Overweight ectomorph?

Me too. Since too much cardio is not recommended for ectomorphs because it prevents muscle development, I wonder what would be recommended for an ectomorph who needs to needs to loose weight.
 
Hi Robin! Sure is a "bumpy" trail over here ;-)!

There really is no exact formula. When you have a trouble area, there is a tendency to only want to focus on that one area but unfortunately you cannot spot reduce. What you can do is shock your system to give it a good jolt and jump start. Stimulate your metabolism. To do this, do one interval workout per week, two high intensity cardio workouts per week(one for 30 minutes and one for 45 minutes), and one (or two but its optional)cardio workouts per week. Do this for a month along with MIS one day and Power Hour a few days later. Include an additional ab workout one day a week. Try a 12 minute ab workout that combines plank work with traditional ab work (and focus hard on this ab workout). Remember that you also must adopt a CLEAN food plan (you have to committ to this clean eating or you will very much hinder your progress/results).

After a month of this see where you are with your results and add or take away workouts where needed. I can help you again when you get that far. Good Luck!
 
Hi Robin! Just you wait, the weights are coming hard and plenty after this month :)! This was just to jump start you. The interval workout, plus the high intensity ones are there to develop explosive strength and power and rev your engine to lose those stubborn 20 pounds. But yes, after that I think more weights are in order Arnold :)! But lets see what happens after this month. Remember CLEAN EATING!!!
 
Wow, Robin that was AWESOME! Very worth all the bumps. Does this sound like fodder for our next ectochick check????? I'm going to start a new program next week, was going to do S & H, but now I'm reconsidering.:-jumpy

LOL, Julie. I know, I had this whole 18 week, almost all wt. thing worked out. No more. Lots of cardio!!!! Can't wait to see what next month brings. Maybe S&H then, huh???

I'm thinking (Cathe, ignore my ramblings) that we as ectos can't depend too much on the wt. work to help shed body fat. We don't build muscle fast enough to help burn fat as much as others. So we depend mostly on cardio and THEN build mass.

Just a theory.

Robin - I swear I enjoy reading your posts! They just make me giggle! You are so wonderful! It's really great having you around!

Julie - I was beginning to doubt my routine too but I think I'm going to leave it as is, granted I just extended my week from 7 days to 8, so that I could get all of my workouts in comfortably! :) Yes, I'm working on warped time now but as long as I write everything down on paper and post it up I'll be okay. I was also thinking the other night that I should go from 3 to 4 cardio sessions per 8 day week! ;-)

Hi Julie and Robin! Sorry to eavesdrop,ha! Yes, ectomorphs typically do have a harder time putting on muscle and therefore I typically would recommend heavier weight programs. However, since Robin said that she also wanted to lose 20 pounds I had her do a combo of weights plus explosive cardio to shock her metabolism. This in combo with CLEAN EATING (which I can't emphasize enough) should alert the body that somethings going on here ;-). After that the heavier weights will come into play :)
