Patella Incongruence

Does anyone lese out there suffer from patella incongruence? :(:(:(

I have had knee issues off & on for yrs & went to the orthopedic Dr back in 2004 (I believe it was) for knee problems to which he told me to strengthen the area around the knee, he found no major problems. My knee has been perfectly fine for several yrs now not giving me any problems until late Dec when I felt that :confused: familiar pain while doing STS plyometrics, of course the wise thing would have been to stop then & there but I just HAD to fifnish the wo . Short of the Long I went to the Dr finally a few wks ago & she told me after looking at my x-rays & examining the knee it was patella incongruence. It was feeling better until Sat. I am very frustrated to say the least. I so miss Cathe step wo's not to mention my shock cardio that sits in the cases unused :confused:
ANy suggestions on what others may to for cardio? I am currently doing Leslie Sansone . I don't want to think I may never be able to do Cathe again......:(:(:(:(

I don't know what patella incongruence means and I've never heard of it, but when I had patellofemoral syndrome (runners knee) on both knees a year and a half ago, I found I could easily powerwalk on a treadmill, or outdoors, on both inclines and on the flat for speed, but the inclines felt better and produced no knee pain or twinges. The higher the better worked for me.

How do you feel about swimming? Can you bike? Can you do kickbox, including kicks but eliminating jumps?

Hi - I injured my knee last June while doing backwards lunges. I don't remember what my official diagnosis was, but I remember it had something to do with the patella. I went to physical therapy and the PT said my patella was a little out of alignment.

My PT helped me strengthen the muscles around the knee, focusing on the thighs, glutes and hamstrings. I have found Cathe's lower body wo's to be very helpful.

As far as cardio goes, I have found low impact kickboxing to be the best for cardio. My favorite is the 4 DS kickbox wo. I do modify it in places where I think it's too high impact for me. I recently purchased Kick Max and the low impact premix is awesome! I also bought LIC but haven't done it yet. Another one I got (took advantage of the coupons :D ) was MMA Boxing and I love it! Again, it has the cardio bursts which I need to modify, but the upper body wo's are intense.

Hang in there - I know it's tough not being able to do all those fun high impact wo's. But you may be surprised how easy it is to make your own modifications. I have noticed that my pain has gotten so much better after making these modifications, so hopefully it will for you, too! Plus, it may not hurt to see your doctor again to make sure it isn't a new injury.
Good Luck!

Sorry, I just re-read your post and realized you DID go back to the Dr. At least you know it is NOT a new injury.

Best,
Julie

How did you the lower body exercises . Squats , lunges , kneeling, leg extentions or steps. The fist thing my Doctor told was to modify modify modify.

I can do the squat 90 degrees and the kneeling I put a lot of extra padding.

What modifications did you do with the other exercises .

Thanks.

At first I was not able to kneel, and I only did squats and lunges at about 45 degrees. I only did the leg extensions while at physical therapy, and I did not do step at all for awhile. I stuck with kickboxing for aerobics and just kept it low impact.

Do you have Butts and Guts? The floor work was (and still is:D) wonderful for my knee(s). I have recently added some yoga exercises for helping with knee pain (not a video, but a book I bought on Amazon). And the foam roller is great for the iliotibial band.

Hope that helps!:)
