Supersets Total Body and RWH Abs #1. RWH Abs #1 is one of my Cathe ab workouts, along with Xtrain Abs 2.

Cathy-Great job with the Low Max Combos.

Carolyn-Great job with KCM’s Cardio Fit Cardio Kickbox and the P30 Extended Stretch.

Valerie- Great job with the elliptical, stacked upper body and the long xc ski session. It’s definitely going to be a mess around here for months.

Hi to Diane Sue

Yesterday I did CDorner Step and Strength 39 minutes, 253 calories, heart rate 134/161 followed by CDorner 30 minute mobility: release tight joints and move freely 26 minutes, 85 calories. I had to work around Havey because he decided to lay by one end of the step. Fortunately, the step portion of the workout was basic moves not travelling around the bench. I was going to do one today and was setting up when my daughter called. By the time we were done talking my husband was up getting ready for work so I fixed him his dinner and showered so he could watch the dog instead of me doing it with the dog in the bathroom. He is in the big chewing phase and is 8 months old and looks like a German shepherd mix. His ears do not stand up. Cuddly and sweet, but tough to get to go in the crate. Can't lure him with treats. He suspects what you are trying to do. He has hung close to me all day and is lying by my chair right now. I did an express grocery order from Walmart right away because he chewed a hole in his blanket they sent home with him and the dog mat I had put out for him to lie on right after he got here and started to go for the rug. So I got a lot of chew things and toys.

Shannon, nice work on Rodney Yees Yoga. Every time I think of Sun Salutations I remember the P90X Yoga that was an hour long and the first 30 minutes was nothing but sun salutations. I would do the first 15 minutes and move to 32 minutes on the workout to avoid doing them that long. When they do the rest I usually use my foam roller to lie on and do some of the arm moves Cathe does. I am not good at lying there doing nothing. It is tough losing a pet.

Valerie, I am glad the drive was good and no issues to deal with this time. This is much sooner than other times for getting another pet. The day we put her down my husband and I were both in tears. He said he was never getting another dog because it was rough to lose them. I knew better. My daughter in law told him she never saw us without a dog. She was such a big part of our days. Missed her greeting when we came in the door, our play times, she could say I love you and her and my husband would howl I love you. It just felt empty here. Gertie was a dog found on the street and my husband rescued her from going to the pound. She was around 2 months old when we got her.
I think Harvey was abused by a woman. First day he stayed close to my husband and would circle and duck when I would try to pet him. Then when I would call him to me he dropped to the floor cowering and crawled to me and peed on the floor. He has since come to trust me though. Also, once I had my hand up and went to reach to pet him and he ducked. The woman that found him and his sister was going to foster till they found someone to take them. He opened their bathroom door that had the pull down handles where she put him and I guess she was gone and he chewed up her couch so he went to the shelter and she kept the female with her. Not sure who was mistreating him, but it is obvious. Big difference now though. He came running to me when I went outside with him and is now staying close to me. Hopefully whatever ugliness happened will be forgotten.

Carolyn, good job on LMR Functional Barre Fusion. I like that workout and agree that it is more work than I thought it would be.

Judy, it sounds like you have a lot of work ahead of you. We got a new bed and mattress. The mattress is here, but the bed won't be here till next week. Our other mattress was really old and we wanted to get the bed that would match the rest of the bedroom furniture. We got a mattress that is supposed to be chiropractor recommended.
Nice job on Tuesday's 40 minute walk and 45minute Peloton Full Body strength workout, yesterday's row, and today's 45 minute Peloton ride and a 15 minute stretch.

Today I did Lower/Upper balance discs and Restorative Yoga. Last night I watched Wicked. My sister and I watched it when I visited her, and I've been waiting for it to get on Wicked. So good, and I picked up on things I missed the first time. Now for the long wait till part 2.

Diane Sue, if you tried a pen instead of a crate would he be able to jump out? The last dog we had was interesting when it came to destruction. The only thing he destroyed in the house were his toys. That summer we kept the door open to the porch/yard, because at the time the only cats we had were the neighbors who had moved to our house and didn't use litter boxes. So, he could go in and out when he wanted, and he would steal shoes and take them outside to destroy them. Even after I thought, I'd managed to get all the shoes where he couldn't get them, he still managed another couple before he stopped.

