Hi All!

OK, I had never heard of P90X until I started reading the forums. Do those of you that have tried it, like it? And if so, is it harder or how does it compare to Cathe workouts? I found a website that offers a 30-day free trial of like 12 workouts, nutritional plan, etc...
Whaddayall think?:D

Hey Kim -

There are several of us doing P90X right now. It's a 13 week rotation that is more strength training than cardio, although it does have cardio as well as yoga. It's very hard core - mainly push ups and pull ups, but the results are pretty amazing. It's very unlike Cathe, and Tony is goofy - some people are really annoyed by him, others find him funny - I enjoy his weird sense of humor. I highly recommend it if you're looking for strength and flexibility gains.

i bought the dvds separately-4 upper body, plyometrics, coresynergistics, and yoga which i have not done yet. i have gotten MUCH better results in upper body than cathe. i have read that his cardio or leg work isnt as good as cathe, except for p90x plyometrics-WOW- and his upper body which has core at the end it is very different from cathe. coresynergistics is an awesome workout too.

Kim,
If you do an advanced search in this forum for P90X (in the "topic" area), you'll find a lot of posts.

The short story: P90X is the most effective upper body and core workout I've ever used, and the best overall system I've seen.

The cardio is not as intense as Cathe, and is not meant to be, in order to preserve muscle mass.

I personally found the lower body insufficient for me (my lower body seems to get mushy quickly unless I do step ups and heavier lunges and squats).

I love Tony's brand of plyo's, which are effective and doable, and arent based on 'jump as high as you can" cheerleadery moves. I only took two of the moves in Plyo X to the rebounder.

P90X is also a good way to learn about designing an effective, balance rotation, with enough recovery within and between the workouts.

I didn't follow the nutrition plan at all, but I did use my own 'recovery drink'(I didn't buy theirs, just used a soy milk based drink or a smoothie) and drank it after the weight workouts.

I just got P90X and used their free trial for a month and let me tell you, I'm HOOKED. I'm on my second month now and I'm getting VERY good results from it. I've worked out with Cathe for 5 years but I was not really getting the results I wanted. I've been kicking myself in the ass for not getting this a long time ago. I would not have burnt out on Cathe if I had gotten this a while ago. My muscles are bigger now and I'm getting the curves I want in my waist, too. His core is TOUGH but very doable. PlyoX is not bad although I'm getting a little bored with this as it's straightfoward. It really works your legs. The legs is ok. Not as tough as Cathe but I feel it's effective, too. I really think it's worth the try. Let me know if you get it. :)

Also, their recovery drink is delish. Like Kathryn I do my own nutrition plan I got from someone else. Her plan is more effective than Michi's ladder for me.

Hi,
I went on beach body website & couldn't see the option of buying the DVDs separately. I only saw the entire package offered for a free trial. How much is each DVD with shipping?
Thanks

I have just a quick question about the cost. I see on the Beachbody website that you can try the set for 30 days at no cost except for the shipping. If you do keep the set they will charge you $35.00 a month for 4 months. Is $140.00 the normal cost for this program? For some reason I thought it was more expensive, but that's not a bad price for 12 workouts. Just curious. Thanks.:D

Plus shipping and tax. Yeah, it sounds expensive, but when you really think about it, it's a pretty good deal. And it works!

P90X is the BEST deal on great workouts on the planet. It actually amazes me how inexpensive it is. I totally say go for it and purchase it in its entirety. It truly is a great investment :D !!

Not that I'm aware of. On the P90X site somewhere you can see short little clips of Tony talking about each video...but that's it I think.

Two comments....

1) There is ia "Music and cues only" audio option on the DVDs. This way you can limit your intake of Tony's goofiness. It also puts more emphasis on the music, which is awesome!

2) Although there is really only one workout focused on legs, the workout does a number on my hamstrings! I am fried for two days afterwards! I'm referring to Legs and Back, which I do "backless". Plyo X is really meant to be a cardio workout with some leg conditioning as a bonus.

When you say pull-ups, how do you do pull-ups at home if you don't have a workout center/tower etc.?

Thanks,

Michelle

When I started P90X, I didn't have a pull-up tower (I do now, though!). I started by substituting heavy 1-arm rows (alternating sides with each set) and pullovers for the pull-ups and chin-ups. Then I got the heavy B-line bands from Beachbody (and a door attachement from www.sissel-online.com --the Beachbody one is lame) and did heavy pulldowns.
