Pentagenarians and Beyond: June 1, 2025

ended up doing more gardening today because it was cooler and cloudy, much easier to get things done then. its a microclimate area where our garden sits, and it gets very warm there.

congrats on getting in some walking. the older you are, the more likely you are assumed to be a total coach potato. many people are completely inactive, so the assumption is you cant do much. we all are used to exercising. if you pay attention to how you feel during and after, you will be ok.

i agree with shannon, decent jeans or pants and a Tshirt is fine for jury duty. most of the people called in are dismissed anyway and only a few selected. I always assume the AC might be set to 60 so unless you know better, wear something with sleeves.

i think we are almost certainly changing dental offices and have a young guy picked out close by that our friends use. no worries about him retiring on us! this will possibly change if she identified some real problems.

depending on your shower set up , a cheapie plastic $5 outdoor chair might work. i used one recovering from back surgery and from the pacer surgery. our shower is a plain shower , not in a tub. . plenty of room for the chair and the hand held sprayer. DH set the water temp so i would not get blasted with ice cold water to start. i could sit and safely wash off. worked way better than a walker. I set the walker right outside the shower so i could move out safely. no tub so nothing much to step over. with both surgeries i had to be sure I didn't blast the surgical site with a powerful direct shower spray. the chair made it easier to wash my hair etc. when my mobility was limited. you can buy $$special medical chairs for use in a shower but we already had cheapie outdoor chairs that worked fine, plus now they are back outside on the deck. our outdoor furniture is smaller inexpensive chairs. if i slide into a fancy adirondack chair, i will never get out.

Good morning. I did Rodney Yee’s Yoga for Athletes yesterday. The title sounds promising, right? OMG was it boring. It was so slow! I’m taking that one off my list.

Carolyn – Nice work with KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix. Avocado toast is yummy! Have you ever tried an avocado and egg sandwich? Seriously good.

Valerie – I’m glad you had good weather for gardening.

Hello to Judy, Cathy and Diane.

Have a great day, everyone.

Yesterday I did a 90-minute Peloton Ride. The first 30 minutes I did higher intensity intervals and the rest was at an easy zone 1 pace. It’s been a while since I did a longer ride and it felt good to get it in.

Diane Sue-Nice job with the Jessica Smith Walk and talk. That’s good that your granddaughter is going to help you with things.

Shannon-Nice job with your version of ICE Chiseled Lower Body Blast and Yoga for Athletes. It’s too bad that the yoga one didn’t live up to its name.

Carolyn-Nice job with KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout one. I hope your husband’s PT and OT is going well.

Hi to Cathy & Valerie

wow judy, 90 min on an indoor bike is unimaginable to me. strong work on that!. outdoors im fine with that time but not indoors. 30 min max we did our regular road ride today 75 ,minutes,

i did stacked upper body last night along with therapy. i love avocado toast. absolutely love it with nice toasted seedy bread. i would add some sliced tomato when home grown ones arrive. and a homemade bread would put it over the top, lots of garden work yesterday too.

ive had the least success with yoga workouts. either too hard or too easy, too fast or too slow. person is annoying. doing moves i cant even remotely hope to do. something always wrong.

This morning I did LMR Functional Pilates Fusion + Lower Body Foam Rolling. That was 51 minute, 160 calories burned, average heart rate 106, maximum heart rate 138.

Valerie, it’s good that you had cooler weather for your gardening work. Nice job with Stacked Sets Upper Body. I love avocado toast too. I have a slice almost every morning with some type of protein if I don’t have oatmeal.

Shannon, I’m sorry that Rodney Yee’s Yoga for Athletes didn’t meet your expectations. I do have eggs with my avocado toast. It‘s something that I really like.

Judy, that’s an impressive ride at 90 minutes! Great job.

Hello to Cathy and Diane Sue.

Today I did CDorner youtube Move to Improve beginner #18 walking cardio, 25 minutes, 151 calories, heart rate 125/150. This was slower than Jessica Smith walk. Jessica kind of picks up the speed a bit.

Shannon, nice work on your Ice Chiseled Lower Body Blast cardio only version yesterday and today's Rodeny Yee yoga for athletes. I have only tried one of his yoga workouts and I picked it up at a library. I did not care for it. For Athletes on the name would lead one to expect a more athletic form of yoga.
Jessica Smith Walk workouts work out well when I need to slow down.

Carolyn, nice job on yesterday's KCM Cardio Quick Fix and Today's LMR Functional Pilates Fusion and Lower Body foam rolling

Valerie, good job on Stacked Sets Upper Body Last Night along with therapy.

Judy, great job on the 90 minute Peloton ride. That was a long ride.

Good morning, ladies. Yesterday I did ICE Metabolic Total Body, the premix that includes Core #1. I’ve always really liked this workout.

Judy – Great job on the long Peloton ride. Yep, sometimes a long sweatfest really feels good.

Valerie – Nice work on the road ride. No way in h*** would I ride on our road. There’s no shoulder for a bike to get over, and I don’t trust the back country drivers out here. At least when I walk, I can step down into the ditch if needed.

Carolyn – Good job on the Pilates and foam rolling. Now you’ve got me thinking about an egg sandwich. I don’t have any avocado though.

Diane – How did the CDorner walk feel, compared to Jessica’s? Do you think it’s better for your back since it’s easier?

Hi to Cathy.

