P90X

Hello~

I am really considering purchasing the P90X series...is it worth the money? Or do you feel that Cathe's workouts are better?
Could you give me an idea of what equipment is needed for these workouts?
Thanks!

Worth it...? Depends on your goals. If you are looking to gain upper body strength, tone, endurance and over all flexibility (thanks to YogaX)...then YES, P90x is worth it.

I probably disliked the P90X more than anyone here but I still say it was worth it. it just wasn't fun for me. I don't like Tony and I hated the music. Good thing both can be muted.

Equipment...dumbells, a pull-up bar (for maximum results) and bands. I say bands AND pull-up bar because you can use the bands for assisted pull-ups.

Ab RipperX is a great ab workout, also.

As for better than Cathe...I'll always prefer her style, personality, music, set, etc. over anyone else's.

However, you need variety for progress, and deviating from Cathe is not against any law.

YOu can find a lot of posts on P90X if you do a search in this forum.

Some things P90X does better (upper body work and sequencing of exercises and recovery periods, core workouts, plyo that is effective without being over-the-top cheerleader jumping, yoga and stretching) some Cathe does better (lower body, cardio--though P90X cardio is intended to be more moderate in intensity to not burn calories that would go to muscle growth).

Needed equipment:
Several sets of dumbbells (or resistance cords, they sell some good quality ones by Lifeline)

A mat for yoga and stretching

Some way to do pullups (a doorway pullup bar, a pullup station) or pulldowns (the bands with a door attachment, like the one from www.sissel-online.com which is much better than the one that BeachBody sells with their bands).

Optional but useful:
Towels...lots of towels because you will sweat!
A notebook (good idea to keep track of reps and weights)

I think that's all.

Could you elaborate on specifically what you didn't like about Tony and the music?

Thank you for your input.
