Penagenarians & Beyond: W/B 10/6

Because DH and I live here and know the area VERY WELL, we were able to stay where we wanted, and knew options.... but visitors... probably too hard to figure out. we knew what would likely be inaccessible and planned accordingly. it's just large scale with the nat. parks being forced to carry out ridiculous scenarios.....not that some of their employees aren't "up" to the task. we've had run ins with nat park employees more than once.... not pleasant.
this was a locally written article about people hiking the pacific crest trail and being blocked by north cascade national park rangers from completing the last 50 miles of their trip. I saw the signs, so it's accurate. there is a lot of snow unexpectedly early so they may have had problems completing by the trail itself but no one should try to prevent them from trying. these people have walked 2550 miles from mexico and have only the last 50 miles to go, for thru hikers maybe 2 days.
but yes, we really can't play whack-a-mole with the national economy for some idealistic self centered crap. I do not have any Repub representation to shriek at.

Lori, check is in the mail. thank you. DH gets pedal power for his B-day in mid November. so hard to find surprise gifts! no word on "how it is" for a while.
judy hope Tiger bounces back. I am such a total cat person, I know they can't live forever but just love the little guys. strong work on levitation holds, my dream. Deb, I love dogs too, but too complicated with our lives right now.

Good morning,

So glad it's Friday, and I took a half of a vacation day today. I had originally taken the whole day, thinking that I had entered the agility trial for 2 days, Friday & Saturday. When I got my e-mail confirmation I found that I had only entered the one day, which I was glad to see. Sometimes I wonder what is going on with my head! Anyway, off this afternoon, not sure what I will be doing.

Valerie, your trip sounds nice, except for the park closings etc. As for the new workouts, I only did Flex Train so far, and I liked it a lot! A great total body workout, lots of new compound moves, very refreshing stuff. I think I will like the X-10 one, there is so much variety and tons of premixes. I will be selling the Step ones and probably the Greatest Hits on Ebay. Not sure what I will do on the kickbox one. I may keep it for some variety, Kickbox is not my favorite cardio, but once in a while it's good to do something different.

Judy, glad you are able to get Tiger to eat some, it should start making him feel better. High Five your way for doing a levitation hold! :). Those are tough! I could never master them, but really didn't give it a chance I guess.

Lori, good job on doing the rotation, those are tough.

Hi to Josie, Lynda,

Beautiful weather here this week, cool and night and high 60's and sunny during the day. Perfect.

What is everyone doing this weekend?

Hi ladies--

I have been doing the new workouts since I returned from the wedding on Monday. Tuesday I did Rockout Knockout, and I enjoyed it, but will probably wear my 1 lb. gloves for the whole workout next time. Wednesday I did Flex Train, and like everyone else, I really love this total body workout. Yesterday I did the Step Hits 50 min. premix, because it includes one of my faves in step--all of the step portion from SJP. I really worked up a sweat on this one because it concludes with Athletic Step, the combined combos and blasts. Phew! Today I did a 55 min. premix from Great Glutes (the one that replaces the ball work with chair work because I always have trouble with roll-ins) and this one reminds me of Brazil Butt Lift a lot. I wonder if I will have doms tomorrow. I like the variety on this one.

The wedding was a lot of fun. The vows were in a courtroom in Ramsey County, St. Paul, MN, followed by an incredible meal at a place called Moscow on the Hill. They serve Russian/Jewish food and infused vodka shots, which I thought I would not like, but boy was I ever wrong! The infusions were chocolate-vanilla, cherry, and horseradish. The next day was a big reception on Lake Como. We had a lot of time with my friends and her family. Just a great time.

I had my MRI on Tuesday, and it showed osteoarthritis and tendinitis (inflammation). I had another cortisone shot on Wednesday, so it feels pretty good, but I don't think I will ever do STS again, since that seems to be what set off all of my problems.

DH and I are going out tomorrow night to celebrate our 33rd anniversary.

There is an ongoing saga about my sister-in-law's death and the various characters involved--a stupid girl, a drug dealer, and a boyfriend who likes souped-up cars, and police who should have done a much better job. Given the opportunity, DH will probably make a statement in court when sentencing rolls around. He is still having a hard time with this. I am trying to write something because that is the way I deal with things.

I am thoroughly disgusted with the Republicans in congress. And I am tired of people saying there's plenty of blame on both sides. No, the Tea Party is at fault here, and the GOP moderates have enslaved themselves to a bunch of ideologues.

