OT - Food allergies? Stuffy nose?

Wondering if anybody suffers from this or could shed some light on it for me.

I have hayfever and allergies during the spring and fall. I never seem to get rid of the stuffy nose. That's the only symptom that doesn't go away. I have to put Vick's cream under my nose at night so that I can breathe good.

I'm beginning to wonder if I have a food allergy or something that I'm not aware of that may be causing this?

Any ideas and/or help out there???

Thank you in advance,
Marcia. :)

If you have hayfever and allergies, you might be sensitive to something other than pollens as well. I wouldn't guess a food allergy, as that would probably affect the digestive tract as well (though certain foods, like breads, are more mucus producing, so you might want to cut down on grains and see if that helps).

A more likely culprit is dust mites. Their'waste' can be the cause of many allergy symptoms, and of morning-stuffed-noses.

If you look up 'dust mite allergy'on the net, you can find quite a few solutions to this (dust mite reducing mattress and pillow covers, sprays that deactivate the allergen).

Sounds just like me and my history. I went to an allergist and had all the testing. I have many allergies but one biggie is fowl. Chichen, turkey, duck, hens, anything related to fowl.....stock, etc. The reaction I has is sneezing, stuffy nose etc. The more allergins I am exposed to the worse the reaction. I suggest you get tested. my insurance BCBS paid for everything. I am almost never sick with "hayfever" anymore. Seems my diet was making me sick. Oh, they will make a personalized syrum [sp?] to inject and build up immunity if you wish. I chose not to go that route as i think I am better off not eating fowl anyway. Those poor animals are raised under horrible conditions. But, they do tatse pretty good :p

I agree with Kathryn on the dust mites. I had problems with waking up with a stuffy nose and a headache, as well as moderate seasonal allergies. I invested in mite-proof mattress covers, pillows, and other bedding items, neutralizing spray, etc., and the difference was amazing. I no longer start the day "behind" on the allergy problem. For the seasonal allergies, I use a prescription nasal spray called Rhinocort that works great. I live in the Midwest and use it from April through November. I find I don't need it during the winter months. I also purchased an Austin room air purifier for the bedroom, and it worked so well I got another one, as well as a Whirlpool Whispure (which I like better), for other parts of the house. Most of the stuff I got was from National Allergy Supply online.

You might also want to go to a ear, nose throat doc. I found I have a deviated septum (most everybody does) but mine was compounded and to make a long story short, I could have surgery or not. so I went the "or not" route. He was unable to see all the way into my sinus, so he numbed me and when that took effect, I could breathe like I haven't in a long time. So I pretty much have to live with it.
