OT: Pumpkin Seeds

LisaMarie

Cathlete
I have two medium sized pumpkins that I'd like to be able to use so that they don't go to waste. I was thinking about using the seeds. Does anyone know a easy/good way to prepare them?

Thanks!

toasted!!!!! clean them, dry them, put a little oil/butter on them, toss some salt on there, send them (laid out in one layer on a sheet) into a 350 oven until they're slightly browned. move them around a bit in the middle of the heating. depending on the pumpkin/seeds, 8-15 minutes total.

YUM!!!!

Hi Lisa!

It takes a long time to get the seeds out, but it is well worth it in the end. What I do is I toss mine in a little bit of olive oil and then sprinkle some salt on them and then toast them in the oven for 5 minutes or so (around 400 degrees I think). They cook pretty fast. I'm interested to see if anyone else has some fun recipes they do with them :)

I've dried a lot of pumpkin seeds this year, probably about 15 pumpkins! I've done them different ways. One new way for me this year is to boil the seeds for 10 minutes before baking them. This makes them not quite so course when they're done. It's more trouble to do but I think it's worth it. I also have just cleaned them and washed them, then spread them on a cookie sheet and sprinkle with a favorite seasoning and cook at 250 for 40 min or until golden. I've used a mesquite sprinkle, cajun, ground chili, etc. You should stir and sprinkle lightly every 10 minutes while they are drying to get a good seasoning. If you just sprinkle once a lot of the stuff tends to fall off.
