painting a crib

Hi all,
I have a question that I figured one of you out there would have the answer to. I have acquired a crib from a family member that is quite old. It has been repainted once already about 14 years ago. We are in the process of refinishing it (and bringing it "up to code" in terms of slat widths, etc.). My question is, have any of you repainted a baby's crib before and if so, what type of paint did you use? Do they have specific "child safe" or baby specific paints out there? I asked the person working the paint dept. at Home Depot the other night but she had just gotten out of training and was not sure of the answer to my question. We have sanded down the whole crib of the old paint already. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I know there are organizations that regulate safety of this stuff. What about checking the consumer product safety commision website? Another source would be to seek out parenting forums and ask this question there. I would really research this. I have had 3 babies and know that when they start teething they will chew on anything in sight including crib slats and the top of the crib.

Thanks for your response Amynicole!
I checked with my doctor as well as the cpsc website. Both said to use a high quality latex enamel. We decided to use a spray paint to do the crib since there are lots of turned wood spindles, etc which would make it a chore to paint with a brush. The back of the Rustoleum can said it was safe to use on children's toys and furniture. Thanks again!