Shannon we ride a paved bike/walking trail. we ride some roads around here but very few . mostly in farming areas. there are small sections on busy roads, like going across bridges, where there is no bike lane. no way will you win a duel with a car or an asshat driver. no death wish here! this area has a large number of old railroad right-of-ways that are paved and used as walking and riding trails. i call it road riding because we are on road bikes (not mountain bikes) since the trail is paved. horses use these trails too but not many. there are several road crossings and some drivers are such jerks! had one yesterday that blew right thru the stop sign.

saw my first merganser family yesterday, a mama duck and 13 ducklings. hope for more!

This morning I did JS One Mile of Motivation for 15 minutes, 118 calories burned, average heart rate 140, and maximum heart rate 161. Then I did STS 2 Mobility #2 for an additional 19 minutes. I didn’t feel very energetic today and changed my mind about the PHA workout that I had planned. The mobility was especially helpful with some tightness.

Diane Sue, nice job with CDorner Move to Improve walking cardio. Jessica’s workouts seem to hit just the right balance for intensity without over doing it.

Shannon, great job with ICE Metabolic Total Body + Core 1.

Hello to Valerie, Judy, and Cathy.

Yesterday I did a 30-minute full body strength workout and today I did a 45-minute Peloton ride.

Valerie-Great job with Stacked Upper Body, the road ride and your therapy work.

Carolyn-Great job with LMR Functional Pilates Fusion + Lower Body Foam Rolling, JS One Mile of Motivation and STS 2 Mobility #2.

Diane Sue-Great job with CDorner Move to Improve.

Shannon-Great job with ICE Metabolic Total Body with Core 1. I’ve always liked that workout too. I need to do some ICE workouts again soon.

Shopped yesterday. This morning I did Live Boss Bands and Loops: Metabolic and the Restorative Yoga.

I like avocado toast, but when I'm traveling, I'll take along avocados and a small nice, cut them in half, remove the seed and then sprinkle with some Everything Bagel Seasoning. Just need a spoon. And easy to do in a hotel.

Judy hats off on the 90 minutes of riding. I get much too bored inside for anything that length.

Shannon I totally get not wanting to ride where you live. We are 5 and 10 minutes from towns, but our road is crazy and even the semi's that we get (more than you'd think) are flying at 65+. I used to ride out here early mornings and Sundays, but even that became iffy and too many not so friendly dogs so I stopped. I've found very few yoga workouts that I like over the years, but I can do long stretch videos. Which just seems like such a weird dynamic.

Diane Sue it's great that you've been able to increase the time you are walking.

Hi Carolyn.

I did not get in a walk today. I did some wiping down things in the kitchen and fingerprints on the stainless appliances. Tomorrow, I have a heart CT scheduled so it will be done before I go for my cardiology appointment.

Shannon, nice work on Ice Metabolic Total Body premix that includes core 1. The CDorner walk workout seemed very much for beginners which is what it was geared for. I don't really think the CDorner one was better for my back. They both did some arm moves, but Chris did not suggest you might want to pick it up and jog.

Valerie, I would be afraid of riding a bike on the roads. Even country roads have people flying up the road and probably paying less attention. My husband road his ebike to work one night and worried a lot about someone not seeing him even though he has lights and his helmet has a light. His work is 5 miles away or so not real far. I bet the ducklings are cute.

Carolyn, good job on JS 1 Mile of Motivation and STS 2 Mobility #2.

Judy, nice work on yesterday's full body strength workout and today's 45 minute Peloton ride.

Cathy, nice job on Live Boss Bands and Loops: Metabolic and the restorative yoga.

there are only a few places I ride on roads with vehicles. the areas we ride are well known bike routes in farm country. we go early morning on weekends. even if roads have shoulders, all the debris and broken glass ends up swept to the shoulder making it worse than the traffic lane. fixing a flat alongside a busy road is really horrendous!. only a few places are reasonably safe. even the "safe" routes have sections with traffic usually for less than a mile. we've ridden routes with dog problems. used bear spray more than once but try to avoid bu adjusting the route. it isnt reasonable anymore to ride most places. we ride designated bike trails usually with walkers and horses . 40 years ago there were loads of places to ride but more people and traffic ended that. people are distracted with screens and kids and pets. no point to being "in the right" but dead or seriously injured because some moron wasn't paying attention.
even riding a designated bike trail separate from the road, there are a few crossing points with a crosswalk and lights. you cannot assume people will stop even if there are people crossing in the walkway. i ride defensively. almost everyone stops but sometimes there is an asshat who blows thru the intersection . no category. can be young or old, male or female. i ride first so i stop if there is any doubt!

diane sue best of luck on the cardiac procedure. usually there is nothing invasive. always nice to schedule tests before the actual appt so results are available.

the ducklings were in the heading downstream in the river. i didnt get a good look. snapped a pic but they didnt show up. hopefully there will be more broods to watch as more hatch and take to the water.

doing garden work today. then our neighbor is bringing over her new puppy for us to play with. he is a blue heeler and absolutely adorable.

Today I did LIC Step Combos and some stretching for my lower back that was a bit tight. My sister has been driving me nuts for months as they are doing some remodeling in their kitchen, and it takes her forever to decide because it has to be perfect. She finally had everything decided, went and bought the paint for the lower cupboards which they are doing themselves and got it home and it's too dark which I agree with. However, we have very different tastes in decorating, and I just kept wanting to say why are you asking me because you know very well we aren't going to agree! :p It's amazing we get along so well, because we have very different likes and dislikes.

Valerie have fun playing with the puppy! They are cute, but exhausting. LOL

Diane Sue glad the you will be able to get the test before your appointment. Definitely easier in that order.
