Organic Skincare?

Does anyone use organic skincare products? If so, what do you use and how do they work? My skin is dry and now that winter is coming I don't think my current products will provide enough moisture.

I use Dr. Hauschka products, I am not sure that it is organic, but it is holistic skin care. I have used it for many years and I really like it, I have VERY dry skin! You can get a trial kit for $ 20 or $ 25 to see if it works for you. I really like the "Rhythmic Conditioner", it smells good, and works really well for my extremely dry skin, but it is pretty expensive. You can get more info on www.drhauschka.com.

Otherwise, you may want to check out Weleda products http://usa.weleda.com/index.aspx, my friend uses it and she swears by it.

Another good one that is recommended by my naturopathic doctor is Jason. I think I am going to try it once I am finished with my products. The Ester C products smell really good and they are 70 % organic. Less expensive than Hauschka! http://www.jasoncosmetics.com/. I have tried the Ester C One Minute Facial and REALLY liked it!

Otherwise, if you want to go more "commercial" or more readily available you may want to check out Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins.

Hope this helps!

I use orgnanic skin care from Pratima Skincare in Manhattan (www.pratimaskincare.com). Pratima is a naturopathic/Ayurvedic doctor who makes all of her own oils and skincare products. I live in Kansas, but order her products through the mail because they are the best I have found. They also compare in price with anything I can find in a healthfood store.

I used to use Aubrey skincare products (sold in health food stores), but I have sensitive skin, and in the long run, I realized these products weren't doing anything for me except wasting my money. In fact, I think they may have been aggravating my problems because some of the products contained alcohol. Pratima's products, though, are mild and worth it, and she will tailor make a program that suits your individual skin needs. You can take an on-line quiz on her website to see what kind of skin you have according to the Indian understanding (Vata, Pitta, Kapha, or some combination of two or three). Pratima works on balancing whatever is out of balance and causing the problem. I'd highly recommend her products!

Be careful about organic claims on body care products. I've researched some of these product lines, and their claims are bogus. Body products are not governed by the stricter standards of the Organic Foods Act which apply to produce and food stuff. Take a look at Jason cosmetics or Nature's Gate, for example, and you'll see a lot of methyl and poly parabens. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Hope this helps.

I am not sure where you see that Jasons's uses any parabens in their products now(methyl, poly or otherwise)? None of the body care products I have lists it as an ingredient. Which is the reason that I started buying them to begin with.

I did a little research and found that Jason in fact had used parabens in the past until 2004/2005 but started phasing it out at that time. I guess your research was from before that time.

Thanks for the link to Pratima Skincare, it has good information.

I don't think there is such a thing as "organic" skincare. It's more of a marketing ploy than anything else. It is virtually impossible to make a 100% organic product that is shelf stable. I usually just try to find products that use mostly natural ingredients. I'm using Ilike by szep elet right now. Some of the products are more natural than others but overall I am happy with them. I buy their products from Medispastore.com. They're quite pricey so I usually just buy when they're 60% off on clearance.