Judy, sorry about Tiger. I don't know much about cats, but it sounds like you are doing everything right.

did a really nice hike today, about 7 miles, 300 feet gain/loss. 6 hours. supposed to be cloudy but didn't get cloudy until afternoon and very lovely cloud formations. lots more snow than normal for this time, and pretty slippery and muddy.

watched evening news and it sounded like the R's are going to come to the table and be cooperative. I certainly hope so... Lynda, totally right ... this is not on Obama or the Dems, they were left with no choice. the ACA is law, Obama was re-elected on basis of it, and it's childish to act like it can just be undone.... I certainly hope this type of extortion for political gain doesn't become a habit.

Judy, hope your kitty is doing better.

Happy Weekend!

I ended up going to lunch with my cousin, then getting a mani-pedi. Agility trial today, could be a lot of fun if Keegan cooperates! You know how he is..

Lynda, the wedding sounds wonderful. Sorry about the osteoarthritis and tendinitis. Glad the shot gives you some relief. What is it about STS do you think that causes it to get worse? Happy Anniversary! Ours is tomorrow, 29 years.

Judy, hope Tiger is doing better,

Hi to Josie, Lori,

Take care,

Good morning ladies!

Ran yesterday morning then a premix of pedal power in the evening. I have yet to do this entire workout. Her rotation called for the entire wokout
but since I ran in the morning I felt I could get away with a premix. :). Today is xtrain ch,bk,sh. Going to try out PRS2 again too.

Lynda....the wedding does sound lovely. Was nice you were able to spend time with your friend also. Stinks about your shoulder. Mine is felling good and hoping things are behind me from my recent injury. Prior to this when doing STS I would avoid barbells whenever I could and used dumbbells in its place. I just do not like a barbell and felt my right should was always uncomfortable. This seemed to work well for me.

Valerie...great hike. Weather seemed to behave for you too.

Judy...thinking of you.

Happy anniversary to Deb and Lynda!

Happy weekend everyone!

It is beautiful here today--definitely Indian Summer. I did Housemax this morning, and it really needed it because the last two weekends were foreshortened by the wedding and the memorial service.

Lori, I'm pretty sure it's trying to swing a heavy barbell over my head on to my shoulders that really hurts. I also don't think all of those pushups are the best for the inner shoulder area.

Happy anniversary, Deb! Keegan is his own dog with his own mind. Hope he decides to have fun!

Out to dinner tonight!

Hi to Judy, Valerie, and Josie!

I haven't re-done STS in a while, thinking about this winter as soon as we get done with vacations. thanks once more to the R's that messed up our plans big time. and it still isn't straightened out!

STS--for some reason I felt pushed ( somewhat by myself) to increase weights steadily. I hurt my shoulder too. I've noticed that with other upper body weight workouts, I arrive at a weight, record it, and stay in the same range consistently. maybe I use weighted gloves, maybe not, but no big/ constant jumps or increases. If I've been off for more than a week, I back off a little too. especially on moves where one arm is crossed over my upper body... that was the move that did it last time.
maybe I won't get all that much stronger in a short term but I 've been consistently able to do workouts without injury for a good 2 years now. being down with an injury is a much bigger setback. when I restart STS I'm going to be mindful of that. I don't want it to sound like I'm sliding by without trying, but maybe we push injury risk by trying to increase too much too fast. I'm more careful now.

happy anniversary Deb and Lynda. mine is in Dec but I am forgetting how many years.. 31 or 32??

Lynda, infused shots? that sounds like something I should NOT learn more about.. but describe them anyway please! sounds like the food was better than "Fargo" the first thing I think of when I hear MN or northern WI mentioned.

on my last post, the elevation gain/loss was 3000 feet, not 300. Big difference....

Happy Anniversary to Deb & Lynda!

Tiger is about the same today. Still trying to get him to eat and not making much progress. It's so hard to see him sick. :( He is the sweetest, most affectionate cat I've ever had.

Yesterday I did a Spinerval and today I did YardMax at FIL's house. We had unseasonably warm weather today, sunny and in the high 70's, so it was a nice day to be outside. SIL is coming next week to take FIL to his follow up memory assessment.

Tomorrow will be church in the morning and hopefully I'll be able to get some time to workout in the afternoon.

Hi to Valerie, Lori, & Josie,

Judy
