Overhead Tricep Extensions

Cruncholi

Cathlete
I have a question about overhead tricep extensions. I am talking about the move where you sit upright and hold one dumbell in both hands, raise your arms above your head, and bend your elbows lowering the dumbell and then push it back up.

Usually Cathe holds the dumbell on the "handle" part in between the two heads of the dumbell. This seems to make my elbows pop and crack and hurt. I am wondering if it is okay to put one dumbell head in each hand and then do the same move. This seems to separate the arms a little bit more, resulting in less of an angle for the forearms/elbows. It is less painful for me this way, but I don't know if I am getting the same benefits?

I do it that way all the time. It feels more natural to me, I think because I have wider shoulders.

It's fine to do what you are describing. The hand position makes it more comfortable, and the work in the triceps is unchanged.
