Out of work

Hello everyone,

Unfortunately, I think I will have to forgo the new videos this year as I have been told that I could be made redundant. Bummer!

I hate being out of work at this time of the year, when money is king. I will hopefully be able to find something soon, but so far no luck as there are just too many people vying for the same jobs.

Can anyone offer some good advice for me? I feel like going off travelling but I don't have the money for that.

Yen

Hi Yen

That is dreadful, I know you were planning to get certified as an aerobic instructor but losing your major source of income this quickly can be a pain.I always hate when employers wait until this time of year to give out such news. I mean they know Christmas is coming and all that that entails financially.

The first thing to do is get your cv up to date and begin thinking about what you want to do. Also are there any rumours circulating about what is happening with the company and were likely redundancies will occur and how soon. How well do you get on with your HR department as they are a good place to start to talk about what to do next and get some general advice.

I will speak to my sister and get her find out somethings you can do. Also how long have you been with the company and is it doing bably or just restructuring or both.

Will add more later.Babs

LAST EDITED ON Oct-28-02 AT 12:27PM (Est)[p]Hello Barbara,

The company has been going for about 2 years I think. It wasn't doing too badly until September 11th, then the clients just dropped off as we depend mainly on the banks to give us contracts - we are a consultancy company.

To be honest, I am not sad about leaving the company. I am just pissed off about the timing and the loss of income.

Did I say that I would like to train as a personal trainer? I don't think that I could do that now.

Hi Yen! I think I read that you worked in London. I walked out on a job fours years back when I lived in London (hated my boss) and it was tough going for 3 months. I temped for a while and even though the thought of temping puts a lot of people off, it can bring in some money and keeps you occupied till something more suitable comes along. I'm not sure what your area of expertise is, but have you considered working for the voluntary sector for a while? Its a sector that a lot of professionals ignore because of the money factor, but the job satisfaction is huge. After working for PR firms and hating all the bitchiness etc., I went into the voluntary sector and loved it. I really hope that you find something soon. Best of luck!

Hi Yen,

I am sorry to hear about your job situation, its really bad luck and at this time of the year too. Have you had any more ideas as to what you might do ? Let us know. January can sometimes be quite a good month for employment positions, once Christmas is out of the way.

Take Care

Hello Anna,

I'll just keep looking for work in the same business that I have been in for a year or so.

Have you bought your weights? And if so, did you choose the set in Argos?

Yen

Hi Yen,

I did indeed look at the weights in Argos - I already own the lighter dumbell set, but am seriously thinking about investing in the heavier dumbell set to complement the lighter weights ? they are not a bad price, are they ?

Anna

Anna,

They are fab! For the price and weight set. You will definitely be using most of the weight plates in the 50kg set.

I read your post about being stuck and I have responded to it.

I know I can help you with losing weight using Cathe tapes and the weight set. If you re-read your 'Where am I going wrong???????? and email me direct with the answers, I will see what I can do.

I have lost weight myself, but very slowly because I have not been good with the dieting.

Email me at [email protected]

Look forward to hearing from you.

Yen
