Outer Banks

The other thread got me thinking. We are planning a trip next summer to rent a house there, but I am not sure where to rent from. When you do a search on the internet, there are sooo many to choose from.

We will have 3 families (7 kids--ages 2-14). We would like to be near the beach, but not ON the beach (too expensive, I think). Any suggestions on a realtor or agency?

Thanks!
Jenn

I liked prudential/ resort realty. Very nice and you don't have to pay for early check in.
Just make sure where you stay has a direct beach access. You could be walking a 1/4 mile to beach otherwise
On the beach house in summer is high at least 5 grand.
I always liked it down at the sea dunes in kitty hawk. It has a pool and is across from the beach, but there is nothing on the beach.

There are alot of homes . Try to find something on the beach road
Try this link. It has alot of info.
I hated Sun realty. They were rude and nasty in the office.
Add sales tax and realator fees and security dep to the price.
Always do the cancelation insurance.
You can also do 3 condos in the same place then you will have a pool.
Have fun.

We went there for Spring Break. I loved it! I went with my parents, sisters and their family and my family (8 adults, 6 kids ages 4 months - 10 years). We were right on the beach, which was really convenient. Here is a link to the house we had and the realtor used. If you have any questions about it, I'd be happy to help.

We just rented a cottage for the last week of August. We always use Southern Shores Realty (I think its southernshoresrealty.com)and have always been happy with where we stay. We got a 4BR house with an inground pool for about $1,000 that sleeps 12. The rates really drop after Labor Day.

My dad is moving down to Emerald Isle in July. I have family down there as well. My cousin Cathy works for Bluewater Realty and they do rentals as well. http://www.bluewatergmac.com/. I love about anywhere on the Banks. Emerald Isle is a little quieter, but there is still a lot to do. Enjoy your trip!

We have always used Sun Realty with no issues.
I agree with the thought to get the insurance..you just never know.

Personally we enjoy Whalehead Beach on Corolla, great area, close to the Food Lion and Currituck, as well as some activities. Very family friendly, and some really great houses.
We have always gotten Oceanside homes, and we love having a private pool. Be sure to check on the map where the beach access is located to minimize any walking, and read carefully. Some descriptions will say that a home is only "500 yds to the beach", but bear in mind that is a good distance.

One year we stayed in Ocean Sands, but it was noisy and kinda crowded.

Good luck.

We just got back recently from a week in Southern Shores. This (and Duck) have become my all time favorite Outer Banks spot. We've stayed in Nags Head before as well as Corolla. Corolla is a bit too destitute for us, and Nags Head is a little too "busy"...Southern Shores/Duck has a perfect combination of quiet and shopping/dining/entertainment. And it's right in the middle of Corolla and Nags Head so it's easy to get anywhere you may want to go in the Outer Banks.

OK...enough of the sales pitch :D :D . The house we just recently rented was through Carolina Designs and we really loved the house. They seem to have some of the better rates...and they have an extra week (the first week of June) that is considered "off season"...which means less $$$$.

A couple other rental agencies are Seaside Vacations and Prudential Resort Realty. Hope that helps :D.

Here is my story with sun realty.
We got there about noon and had early check in.
I asked her which unit we were in so we could get groc and scope it out to save the day.
She said :I can't tell you....
I said why?
You might go park a boat there . I told her :Do i look like i have a boat parked out there.I just want to not waste a day..and i did pay an extra 65 to check in early.
Well we got back at 5 till 1. I told the lady at that point she had me p'd off. So i guess we have to wait 5 more min. She said i guess you will and walked away from me.I almost went over the desk at her.
I sent a letter to her boss and was offered no realtor fees for the next year with apologies. After all my money makes them money. There are plenty of realators down there.
I have been going there for 10 years and rented off resort/ now prudential realty. Always nice . Never paid for early check in . If condo ready gave us the keys.
We spend good money down there and always leave the place cleaner than when we got there.
DH usually does the windows(clean freak). and i think cust deserve more respect.
Anyways, i think she was repromanded, but i stay away from them.
Her boss said new policies were being in effect now.
This was my experience with them.
She is lucky i wasn't pms'ing.
But the codo was fine anyways.
