P90x prepratory Cathe rotation request

I posted this in Open Discussion, hoping it would be seen. But feel free to reply in the rotation forum if you wish.

My workouts have been all over the place for the past year--with having a home up for sale and moving, sickness, etc. I haven't followed a decent rotation the whole time. I've just fit in workouts where I could.

I got P90X for Christmas last year but haven't done it yet because I knew my life would be crazy. Now that I can commit to the 3 months, I'm not in the shape I was last year--cardio capacity or strength-wise.

Could any of you suggest a 1 month (or longer, if needed) Cathe workout rotation that will get me in good enough shape to be prepared for P90X?

I have all of Cathe's workouts with the exception of the following:
STS (But if I could do that, I wouldn't need this rotation anyway)
Supersets
Push-Pull
Pure Strength
Classics vol I
Any of the beginner/intermediate ones
I have the Lauren Brooks Kettlebell DVD. I have several yoga practices of various lengths & types. I can also run--although not a 'runner'.

Thanks,

Elsie

Elsie,

I would try the Gym Styles or 4DS for strength. Yoga X is 90 minutes. I don't know what yoga you have but IMO, mostly anything is better than Yoga X. I have so many more enjoyable yoga practices. Tony's cardio is easier than Cathe's so the cardio shouldn't be a problem. If you can do any of the IMAXes, Plyo X shouldn't be a problem. As far as kickboxing, any of Cathe's is fine. I would probably go with KPC or 4DS Kickbox. If you have Tracey Staehle's Cardio Sweatfest, I find it somewhat similar.

Core Synergistics is totally unlike any other workout that I had done up until I did P90X. The chaturanga run always killed me every time.

If you feel you're not quite up to the Classic Rotation, you could always do the Lean Rotation to see how you feel.

For the strength, I went heavy (8-10 reps) but you can choose to go for endurance (12-15 reps).

Do you have a pull-up bar? If you don't and have never done pullups or chinups before, you should probably get the bands to assist you. Tony shows a modifier who uses just the bands. Many people use the Iron Woody bands. If you do a search here or over at videofitness, you will find loads of threads about them. If you want to try using the bar, I would start out with negatives first. Take a chair or stepstool to lift you up to the bar and then slowly lower yourself down.

Get ready for loads and loads of pushups (almost every conceivable kind). You might not be able to do them all at first (by the end of my first rotation, I did 4 clapping pushups which I never did before in my life) but you'll be amazed what you can accomplish in three months. GS Chest & Triceps should help you as far as pushups go. I think Low Impact Circuit and Drill Max also have a few different types of pushups.

Good luck! As Tony says, "do your best and forget the rest".
