I have been thinking about rhinoplasty for a few years now. My nose its not huge, but I I have always self conscious about it. So I have decided this year is the time to do it. Is there anyone who have had a nose job in these forums? Could you tell me about recovery time, how long before you could exercise again, painful. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Melissa

I had a rhinoplasty in 2000 when my DD was one day shy of being 1 month old. :) The recovery was a breeze. The 2nd day post-op my DH returned to work and I took care of my DD. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. I took one prescription pain pill and that was it.

I am trying to remember how long I was told no exercise. I have that information here... somewhere. I'll try to find it. I can email you before and after pics... I even have pics during my recovery. I do remember that when I went for my 6 week post-partum check up (11 days after my surgery) I had slight bruising that make-up concealed.

That would be great. It my just take off the anxiety of doing it. I made an appointment with the plastic surgeon for the 26th of this month, and I want to be prepared with questions. My email addy is

Hey Melissa,

No problem. I will get the information to you this weekend. Really research your surgeon. Very, very important.

Hi Melissa,

I got my surgery about 3 years ago now and I have not regretted it for one second. It is something that I had wanted to do for about 16 years and finally decided that since my husband and I were planning on starting a family soon that if I didn't do it now I never would.

Yes, it is painful -- but I guess because I wanted it so badly it didn't seem all that bad to me. The first two days were the worst of the pain and after that I stopped taking the painkillers because I didn't feel that I needed them anymore. I took two weeks off work and sat around and watched tons of movies.

After that two weeks when I when back to work the brusing was pretty much gone, but it was still pretty tough to smile.

I didn't have any trouble resuming exercise again (I think it was about 4 weeks later), but when I started back I started with the treadmill and worked my way back slowly.

It is a tough decsion to make with lots of pros and cons to weigh.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I had my nose done when I was 25 (42 now). It was great for my self-confidence. I used to be very self-conscience when I knew someone was looking at me from the side.

I didn't really work out back then so I can't help you there, but, I did go out in public one week later and there was very little bruising left.

BTW it does take quite some time before the swelling goes down completely. As much as a year. Mine took about a full six months before it was as good as it was going to be. But, that was only my critical eye that could see the swelling. No one else noticed. I was sooooo happy with results. Still am!!!

Melissa-
I had the bridge of my nose reduced and straightened over 20 years ago and my experience was great. Get a good surgeon who knows what they're doing and you shouldn't have any problem. It was an outpatient procedure, took no longer than a dental appointment, and I didn't swell or anything. Had to wear a bandage for about a week but I just relaxed and took some time off. The day I had the bandages taken off I felt like a new woman! :7

Thanks for all your replies. I have research surgeons, and the one I am going to was very highly recommended. A pattern I did notice in all your replies, is that all of you were young when you had it done, so recovery time was faster. Being that I am older (50), I wonder if that would make a lot of difference.
