OT: REALLY stupid question

Okay, so how do you who wear high heels keep them on your feet?! I usually wear clogs or 2 inch heels, but I got a really cute pair of 3 1/2 inch heels -- and they slip off when I walk. I even got some gel strips to put in the heel, but that doesn't seem to keep them on. Is there a trick to how to walk, am I supposed to just buy heels a half size smaller? I've been wearing hose with them, and that doesn't help the slipping, I'm sure. I recently bought a few dresses (I mostly wear pant suits to work), and I'd really love to wear higher heels with these. So, help! [I told you it was a really stupid question.....]

Sounds like they're a little big. Different shoe makers sometimes have different sizing. I normally wear a 6 1/2, but when I get Nine West heels, they're always a bit bigger. That said, I still buy them in 6 1/2 because I had bunion surgery on both feet and am paranoid about wearing shoes that are too small.

With the Nine Wests, I get the gel inserts that go just under the ball of your feet and they help a little. I don't think the strips at the back will help, because your feet are going to slide forward in a higher heel.

If it's cold, then they seem to slip a little more than when it's warm too. Plus, with such a high heel, your feet will probably swell a little depending on how much you're on your feet.

Be careful in those babies! If you're normally a clogs wearer, 3 1/2 inches might be dangerous territory. :)

Thanks, Donna, for the response. The 'ball of foot' inserts might just do the trick.

Yeah, I know the shoes are dangerous territory, and pretty uncharacteristic of my style. What WAS I thinking.....

If the shoes are coming off when you're walking, they're either the wrong size or just not a good fit for your foot. Unfortunately, this is true of many high heels and particularly sandals. I have never had luck buying such shoes online because the fit is always questionable (meaning they just aren't all manufactured the same and a lot of the fit depends on the style). I have to try in the store.

Also... if you bought them at a discounter (i.e., TJ Maxx or one of those), it may be that the shoe is irregular and that's how it ended up there at such a "great" price. :) I have found the hard way that it's better to pay dept store or specialty store prices for high heels and work shoes, otherwise they just kill my feet.

Good luck!

Ok, as a fan of 3-4" heels, I have a couple of questions for you. Where are they slipping? In the heels or are they open toed and your toes are sliding out the front. For sliding out the front, you need the gel pads for the balls of your feet. Or a bigger size. If they're slipping in the heels, they are prob too long or too wide in the heels. Too wide you may be able to fix with a gel strap in the back of the heel. Too long and you need new shoes. I have big feet (size 10) and sometimes to get pointy toed heels to work I need to go up a size or my toes get squished, but then they are too big in the heels. Bare feet will slip less than stocking feet bc the shoes will stick to your skin. I find bare feet in heels kinda uncomfortable bc it makes my feet sweaty. But I do it anyway, esp in the summer. It is prob just the fit of the particular shoe you're wearing, it might not be the right fit your foot. I understand the disappointment of a cute shoe that doesn't fit, trust me. Also, when you walk, put the heel down 1st and most of the weight on your heel; unless you're walking on grass (you'll sink) or thick carpet (you'll tangle), then walk with more of your weight on the ball of your foot like you're tiptoeing. It my sound silly, but practice!!! Wider heels are also more stable than narrow. Or try a pair of high wedges. I hope at least some of this helps. If not and they're a 10 send them my way!!:) 100 pairs and counting - I could always use another one!

Thanks for the additional comments. I'm definately coming to the conclusion that they are just too big -- there's a gap between my heel and the shoe. I am going to try the pads in the ball as well as the heel -- I'll have pads everywhere! But, I really do think I just chose a shoe that doesn't fit well. It was online, and I was too lazy to send them back.....next time I'll get my shoes at a store. Thanks for the walking tips.
