Oh, Sara, I so hope your relative in Crest is safe and that you get word soon. Crest was the closest area hit to us here in South Alpine/Jamul and it was hit bad ... we stood in our living room Monday night watching the flames and hearing the explosions of the propane tanks... many, many homes were burned there and as of yesterday they were having to boil their water to disinfect it as it got contaminated...
All is well there now, though, as I look across the canyon...the sky is clear and the air is moist...my prayers are with you...

Lorrayne, it sounds like you live very close to where I used to live in UTC, near the Mormon Temple. How scary that the fire came to close to you guys! Like so many others, I've been frantically phoning my SD friends and watching for news of my beloved San Diego. I'm glad to hear that you are safe.

This morning I heard that the first firefighter killed in the San Diego fires was from my hometown of Novato. How sad that our hero had to come from such a tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, as well as with all of my Southern Californian buddies. Take care of yourselves, and don't exercise outside, okay?

Thank you so much for the information. I actually didn't know that Crest was burned so badly. And I didn't know if Crest was a city/neighborhood...? I'm not too familiar with the area. The person we're concerned about is my DB's grandmother - thankfully, we know she's fine, but we haven't heard anything since she evacuated. I am sure that her house is gone since the homes across the street from her were on fire by the time she was leaving, but that's just speculation. It is such a tragedy and the San Diego area such a gorgeous place.

Sara - I believe the police are letting those who evacuated back into Crest now...I hope you DB's grandmother didn't lose her home as so many in Crest did...and so many, many here in San Diego county...it's very sad, but the recovery process is beginning and everyone is helping each other...the community has really come together over this tragedy.

All is well here now...the fires are under control, thanks to a miracle change in the weather...what a week!!
