P90X/Ebay scam

Hi all,

I was very enthusiastic about the P90X program after reading about it on the forums here and I thought it could make a good switch after doing STS (to plan ahead a bit!!). Or to do it first (in case STS was delayed....God forbid).

So a few days ago I ordered the P90X dvds from Ebay.

Now I've just got an email that the seller is under investigation for scamming on Ebay. Don't know if I can recover the money from Paypal.....or kiss it goodbye.

Boo hoo

Turn in a claim to PayPal. It should be covered.
Did you pay with a credit card?

If PayPal doesn't come through for you, file a claim with your cc company.

Hi Cynthia,

Thanks for your suggestions. Getting scammed is new to me!
I'll definitely contact Paypal about my options, otherwise the creditcard co.

cheers Rosemarie

I got scammed once on eBay with a Turbo Jam order... way too good to be true.

PayPal didn't end up covering me at all (I forget why, maybe not enough money lost?), but my credit card did, in full, thankfully!

Big lesson learned for me was to check the sellers history. the one I ordered from had only one other sale.

It just seems so easy for people to get away with it, though, doesn't it? What really happens to them? I'm sure they covered themselves with false addresses/etc.

Sorry to hear that. I was once received fake Cathe DVDs on Ebay. The thing is Ebay is trying to protect Ebay not its users. They will not turn in criminals to the police. They will kick them off of Ebay and maybe collect the funds they stole. But the criminals turn around and start new accounts. Ebay does next to nothing insisting the community can police itself. that's great and all, but Ebay won't do much about it when the community does catch a scammer. It's pointless. I'm done with Ebay. It was a good idea, but it really became too big to manage.

Surprised...

If you paid through PayPal, you may not be covered if the money was deducted directly from your bank account (check your payment method). You may be able to recover it from your credit card company, however, if that is the payment method you used.

However, if it was a PayPal verified seller, they should have checked him or her out. (I don't usually buy through PayPal from non-verified sellers.)

Can you turn in a complaint to Safe Harbor at eBay? They've been castigated by the media a lot recently for their fraud problems. It's hurt their business.

Whenever I buy from eBay, I always check out the seller's feedback (lots of transactions + mostly positive comments), and also look at where they're located, and what their shipping policies are.

Good luck and I'm sorry this happened to you!

Thanks for the reactions. I've contacted Paypal to get the ball rolling.

The seller had lot's of transactions and good feedback so I felt OK about it.

We'll see.

cheers Rosemarie

Ebay/PayPal recently changed their buyer protection policy. All purchases made using PayPal are covered.

Back in the beginning, PayPal had a $25 deductible for claims. They eliminated that and covered qualified sellers with two selling tiers $200 or $2000 coverage. Now, they cover 100%.
I still use my cc for back up coverage;)

I've bought on ebay hundreds of times and twice I was scammed. both times it wasn't alot but it was very upsetting. Both times I claimed with paypal and never got the money back. Paypal claimed they couldn't get it back cause the scammer took the money out of their account.
I hope they change the policies. The last scammer made off with ALOT of peoples money by looking at their most recent feedback. Up till then they had near perfect feedback for years and even had an internet online store. I guess they decided to close shop and rip off the rest of their customers in the process.
I still buy on ebay. But I'm VERY cautious who I buy from. I tend to go for more smaller size sellers with tons of good feedback. I read thru pages of feedback before buying from a seller. sometimes I ask them a question first just to see how they respond and how fast too. By far I've had more of a possitive experience on ebay but those two definetly soured it a bit. one was only $20 but still :(

That stinks Jess.
I purchased a Cathe bootleg and never filed a claim. PayPal makes you jump through hoops to prove something is fake. I paid less than $20 and considered it a cheap lesson.

I've had to file a few claims and always got my money back.
Instead of sifting through pages of feedback, I use this site. It brings up all the neutral and negative feedback. It gives me a picture of any bad selling patterns

I still use my credit card though. That is the best protection.