Valerie that's great that you got to cross country ski! Kitty is only indoors now, so it'll be harder for her to get pregnant. But I agree that once the kittens are weaned she needs to be fixed.

Judy I hope your project moves along as swiftly as possible.

Hi Carolyn and Shannon.

This is my rest day today. I made a quick trip to the Farmer’s Market and the two stores that are on the way there.

Great job with your workouts ladies. Have a wonderful day.

Hi, everyone. Yesterday I did Bodystrikes 3 by Ilaria Montagnani. It was hard! I was sweating buckets. Today was a get things done day. Yard work, cleaning house, wash the car, laundry, some necessary computer work (which is why I decided to stop by) and of course walk the dog. Oh yeah, and Sara and I walked the fence line up in the woods to make sure no trees landed on it after the other day when we had 50 mph winds. All is well.

Cathy – I hope Nick and his roommate can find homes for the kittens when they grow up a bit. Five cats in one home is a lot.

Carolyn – Nice work with Cardio Fit Cardio Kickbox and the P30 extended stretch the other day. Enjoy your rest day today.

Valerie – I’ll bet XC skiing was hard after being out of practice for so long! I hope you enjoyed your time outside, even though it was hard. Good job.

Judy – Nice work on the 40 minute Peloton ride, along with your upper body work and recovery work.

Diane – Harvey sounds like a wonderful dog. Puppies and young dogs are hard to deal with sometimes, but totally worth it. It’s always sad when you realize a dog has been abused. We’re pretty sure my previous dog was, too. I’m so glad you gave Harvey a home. It sounds like he loves you already. OMG, I can’t even imagine 30 minutes of sun salutations. I’ve never done P90X anything, but if I had that DVD, I would have thrown it in the trash! UGH.

Today I did LMR Upper Body 50 minutes, 189 calories followed by LMR upper foam roller 14 minutes 41 calories.
Here is a picture of Harvey when I was on the foam roller. Hope not too big.

I give up trying to shrink the picture.

Finally found an app with resize on it. What a lot of time I spent. I still have things to do and finally stopped to feed Harvey and myself. I am sort of dragging today. I slept in the recliner last night beside Harvey on his bed. My husband came in at 5:30 and talked to me a bit and I fell back asleep and Harvey as well. I will be glad when I can go sleep on my new mattress.

Cathy, nice job on the balance discs and restorative yoga. Gertie pretty much destroyed her toys and bedding for a long time. We had another dog and her and she never bothered our stuff or tried to eat our dinner. Now the other dog did dive bomb my husbands plate a couple of times and stole my tuna sandwich off the counter. Also lost socks were usually hidden under her bedding in her crate.
I ordered a large steel crate with heavy bars, lots of room, and most people that had escape artists had good results. Harvey wants my husband and I both to be around. I would say high anxiety. I do not think a pen would do as she has claw marks way up the hall door where she was trying to escape. I just wanted to sleep without worrying about absence causing her to tear things up. No luck with the closed in medium crate we have. I tugged on a short leash hoping to lead her in. No such luck. she had a grip on her bed and I finally got in her face and calmly told her she really needs to go in the crate. If she freaks out all of the time we won't be able to go out without someone here. I never had a problem with my other dogs and the crate. Even when they were older and could roam while gone they would go in there crates like it was their private cave. Their crates were left open.

Carolyn, I hope you had a nice rest day.

Shannon, good job on Body Strikes 3. Ilaria had some pretty tough workouts. I should be finishing up inside stuff today as I have outside things to do as well.

ohh harvey is adorable~. a big guy too. if he was abused at all, maybe he was shut into something likea closet or some other tight place? this is so new, it might take a while. I've only had one dog so I'm no expert but he has to develop trust that you're not going to hurt him and that he will get out of it( crate) again.
today it snowed some on and off but we planned to take it off and do laundry and cleaning.
we will not stay long and probably leaving monday or tuesday. we knew this woud not be a long visit. i have an extensive shpping list. our laptop died suddenly too. its an old apple laptop but we relied on it here

i did 15 on the elliptical and a big long set of therapy exercises and a few sets of curls and presses plus stretching.
