OT: Any Firefly/Serenity fans?

My SO returned home last week, bringing with him DVDs of the entire "Firefly" series. Just finished watching the last episode last night--I'm totally hooked and can't wait until the movie comes out!! Anyone else out there addicted to this show? :)

I have been on the fence about this dvd set for a long time. Everytime I go to Best Buy - I pick them up and carry them around for a while - but never buy. The Best Buy guy told me they were good so now I have a second! Next time I go, I will buy them!

Thanks - Lisa

Yes, it is a great show! The dvd is well worth it. I loved the "extras" - made me appreciate all the work they did to make the show. I'm really looking forward to the movie too. Wish they could do more shows!

I can't believe how hooked I am on the show--and my BF's mother is too! Lol. I hate that the last episode left so many things hanging (avoiding spoilers here on purpose--got to "infect" other people with the Firefly bug without ruining the plot!). Anyhow, I'm dying to see the movie, too, and who knows--maybe they will restart the tv show if the movie is successful enough.

BTW, I think "Mal" is hot--he has a great butt!! }(

Mal is so hot! :D

But Joss Whedon has said he is not interested in reviving the series 'cause the chemistry and energy would be lost. However, if I remember correctly his deal was for three Serenity movies so there is (hopefully) more to come.

Serenity is a new movie by Joss Whedon, the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. It's based on a TV series that he wrote called Firefly, which aired on Fox TV briefly before they cancelled the series. However, the series was also put out on DVD, and it has gained a pretty sizeable following of fans due to word of mouth.

The story takes place 500 years in the future and is sort of a Western in space, but if you watch Buffy or Angel at all, it has the character development and humor that are typical in those shows, from what I've heard--plus lots of action. I haven't liked a movie this much since the original Star Wars. One of the reviews I read said the movie is like Star Trek and its spinoffs if the characters had been on coffee and cigarettes (and bourbon) instead of Valium. Actually, here's the link to that review--it gives you a good flavor of the movie:

Have to also add the following review: :)

If you have the DVDs of the original "Firefly" series, then by all means watch the series first (or at least the first episode on the DVDs, which is the 2-hour pilot for the show). It makes it more interesting because you have 14 episodes of back story and you really get to know the characters, which is what makes it such a great series--the writing and the chemistry of the cast are both topnotch. BUT you don't have to watch the series to like the movie--plus, if you like the movie, you can always go get the Firefly DVDs!

Excellent! Thank you for the overview...it sounds like something I would definitely like! Thanks again! :)

Yes thank you! I will be looking into picking up this series and then go see the movie. I called my son and he too said I would Love it! Thanks for the info!

Terri

Yay! More potential Browncoats (Firefly/Serenity fans). Joss Whedon has made it clear that the chance of additional movies depends heavily on how Serenity does at the box office. Keep your fingers crossed that it kicks behind!
